    Medication crushing

:D I'm so happy to see this thread! I am only 7 days post-op and...UGH...so over crushing my pills. I take 6 meds, of various sizes, and OMG, they taste so nasty mixed or concealed in anything. I'm going to try cutting them into tiny pieces tonight and see how it goes. Thanks so much for all your posts, you guys! :D

    Pre-op Diet! successes? struggles?

Hi everyone! Hope you're all doing great. My surgery is 2 weeks from today - April 10. I started my Pre-Op diet today. My diet consists of 2 Protein shakes + 1 healthy meal (4-6 oz. of lean meat plus 1 cup of non-starchy, green veggies) with 1 cup of fruit (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cherries or apple) and either 1 sf popcicle or sf Jello per day for a snack. I can also have coffee, tea, broth and sf drinks like Crystal Lite, etc. and lots of Water. I felt loopy today, in the afternoon, and realized that it was the same way I felt before, a few years ago, when I made the switch to low-carb eating. It was rough for about 3 days, then I felt a lot better and even got a little extra energy. So, holding out for Day 4. LOL I'm going to bed early tonight. I remember my nutritionist at True Results telling me to just go to bed early, after my last Protein shake or snack, when I went on the pre-op diet. Good luck everyone! I'll post back in a couple of days. Hopefully, I'll feel much better.

  4. I'm scheduled for my surgery on April 10, so am starting my pre-op diet on March 27th. I'm super-excited but also starting to feel a bit nervous (understandable) and just ready to get it all done. Thanks for posting about all of your Pre-Op diet experiences. It's great to read about before I start. Good luck everyone! We got this!

    What was worse part

I didn't care much for the EGD. Just had it this morning. And, the worst part: because there was still some food left in my stomach (apparently, I'm a slow-digester), I have to do it again in 2 weeks. UGH! At least I know what to expect next time. I have to get a sleep study, as well, but that's not scheduled yet. Just keeping my eyes on the prize...it's all good.

    Here for my daughter.

This has totally brought tears (good ones) to my eyes. It is so cool that you are so supportive of your daughter and you totally remind me of my Mom. We are separated by a much smaller distance than you and your daughter, and I miss her so much. Just know that your daughter will so love how much support you are giving her, no matter what the distance, and it will give her strength and courage to keep going in the right direction. Awesome post!

you would think (rant about my new doctor)

Wow, that's really crummy of your PCP. Having such a huge life-change ignored feels just as bad as if he were totally negative about it. I am thinking about finding a new PCP, too. My husband and I are going to be having lap band surgery in about 6 months (insurance requirements - DOH). We have been seeing a husband and wife pair of doctor's as our PCP's for about seven years. About 6 months ago, before I had even really decided to get WLS, my doctor and I were discussing my latest weight gain and how difficult the previous year had been for me. I asked her opinion of WLS and was totally FLOORED when she looked me straight in the eye and said she "I think it's the absolute worst thing you could do". I was shocked. She went on to tell me about studies and there being no evidence that long-term weight loss was the norm after WLS and more negative stuff that ended with her telling me about what a "wonderful example of someone who got it right, the actor Jason Alexander", was. Apparently, she saw him on tv talking about how seeing a shrink and "fixing what was going on in his head finally helped him lose the weight". So, not only was she basically insinuating that I would be stupid and wrong to get WLS and that I was crazy, to boot. My husband has since found out, through conversations with her husband, his PCP, feels pretty much the same. We just really need to find another doctor, because we are both dreading telling them about my decision to have WLS and just don't really want to hear what they has to say on the matter. We've only told my Mom and my best friend about our decision, who are both very supportive. I am nervous about telling my sister, too.
