  1. I'm going through it right now. It's pretty significant. The below pic is from today's shower (drain fur ball + gentle combing)...this has been going on for a few weeks now. Hoping it lets up really soon.
  2. Same here - cold most of the time. It's really a change for me, I was my own weather system (hot flashes). 99% of my clothes were short-sleeve...all winter long (in New England). The mere thought of wearing a sweatshirt or a sweater would induce a hot flash. Now I have long sleeves, and layer up. Curl up in a fleece in the evening...it's just so weird to me. I almost miss the hot flashes!
  3. That's often my signal too - a big hiccup!
  4. I use ground flax seed in my morning shake. I use a tablespoon a day. Not sure how that stacks up against using the oil?
  5. Totally shocked and thrilled. I ordered a pair of size 12 jeans and they arrived this afternoon. I was wearing 14's that I got just a few weeks ago. Figured picking up the next size down (same brand) would be a motivator. I tried them on and they fit!! Guess I'll need to get a 10 to hang on the back of the door, heh. Not dropping a lot of pounds, but my size is shrinking :-) To think I was a size 20 when I started this journey the end of April. THANK YOU MS. SLEEVE!!
  6. I have good days and bad days. I think I'm more aware of it now (vs. pre-op). I have my 3 month follow up in two weeks. I hope I'm on track, lol. I think since it's not so new and exciting to those close around us, it's more "business as usual". The support is there, but it's not like it's talked about like it was in the beginning. I found the monthly support group meeting was re-invigorating. Looking forward to next months meeting. I also feel like I should be further along, but have to come to understand that I probably was a little ambitious with my expectations. 11 weeks and down 18 lbs. (47 overall). I really can't complain!
  7. I used to have so much hair - really...like cray thick hair (lots per square inch). My hair has all ready been thinning for the last year or so (hormones?). But now I've been having A LOT of hair-loss for the past 3 weeks (much sooner than I expected). It's blocking the shower drain (big fur ball)...then when I comb my hair (wide tooth) I end up with a large pile collected in the sink before picking it up and throwing it away. I've stopped blow drying my hair, and have been washing every other day (can't go longer than that). I always get my Protein in, and take my Multivitamins. I really hope this doesn't go on for months, or I truly will go bald!
  8. You'll be OK. I just had a long stall. It totally sucks and gets in your head. Stick with your program and it WILL come off. My body fights to hold on to everything. I put on weight following WW the last time. And I've lost a bunch of weight with them before. But the last two times, my weight went up..and I was very strict on the plan. Welcome to the 50's I guess, sigh. I don't know about you, but part of my reasoning for having the surgery was so I couldn't walk away from it. I mean, I could choose to eat poorly, but my days of stuffing myself are officially over. If it takes me longer than others to drop the weight, not much I can do about it. One thing I've learned in this short time is that my body is going to do what it's going to do. Ultimately I'm not giving it any choice but to lose weight by following my plan. Hope your stall breaks soon!
  9. RJ, you have done AWESOME. Some dr's are kind of dopes. Just like any folks. I'm sorry you're still having pain - but I'm glad it wasn't another issue. Hope you're feeling 100% soon!
  10. congrats on breaking the stall! I just broke my first stall too. I'm 9 weeks out and hadn't lost anything since around week 5. I was in that place where I wondered if the surgery worked of me. But it's over (yay) and I have faith that this works, even for me :-) I think I'm better prepared to face the next stall.
  11. I didn't feel that right away, but I certainly do now. More so that the weather is getting chilly. I have to make sure I have a light jacket or something to wear as another layer in the office. brrr.
  12. For me, I sure hope so! Honestly, I have no idea. Never thought about it. Curious to see an responses.
  13. I developed reflux immediately after surgery. Managed well with omeprazole 20mg twice a day. I don't know if it's a forever thing since I'm still healing and adjusting. Any regrets - as in would I do it again if I knew I'd end up with reflux? I'D DO IT IN A HEARTBEAT. Best thing I've done for myself.
  14. I have a Ninja Pro. Got it at Bed Bath & Beyond using a 20% off coupon. It does a great job, and I use plenty of ice.
  15. At 4 weeks mine was still bothering me. It actually seemed worse. But by 6 weeks I'd forgotten all about it :-) I think it's just the healing process. Just don't over do it.
  16. As far as I know, the questionnaire I completed for the WL center took care of any such requirement. It asked for this information going back 5 years. I did not have to provide "proof", just list everything I tried, when, and what weight I lost (if any). I don't even know if my PCP had to supply anything...it appears that the center took care of everything. I hope it's that simple for you!
  17. same here, LOL. I have a Tempur-Pedic seat cushion. It was stupid $$, but is a needed addition to my work chair. I also try to be conscious of how I'm sitting - making sure my hips are a little forward which keeps me from rolling back on to my tailbone. At night, I have to tuck the bedding between my knees if I'm on my side. I thought it was just me!
  18. I didn't need any pain meds until a few days out. Took some one evening to be able to sleep. Next day found out it was acid reflux (more omeprazol was the answer). From there I only occasionally took liquid Tylenol if I over did it.
  19. I'm going through this too. It's really scary even though I guess it's normal. I just pray it comes back. My hair has been thinning out for the last year or so (hormones?). The past week or two it's starting to be hand fulls and it's not thick to start out. I was hoping the Vitamins, Biotin, and hitting, and often exceeding, my Protein goals would keep it at a minimum. Nope. And I started at about 6 weeks, not 3 months like so many. Arghhh. I'm thinking of going back to short/shorter hair, but wonder how thin it will look if I do that. Is long hair less revealing than short??
  20. @@ruskatie, I feel for you! I have to avoid gluten, and that can really be tough. I had no idea corn was so prevalent! It may sound silly, but have you looked for an on-line support group or forum for folks with the same allergy? There are such resources for GF and lots of info is shared...just a thought...could help you find alternatives. Like you, I've stopped losing. My surgery was 8/14, and it's been about 2 weeks since more has come off. Maybe it's just more adjustments that our body is making. Keep the faith, and stick with it. And good luck with your new diet restriction. On the plus side, you should feel better eliminating the allergen from your diet.
  21. HI - I'm in Arlington and was sleeved at Lahey Hospital in Burlington. I highly recommend their program, a really great team.
  22. Hi Alex, What kind of help are you looking for?
  23. Mini rant: Ok, I know we have stalls, but this has me in a funk (which came first, the funk or the stall? lol) I know better than to let it bother me, but it's not making a difference. I know that I have to lose weight on 800 cal or less a day. I know that bouncing up two or three lbs. is normal. But the last two weeks is just making me a tad nuts 12-15 lbs in almost 8 weeks, and that loss was in the first 5 or 6 weeks. I feared I'd be a slow loser, and I think that's what I'm finding out. I have my support group tonight. I need it. Ok, that's it. Carry on.
  24. LOL FYI, you can create an account on their website: myfitnesspal.com Then download the app. I found that an easy way. meow!
  25. I'm glad you're considering the surgery, and obviously haven't rushed in to it :-) I can understand you wanting a healthy and fit future! No one can tell you if its right for you - YOU need to decide and be totally committed. It really is for the rest of your life. One thing I can say is that sticking to the plan is easier after surgery - you can't eat much at a time. (that's the "it's a tool" part.) I understand it can be daunting when told to lose weight before hand. It's like "I have trouble losing weight, that's why I'm here!" lol But the good habits and learning how to eat right before surgery really does help afterwards. This site is a great resource. I wish you luck in your journey.
