  1. I really only saw the surgeon for the one week follow up.

On the 3/6/9 and what will be the 12 month I have labs and a follow up with nurse practitioner s with the practice.

So my labs are fine and I have no specifics issues. I have shared my labs with my pcp and she prescribes my Migraine medicine and also share with my psychiatrist and she prescribes my crazy pills. They are all in unison to keep me functional.

But really I think I'm done with the surgeon per se because I'm not having issues.

  2. I know you will get soooo many answers and you will get so many days of stalls and frustrations.

Here was my take on it. I do weigh every day. If my weight drops lower than its been then I do record in my fitness pal. If not I just move on and don't sweat it. I don't bother with the fluctuation and frustration.

I'm 11 months out and hit goal at 9 and under since. scale does not move much at all. Many many stalls that began at 10 days and continued at a logical stair step pattern throughout the process.

See what works for you. I just don't record any ups because they are not permanent.

  3. Jackie

I'm 11 months out and I had many days and weeks where I felt like you. I did well always with shakes and liquids but I had pains with foods that just left me miserable.

I had so many pity parties and thought I'd never get to a point where I would enjoy anything again. I kept reading on here how many were just progressing so well.

My tastes were so off and the pains were so real.

Now, it's past but I still am only at about 4 to 6 bites per meal. Seriously. That's it. The denser the Protein the less I can eat.

And I cook these elaborate meals for my family of 6 and by the time I serve them I don't even make a plate because I've taste tested a few bites and I'm not hungry any longer.

It will get better. Hang in there. Keep hydrated and keep the Protein and your Vitamins going. All my labs have been excellent and I reached goal at 9 months. I'm 3 pounds under now.

    Good luck to you.

  4. I agree with the other posters. If you don't keep the temping "treats" in the house then you should stay on track 95% of the time.

I am 10 months out and I still pack my purse every morning before I leave the house. I carry flavored Water everywhere all day long. I keep almonds cheese sticks Protein bars and a variety of fruit or veggie bites with me. Again I know that's not where you are yet, but it is a learned and developed discipline.

Because I do not keep the other in the house I just don't snack on them at random and or often. It is a conscious choice I make every time I shop at the grocery.

You are doing great. You have made a lifelong commitment to change yourself and there is not a customized manual made just for you. You have to write it as you go along and as you learn.

I still have emotional days. We all do. And finally I'll say each day is a new one and we can start again to reach a small personal win ...

  5. I had to do just like all the other patients 6 days full liquid and final day clear liquid.

No exceptions for me. The doctor told me he had a hard time getting all of the instruments into me. I think due to a smaller rib cage even though I carried most my weight in my stomach.

9 months out and under goal.

  6. Just another FYI.

When I had my EDG pre op they showed me my hiatal hernia AND multiple ulcers on my stomach.

I had NO idea. They said good thing most of those will be removed with my stomach and those left will heal with the PIP.

That was from years of my own headache management with OTC NSAIDs.

Like I said I a previous post I just don't use them period. Dr said never and I know why.

  7. Good news. I'm 9 months out and popcorn is great for me. I treat myself at the movies if we go. So a nice way to feel normal again and thank goodness no pain or regret.

So far no issues. It is a slider, so I bring a bag from home and fill it up. That way I only have a portion I am comfortable with !!!

Good luck to you if there is a next time.

  8. Brittany. Believe that many of us have felt the way you have many many times.

I'm 9 months out and at goal and I had two weeks of the blues last month that I thought I was just miserable and would be for the rest of my life.

The doctors office says your sleeve ebbs and flows. I say that no one can prepare you for the true reality of how hard it is to recover, adjust and how much your entire life still revolves around food every day all day. So strange but true.

You need a friend who is going through it too. This forum is great. If you need a person to talk to please message me. I'm a working mom with multiple jobs, kids and a crazy life. Your surgery date is on my my sons birthday month and day. That's why I read your post.

Hang in there. It will get better.

  9. Great job on the weight loss.

Yes it will slow. I did the same thing. I had 54 total to lose and lost 30 by week 7 and I'm at goal at month 9.

The first loss was fast and after month three it was stalls and slow but steady. Maybe one pound or a little more a week.

All my labs have been great. I keep up with Protein intake first and foremost and Vitamins. I make sure I'm hydrated and then enjoy the rest of my food selections for the day.

I have worked out very little because of my Migraines so I am going to start strength training to firm up and see where my body wants my weight to be.

Even though you have more to lose, if you work your program, you could be at goal within year one and then some.

It's all about you and what you do for yourself.

You sound like you're doing it all right so far. Keep it up.

  10. I agree with the other poster. Please do not advance so soon. I am 9 months post op and I STILL have issues with grapes and oranges and watermelon.

Even though it's fruit and a juice, my sleeve just doesn't agree. And you just being 9 days and healing I just can't imagine.

Please please don't do that again. Or more than anything .,, remember it again for the next time because it probably will happen again.

Good luck to you and hopefully lesson learned.

  11. Thank you vets for the responses. I wanted to ask the same question and I feel the same way too about being able to eat the sweets in larger quantities.

I am at 9 months and at goal but sometimes I'm just miserable. My sleeve is just more cranky than I am with the foods it wants and it makes every day a challenge.

I really want to know if I will ever feel normal every day when I eat. I keep saying that it's still me: I eat too fast or too big of a bite or too much and I'm too full. I would have to say that every single day since my sleeve has been a constant work in progress to get myself together. Right now it's more like 65% uncomfortable and35% ok.

I want to know why some vets do regain the weight? Please don't beat me up answering. Can they really eat more volume?? And therefore eat more calories or is it eating poor calories/fats but in the smaller volume???

The reason I ask is that I heard and read that most sleeve sizes are the same. And from what I've read here, we are eating about the same. So ... Where is the falling off part? I guess that even if I eat crappy all day I get so full so fast I'm miserable and if I truly pushed it, I would throw up. So I don't know if I actually could consume that.

Please be gentle with my feelings. I've never had to ask questions about regaining weight. It's always been about losing.

And even though it's not great, at least I know there are others out there that do not feel Peachy and roses every day with their sleeve. Mine is mean a lot and I think we just need to play nice.

Thanks vets. I'll be joining you soon.

  12. I can only answer for my situation. I'm at 9 months post op and I'm at goal.

However here is my reality every single day.

I have a Protein drink every single morning. My tastes have totally changed and the things I enjoyed before I don't necessarily now.

I think about my food selections every single day all day due to what I think I might want throughout the day. I still do not tolerate all foods so some days are good and some are bad. One extra bite can leave me miserable for hours.

I can only eat four or five bites of anything or less. So I never finish a meal. EVER. It's been a real adjustment.

You need to be prepared for this. I will never again be able to go to a restaurant and have a salad, entree and dessert no matter how small.

I also do get dehydrated all the time. I can tell and I keep a Water bottle on me at all times and the sensation is unsettling. I thought it would subside the father out I went but I still need the Water !!!!

I guess I also thought that I would just be able to eat what I wanted but just less and this is so much more. It's work 24 / 7 getting your sleeve to cooperate and agree with your days plans.

Lately I have kind of had the blues. Because even though I am at goal I sure would just love to enjoy a cup of coffee. But my sleeve doesn't.

I'd sure would like certain things ... But my sleeve doesn't. Recently it has rejected the water enhancers and I had to switch to tea. That's fine but it's not me it's the sleeve. Ugh.

I don't get to eat with my family most of the time because by the time it is done I have taste tested 2 or 3 bites and I eat another 3 or 4 bites and I'm done. I eat at the island by the stove and watch them. I don't sit at the table any longer.

But all of this does not compare to the rituals I carried on year after year and pound after pound with the weight. It's just that the food tasted great haha.

I wouldn't back out but I would really think about the fact that it is the end of and old you and the beginning of a new and healthy you.

  13. I set it up in stages. I let management know I needed time for some tests. That's when I did the psych and EDG.

Then I said the bloodwork was alarming and off the charts and I had to make some drastic changes. I let them know I had a scope and ulcers on my stomach and needed a hernia repair and surgery was needed. I let them know a strict diet was necessary too for needed weight loss.

So everything fell in place and I was a perfect pro active person letting everyone know I was going to be out but not for too long. I was back to work within a week.

They just accepted the liquid diet before and the "new" diet afterwards and they commended me on my changes since the surgery.

So I just didn't share everything because I've been there 15 years and it's all women and they are the kind of people that would have used the words "easy way out". When this has been the most work I've put into a lifestyle change in the past year!!!

I'm comfortable with what I've said and the only difference is that I remedied the ulcers mostly with a vsg, hahaha.

    Good luck to you.

  14. Hello all!!! I'm 9 months post op and hit my goal weight yesterday exactly on the day. 138 even. I'm not exercising nor following anything extreme except I do have a Protein Shake daily.

The initial weight loss was great. I stalled a lot and the last months have been slow. But like I said I have not been working out. I think if I stepped that up I would see more results in tone and shape than just a number.

It has definitely been a year like no other.
