    NSV shout outs

Went to visit my father who had been hospitalized last weekend. It was the first time I had seen my family since July. Walked into the hospital room to see my mom, my brother and sister in law, my niece and her boyfriend all sitting in the room. They all got quiet, and just waited for me to introduce myself (they thought I was one of the medical staff). It took at least 30 seconds for my brother to recognize me. Lol, 75 lbs less of me to recognize. My moms mouth was just hanging open. LOVED IT!

    Exhaustion? Day 8 Post Op

Mine started about a week out of surgery, just as I was getting around better and starting to be more active. It lasted about a month. But after that first month, I had lots of energy.

    Protein Amounts

My daily limits are as follows: Proteins 60 to 80 grams a day, but I stick closer to the 60 gram limit Carbs no more than 100 grams a day Fats no more than 30 grams a day, with at least 10 grams of "good" fats at one meal. (Olive oil, flax seed oil etc.) As for hair loss, I've heard that it levels off at about 6 months post-op. I've got about another month and a half to reach that point.... I'll let you know.

    The FLU?

Yes..... You can still get the flu. Viral infections don't know that part of your stomach is gone. If you get a viral infection, you will really need to stay hydrated. I've already gotten my flu shot this year, as well as a pneumonia vaccine. I'm not taking any chances.

    Constipation!:(:(:(

Benefiber powder. Put a teaspoon in whatever liquid you are drinking. Works great.

    What about gum?

My NUT and doc both said no gum. You swallow air when chewing gum, and could cause problems post sleeve and bypass.

    Weight loss, anyone?

It's normal to hit a stall when you're about two weeks to three weeks postop. Just keep to the plan and you'll start losing the weight again in no time at all. It's just a mechanism for your body to help you recover after surgery. And you will actually have periodic stalls throughout the time that you're losing weight, during those times your body is resculpting itself and you'll be losing inches.

    So tired. Normal?

It takes at least a month to get over the fatigue. Even though it may not seem like it,because of the small incision sites, we just had MAJOR surgery, it takes a while for our bodies to recuperate. In the first few weeks, it's important to follow what your body tells you it needs. Once you are able to get in more protein and fluids, it gets better quickly.

    Caloric Intake

@@yorkiegirl2013 I would start with your post-op diet routine and track all the you eat. My postop diet is 60 to 80 grams of protein, 30 grams of fats, and no more than 100 grams of carbs. Eating proteins first, then carbs and finally fats.

    Protein Powders

I like crystal light raspberry lemonade with unsweetened almond milk and a scoop of vanilla unjury protein powder.

Would you have WLS again? What kind?

Yes I would do it all over again. I am extremely happy with my RNY. I just wish I had been brave enough to get it done 10 years earlier.
  13. Mayaresearchmom

Pregnant-does OB have to know about WLS?

Absolutely they need to know about your WLS. To not tell your OB is doing a disservice to your child. Your OB's job is to ensure that you deliver a healthy child, without your complete medical/surgical history they cannot plan for or help prevent any adverse effects that your diet and health may have on your child.

Which food tracking app are you using?

I use My Fitness Pal. You can customize the daily requirements to meet your needs, and I have not yet found a food the is not listed in its data base. You can also track your activities, and synch it with several digital tracking systems. I use it every day. I find it much easier to use than the weight watchers app I used in the past.

Help! I'm not getting my water or protein

@ At 2 weeks out, the beans still may be too thick. Make them mushier or about the consistency of the yogurt, and they may be easier to tolerate. You may be trying to go to thicker solids too quickly. You might find some interesting recipes on one of these sites that will sit well. http://bariatricfoodie.blogspot.com/search/label/pureed%20stage http://milestogo.squarespace.com http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com http://www.bariatriceating.com/category/wls-friendly-recipes/recipes/eggs-cheese-rule/
  17. @@Idahospud You've been quiet on here, so I'm doing my weekly check on you. Hope you are doing well. How are those baby boys? In no time at all you will be chasing them around.

    Psych appointment help

I was scared of the unknown going into the psych eval. I came out wondering how many different ways can they ask if you love your mother. I felt like a lot of the questions were repetitive, just asking the same thing over and over using different terminology. I caught myself thinking during the test, now how did I answer that the last time.

    Why liquid diet?

A Liquid diet is prescribed post op so that your stomach and all the suture/staple lines can heal properly. If you try putting solid foods in too early, you could rupture your staple lines. Solids would also cause irritation to the staples, which could cause leaks and or ulcers to form. Your stomach needs rest in order to heal correctly. I am not sure about diets post op for the band, but it seems like if there is something restricting access to your stomach that you need foods that will pass thru the opening easily.
  20. @@Idahospud I had bypass, so I am not sure about the sleeve. I have lost an average of 4 lbs a week since surgery. Some weeks it may be more, and twice I have not lost anything for almost 2 weeks, then dropped a lot the next week. Just follow the plan that your doctor and NUT have set up for you and you will do fine. LOL,must don't get on that scale for often than once a week. I'm proud of what you have accomplished so far. Your doing great.

    My sleeve is angry

My nut said no raw vegetables or salads for 4 to 6 months. As for chicken, I am 4 months out, and can only have boneless skinless chicken thighs. Chicken breast are toooo dry, no matter how I cook them. I eat a lot of shrimp, and ground turkey.

Help! I'm not getting my water or protein

Try the protein jello recipe. Jello was considered a liquid in both my preop and postop diets. This was a life saver. Also the fact that it was something to chew helped a lot. Still making it 4 months post op. I can't figure out how to get the actual address of the page to show up. The recipe can be found on the website for unjury.

    Getting bored

@@LisaCO That's what I do. I have a whole shelf in my freezer with individual servings of precooked meals. Makes it great for those days when I've had a rough day at work, or the kids are all eating out and it's just my husband and I at home. LOL, he may eat more than one serving, but that's ok, it gives me more room to try new recipes. I bought a bunch of small Corningware ramekins that only hold 4 ounces. They work great because they can go from freezer to microwave.
