Ive had a diet coke on a couple occasions with no issues. I'm 10 months out but didn't allow myself to have any carbonation until at least 6 months post op. I personally have no interest to drink soda, I used to live on it but it just doesn't do anything for me anymore, but I do have one from time to time with no issues. If your going to do it stick to diet and listen to your body.

    Hello everybody,
My wife is having surgery next month and to help support her I've been looking for any resources geared towards the partners of Gastric Bypass surgery patients but sadly I found very little.
We all know that the rate of divorce after weight loss surgery is statistically high and I think that is quite sad.
So I've decided to start a blog to recount my own experiences as my wife and I go forward towards and after the surgery.
The blog is anonymous as requested by my wife though she totally supports the endeavor, she knows that some people can be very judgemental regarding weight loss surgery.
Anyway if you'd like to take a look at my project the links are below.

I seriously just wrote a post almost identical to this a couple weeks ago. I also had no restriction from the carbs and just kept eating like it was nothing. Lesson was learned and I've moved on.

Carbs do NOT fill up the tummy like protein and you can just eat, and eat, and eat with little problem. In the end, I realize I have to make better choices and plan my meals every single minute to avoid overeating. I'm also 3.5 months out and thought my restriction would help more but it didn't. I thought I was over the binging but I guess I may struggle with that forever. Just don't get too discouraged. I moved on from the day and I've lost 9 lbs since then. Just do better each day, that's all we can do! Good luck to you!

Keeping your mind will definitely help the head hunger. Its good to know weight is going down. Other than what you mentioned should be conscious of your diet..

I think it's head hunger, I've been struggling as well and also 3 weeks out.
I recognize it as head hunger and find myself thankful that I had the surgery because I know I can't give in to those cravings. Also, if you are pureeing any carb type stuff, go easy on that, it can make the cravings worse.
Good luck!! Try to distract yourself, for me the head hunger chills out if I keep myself busy.

That had to have been so frustrating! Having said that, I work for the informatics department at the VA and while they get a lot of slack, they are held to a higher standard than the private sector. And that is exactly where that BMI question came from. All VAs nationally have a performance metric where they have to offer the MOVE! program to Veterans with a BMI greater than 25. In a lot of cases, it is an appropriate screening question, but in a lot of cases (yours) it absolutely is not. Unfortunately VA Central Office does not allow facilities to cherry pick from that "patients with BMI>25" population. And I can assure you that the nurse asking you the question would not have done so if it did not require her to do it, because we can all agree that, clinically, you are no longer a candidate! So give her a break and smile and politely decline. I'm sure she was uncomfortable asking you the question and was aware of the irony in the situation. I know I would have been!

I love popcorn. I had it three months out. I air pop it and have it plain. Small portions to give me a treat. As long as I reached my protein for the day.

In general, I was good to go after about day 4. The biggest hurdle is working through the gas pain, and the walking will help. I've been dealing with sciatica pain since last August so that prevented me from doing a bunch of walking, but if that wasn't the case, I'd have been good to go.

Hey everyone, thanks for your replies. C3love5 I went to that group meeting this past Wednesday and did my final appt. The thing is, they didn't call me like they were supposed to to let me know about it like they said they would,I had to call them?. So luckily I called right on the day the meeting was being held an hour and half before it started, smh. That pissed me off too because they told me twice that they would be calling me with my final date.
yeah Dr. Lufi is great, one of the best in the state,he teaches other surgeons?
Now I'm just waiting for them to submit my paper to insurance. I'm going to stay on them too.....

I dont' weigh in every day. In fact, as I think about it, this is week 3 with no weigh-in. (I'll get to it tomorrow!) my point is, if you stick with MFP or some other tracking device, and you go by how you feel in your clothes and the NSV's you receive by way of compliments, etc., you don't need to rely on the scale so much. It makes me crazy to monitor every little fluctuation.

I had my surgery on the 5th of April and 2 days later developed a "spasm" or Sharp pain in the center of my stomach right below my sternum. Thus pain is excruciating when it comes on, lasts for 5 to 10 seconds then goes away. Thus happens several times an hour. Has anyone experienced this? The nurse told me it is the esophagus adjusting to a higher pressure and that it gets better but it is getting worse. I am down 31 lbs since pre op diet but right now with this pain am wondering what the heck did I just do!

I have a question..... I'm 9 weeks out today from VSG. I have lost almost 50 pounds and I'm feeling more energetic every day. Has anyone had to deal with a partner that is still overweight and now you're on different levels of energy and sex drive??? I thought even if it was just me feeling better that it would get easier. It seems harder now. Feeling discouraged....

This is the hardest phase .. I remember counting the days when I would be able to introduce he purees but your almost there... you can do this.
Are you having jello.. I also drank sugar free peach Snapple.. got sick of water.. This process is very hard. I am post 4 months and can say I am a little better then I was. But those two months are terrible. Have a friend who shared with me that the first year overall is the worst but after the year things improve.. I HOPE SO....

Most of us have been there. You just deal with it. I would kill to go back to that stage where I was not hungry. A shake, a boiled egg, I was satisfied. Four years later you will be complaining because your weight loss has stopped. Please try to just relax, enjoy the restriction, and get a hobby. Walk. Work in the garden. Forget the food. Good luck.

I am scheduled to have my sleeve surgery in June, I have been going back and forth between excitement and fear. Today was just another "reminder" of why I NEED this surgery so bad. I was taking my niece into the gym for her softball practice, it was a downhill walk, then up 2 flights of steps into the gym. For the first time in my life, I got extrememly winded and felt like I was going to pass out. It was the scariest feeling ever (it didn't help that the gym was EXTREMELY HOT) This never evwn happened to me when I weighed 310 lbs! (I now weigh 276) I know now that I need to be more scared of NOT having sugery than having it.

You look great! I'm scheduled for 2 weeks from tomorrow. What type of exercise are you doing? I plan on spinning for my cardio, but the nearest gym I have is an hour away and so the strength training is what I'm concerned about. Any suggestions and what do you do for strength training?
