    Post Op Blues?

Mellytoon.... I cried too. I thought what the heck did I do to myself. I second guessed and I still second guess myself. My WHOLE problem was that I love to bake.......and I loved to eat the baked goods. Not just one cookie but 6. Not just one slice of pie but a huge slice of pie and ice cream and I baked everything at least a couple times a week. And if I didn't bake it myself I ordered a cake from the lady who did my wedding cake and would eat that. I am a picky eater, I never ate a McDonald's or Burger King burger because I don't like anything mixed. I have never had soup or chili or salad, nothing like that. The only thing I liked was meat and potatoes don't like veggies but I can eat fruit. So my problem was the sweets. So I kept thinking to myself, you should have just quit baking and I actually did that on May 31st and lost nearly 60 pounds before surgery. I am depressed and disgusted with myself that I didn't do it on my own. The liquid phase is quite hard for me because I don't like broth either so I am stuck with protein shakes which are getting sickening. I am sure it will get better it's just going to take time. And I am hoping once the weight is off I can keep it off. Best of luck to you! I hope things gets better soon.
  2. My husband never left my side he stayed with me both nights at the hospital too. It was just nice having him there. His work have him time off (sick leave) for me having surgery and was not required to take FMLA. I wouldn't say I had to have him there but it was nice when I woke up to have him there and not have to wait for anything. I had surgery on the 25th he just went back to work last night and I have to go back on Monday. It's been nice spending time with him!

    What to expect

Well this is probably not the answer you are looking for but to be absolutely honest everyone is soooooo very different. Some people seem to just sail right through with little to no problems, some have minimal problems and others like myself experienced a few problems post op. None of this is meant to scare you but I wish I would have known. I was allergic to the pain med they gave me I the hospital, I had severe itching and they had to give me benedryl. With all of the IV antibiotics they gave me I developed a yeast infection. That wasn't fun either. I did not experience the gas pains, I did not have a drain, once they discontinued the pain pump it was difficult to take my meds crushed up. Yucky! The liquid pain med they have me gave me migraines and all I could take to help was children's chewable Tylenol. I had trouble getting down enough fluids and protein and still struggle from time to time. I had my surgery (sleeve) on August 25th. Things are getting better day by day some days being better than others. Oh BTW four days after surgery I weighed myself and I had gained 6 pounds, not being warned about the IV fluid weight I was devastated. I vowed to stay off the scale. Bowel movements can be tricky and I usually only go once a week now. (Tmi). On the upside, it's over and I am trudging forward. I have to go back to work on Monday. I am still very very tired. So all in all all you can do is hope for the best. I have also read that some people have nausea and a stomach cramping when drinking their protein shakes or eater but I never had that. I am back at the YMCA walking 4 miles a day. Not quite where I used to be before surgery but day by day I am hoping to get there! Good luck on your journey!

    Sense of smell got stronger!

Yes my sense of smell has increased dramatically! I went outside and keep thinking....what are all of those smells? I was walking and on the sidewalk someone had dropped candy corn it was smashed and melting and had a ton of ants on it and I could smell it. Horribly gross!

    NSV shout outs

Bob, I am also from Bay City, I was wondering if you would mind sharing your surgeons name? I had mine done in Saginaw.
  7. Thinkingthinner1109

    Let's talk about NSAIDs

Mojos, does your doctor allow you to take pills after the sleeve? My doctor makes me crush everything and gave me a liquid pain med. I was just curious.
  8. Hoping all is well! Thinking of you!

August post op sleevers: Check in

I was sleeved on August 25th. Things have gotten much better as I had a rough time immediately post op. I am just real weak some days and I do have a pain still from one incision, if I wear the binder they gave me it is much better. Cannot wait to hit Onderland I have 22 more pounds to go. We have a trip planned for Vegas on my birthday in December and I am hoping to get i to an outfit I bought as my inspiration outfit to wear to the TERRY FATOR show. I would be happy to be in a regular old large size. Lol. Today I had a scrambled egg and that filled me up. Still struggling a little to get in my fluids but doing ok on my protein. . BTW this thread is a great idea!

    Fluids

I am not suppose to have any kind of juices because of the natural sugars. I can drink plain water while I am working out or I add drops of flavor. I do know that G2 is permitted for me I just don't drink it right now.

Im new and have so many questions.....

I talked to my nutritionist yesterday about the puréed stage, I had told her prior to my surgery I knew I would not be able to do it. It's just gross and I have never in my 52 years on this planet ever eaten anything mixed. I just don't like the texture. So she said I could have the eggs, yogurt continue the protein shakes, sf pudding, sf jello, I should be able to do oatmeal. I will make it. She wanted me to wait until Monday to try eggs, but since being on liquids for 3 weeks I tried a scrambled egg and didn't have a problem with it. Oh and she said to try mashed potatoes just have to add ûnflavored protein to most of those things because they don't have enough in it. So I will do what I can until I can have fish, chicken etc. I am not a vegetable fan so she said I could do the fruit but have to blend unflavored protein into those also.
  12. I have good days and bad days. I am 10 days pre op today. I went to the YMCA this morning and walked two miles. Felt like I walked ten. We ran and did some errands and I could seriously take a nap. I have never been a napper. I walked between 5 and 10 miles a day and did strength exercise in addition to that 7 days a week. I work full time outside the house plus all my work i have to do at home. I canned 22 quarts of peaches the day before my surgery and now I just am so tired and weak. Had to go to the grocery store this morning and thought I was going to pass out. I am drinking lots of fluids and I am sure to get in all my protein. I am trying to be a good patient. I just want my energy back!

    I AM BAD....OPINIONS.

No no shrimp for me! I really don't even like shrimp. It's those darn bisquit that were my downfall. We will get it together. He can go sometime while I am at work. There are weeks he works opposite shifts than me....I would be at work and would be none the wiser.

    I AM BAD....OPINIONS.

Oh I love my husband more than ever. I know it was all ME! He usually is very supportive, I am just being over emotional, I know that! NOW I JUST HAVE TO ADMIT IT TO HIM. LOL. Thanks for the advice, I actually don't know what I would ever do without him. I am not usually so "all over the place with my emotions"

    Advil

Kimba may I ask where in Michigan you had yours done? Because I sure wish I would have went there! I had mine done in Saignaw. Sometimes I think the surgeons err on the side of caution in CASE There is a problem they don't want a lawsuit. IMO. I work for doctors and it seems everyone is always worried about lawsuits.

Liquid Diet Advantage or Unjury .. Which did you like?

I preferred Unjury. I used skim milk, sf ff pudding and ice and it made it like a banana shake.
  19. Thinkingthinner1109

    I AM BAD....OPINIONS.

If I would have only had one cheddar bay bisquit in the past instead of four........I probably wouldn't be in this position.
