Oh I can so relate!! I had surgery 8/26 and was absolutely miserable. Even stayed in the hospital until late Friday due to complications. The barium liquid for the X-Ray had a nightmare result for me and I was extremely sick. Plus I still can't get a deep breath in. Now the shoulder pain has kicked in. I know it feels so frustrating and that light we saw at the end of the tunnel has dimmed, but I just tell myself it's baby steps. Anything worth having is worth the journey. You can do it!! Stay positive!!! (I know, easier said than done). Spoil yourself with naps, taking it easy, casual walks, and for me, sugar free Popsicles!! :-) Find the good in the little stuff. I'm with you!!! Best of luck!! xox

I have had a horrible 7 days I am only 7 days post op also. I have had burning incision pain, just plain pain, I was allergic to the hydrocodone and had vivid dreams/nightmares and it gave me Migraine headaches. I have cried everyday since I have had my surgery. Doing my best to walk and sleep. I don't know who said anything sarcastic it certainly was not me! I can't get in enough Protein or Water. The Calcium and Vitamins I am taking upset my stomach. I cannot stomach crushing my meds and have had to discontinue some of them. I thought I had the beginning of a UTI yesterday which made me even more miserable. So anyone that thought I was being smart by putting lol has a huge misconception. I am miserable and I feel for anyone going through this process it is VERY difficult. You are all in my prayers and I pray that God keep you in the palm of His hands and heal quickly.

Funny, I don't think I was fully prepared either. I'm a registered nurse, and I absolutely knew the facts. I knew what to expect during and after surgery, and in the months/years following surgery. However, knowing facts and living them are two very different things.
One thing for sure, it does get better with time. I think the thing I found to be most shocking was what a chore it was to eat. It almost didn't seem worth the effort. I didn't want what I could have, and it didn't taste good anyway, and it just was not appealing. It was easier to not eat than to go through the effort to prepare the 2-3 bites I could eat. And drinking felt funny, and I could only handle a little bit at a time. And taking the vitamins! It was a full time job getting them right. I remember taking some in the middle of the night to keep from taking them on top of each other.
Now, at 21 months out, I sort of miss those days. Eating and drinking is easy again, and I can eat anything (in reduced quantity) that I want. Now it take a lot of will power to stay the path - another thing I wasn't fully prepared for!
My point is that no matter how much we prepare, I don't think you can ever really get it until you live it, and we each have a unique perspective. Congrats on your recent sleeve, and best wishes!

What's your favorite thing to eat in the puree stage? The idea of pureeing meat sounds disgusting.

When you think you're going to lose weight from the liquid diet you've been on for the last three days, it's a little disconcerting to see that number go up.
I figured it was from the saline and narcotics, I just wanted to check and see if anyone else has experienced this too. Thank you!!

Its time for another challenge! This challenge will be beginning with the first weigh in on Friday September 5th. From there on after, weigh ins will take place Fridays. Last weigh in will be Friday October 31st. This will allow a total of 9 weigh ins in all. I will post the link for the spreadsheet once its the week of. Few reminders. -Weights will be entered in whole numbers. -please post weigh ins here in this post only. -we are all here to support each other..so questions posted here will be answered by anyone else willing to help. -if you want to adjust your goal weight, just add that in any reply to this post. -if you miss a weigh in...no biggie. Just report back in the next week. -this is an amazing tool to help us all! Make it fun, challenge yourself, and cheer on the rest of the pack! -I'm no excel expert. I can do only the basics. So this isn't a fancy spreadsheet by any means. But I will keep it up to date and do my best to report the onderlands and other big crossings as I am able to. I do have young kids and I also work too. So some weeks i'm not able to update until a few days after report in day. It will be done. Lastly, you will know it is updated once I have liked your post. Have fun with this! Challenge yourself in new ways! Join us for the halloween challenge!

I use myfitnesspal. You can scan the barcode and it will pull in the exact information. You can also do my fitness pal online. MFP is free and for both android and iphones. Once you have an item in your personal database, it will come up in your frequent or recent choices so you can add it again the next day super easily.

    Hello, Janie,
I had my sleeve done just two weeks ago. I lost about 40 pounds in the six months prior to surgery and have lost about 10 pounds since surgery. I have to believe that I will continue to lose even though I am menopausal as long as I do what I'm supposed to do with diet and exercise. It's a journey, and though these early post-surgical days are challenging (trying to get enough fluids and protein), I know it it's a journey I'm glad I'm on. Good luck to you with your journey!!

Hi Janie, I had surgery 6 weeks ago and I am going to be 59 next week. My first 4 weeks I lost 19 lbs. I only weigh when I go to my doctor so I won't know how much more I have lost until Sept. 3rd. Like everyone else says, if you follow the plan you will lose weight. The main focus has to be on Protein and Water. After your surgery please make sure to get your Water in as soon as you can drink. I didn't and ended up dehydrated. You don't want that. You might want to start practicing now on taking very small sips. Don't forget to take your measurements the day before surgery so when the scale isn't moving you will see your progress by rechecking your measurements. Good luck.

you are only 43 that is almost 6 years younger than me. I am post menopausal and have lost 130+ pounds. if you follow the plan you will lose! Protein first! you are young! there are many people older than you or me successful with the sleeve. It is all up to you and in your control.

    Hi Janie,
I had the sleeve done just over 2.5 months ago. I had the same fears you did. I am post menopausal and am losing weight. I don't want to jinx myself but I have lost some weight every week so far. I have just started to notice that I am losing hair but it will come back so am not that concerned. I have followed my doctor's program with only slight variations (I never could do strained food) and am very pleased with my numbers. I have no regrets! Good luck to you!!

I had quite a few food funerals before I started my 2 week pre-op diet. It was so unnecessary! I still eat some of my favorites, but others, like bread and Pasta, I just don't want any more.
The night before my surgery, after I had followed the pre-op diet perfectly (2 shakes and 1 lean and green meal daily), my doc said, "Go out and have dinner tonight. No restrictions other than no all you can eat buffets and don't over do on red meat." My husband and I looked at him like he was crazy. I asked if he was joking - he wasn't. He said, "Go out and have a great time."
So, there I was thinking about what I wanted...did I want Mexican? Italian? pizza? Wow, it was a hard decision. We decided to go to macaroni Grill...We started with some bread and we ordered an appetizer of stuffed baby peppers. I ordered a Pasta with grilled chicken. Oh my god, it was wonderful. But what I realized about half way thru the dinner was it was awesome because I was with my husband and I wasn't eating very much food. I was eating slowly, savoring every bit, as I had practiced for the previous two weeks. We followed dinner up with two Desserts...we both took a couple of bites of each dessert and left the rest. It was an awesome evening with my husband - we were both scared because I was going into surgery the next morning and we discussed the risks. We didn't know what was going to happen. We were just happy being with each other in that moment. It was awesome.
So, enjoy your last meal - savor it. Most importantly, share it with someone special to you and make it about more than just the food you are consuming.

I'm now a week out. Have lost the surgery weight (15 lbs - really?? ) and then 2 lbs onto my new journey. Had alittle nausea during hospital stay. Now I'm working at getting myself on a schedule to get my Protein and fluids up to where they should be. I have absolutely no hunger so I have to try to work a schedule to get my protein in. Started walking once I got home. First walk was very short and it exhausted me. This morning I walked almost a mile and was charged up when I finished! This is the start of my new life! Thanks for all the support!
