    Struggling through Pre-Op diet

hey, you'll get throught it. And you get food you can chew! lol. I get two shakes, and a pudding like "substance" from a packet. mmm-mm. Lots of Water, and 8oz of coffe/tea if I want it ( I drink decaf) SF Jello, SF popsicles. A light meal would make this a walk in the park. But I know it's just he beginning and I have to get used to it. So I grumble a bit and carry on. One more day of this and it's the big day. Then the real fun starts. So I guess I should enjoy eating "normal" while I have this tummy not yelling back at me. You'll make it through - hang tough!!

    Surgery tomorrow!

    good luck to you both!
  4. I had a drink with my last real dinner the nigh before my week long liquid diet. So I hope a week out isn't an issue I have avoided alchohol since starting this process in April, and know it's off the list for a period of time post-op.

    Should I Be Prepping ?

lol. I'm all ready thinking about the clothes I'm going to donate. I have no space as it is now. So looking forward to getting rid of stuff. But I'm definitely in nesting mode today. weird. Just a few days left...I know what you mean. Just want to prepare!
  7. Congratulations on what you've accomplished. Really. Don't sweat the stalls. They're going to happen, as frustrating as they are. You are doing AWESOME.

    I think I messed up.....

Glad you're getting some help. We all have our challenges. But please stick to your surgeon's plan. It's there for a very important reason. Your tummy isn't going to feel any pain at this point. Your diet is designed to allow your tummy to heal properly and to prevent a leak. Please be safe, and keep following your plan. I know you'll do great :-)

    Scared

There's nothing wrong with going in to this with the full knowledge of what could go wrong. You really should IMO. I mean, there's really no turning back once it's done. Ask your surgoen and staff lots of questions, and make sure they're the right team for you. I've also asked myself if I could deal with a leak. (apart from death...my biggest fear is a leak). I know a feeding tube, stent, etc would be extremely unpleasant. But I would somehow get through it. My team has had 3 leaks, ever. When I asked why, they said the patients didn't adhere to the post-op dietary instructions. They've also changed the suture line (added reinforcement where it had occurred) and now have VSG patients on 4 weeks of liquids post op. I was pleased that they did not rest with the cause being on the part of the patient, but improved the procedure and post-op recovery. Just think of why you made this choice in the first place. I'm 5 days out from my date, and certainly have some anxiety about it. I think it's natural. I pray nothing goes wrong. I also know I can't stay like I am and after decades of trying everything else, here I am. Wishing you all the best.

    Calling all August Sleevers!

14th here I think you just need to ask yourself if you can ultimately do this on your own. That's what I've had to ask myself. I know the answer is no, or I wouldn't be here now. For me, I've been dowen this road many times before. I've been overweight as long as I can remember. My lowest was in the 170's about 5 years ago. Was I happy? Not really. I was still in pain and on diabetic medication, and it came back on in a year or so, and I didn't exactly go off the deep end with eating crap. So even though I've lost 25 lbs. since starting this recent journey, I know that I need to see it through. I need a life long change to be healthy for the rest of my life. No more fighting to get some weight off only to put it on again. I know it can happen, but I'll still have the tool in place to work it. For ME, at my age, it's time to take this seriously. I wish you the best of luck in what ever you decide is right for YOU.
  12. I have that too. I asked my PCP about it. It is the xyphoid. He said it's protruding from having been overweight for so long. Sad, but true. He also didn't know if it would go back. When I lie on my back, my hands always go to it, lol. I figure it's cartilidge...so maybe I can poke it back in! (It's either that or push the girls back where they're supposed to be )

    The last supper

I figured it out. Going out for a nice filet and martini. Not Capital Grille, but second best. Burton's does a good job. All ready entered in MFP with calories left over. Wanted something I'd enjoy and not have again for a long time. Looking forward to it now :-)
  14. sheesh, hundreds of questions? seems kind of excessive to me. But each program is different. I did have some questions to fill out in advance, but they were more food-behavior oriented. Also no where near that many, maybe 50 total. The pysch appt was less than an hour, and went over my history, and my family history. Probably trying to ID any possible issues I may have, or road blocks I could run in to with support. Why I wanted the surgery and why NOW. That sort of thing. Was definintely nothing to stress over. I wish you the best of luck with your appointment. I know it's hard not knowing what's going to happen. Just do your best to roll with it. They really just want to make sure you're going to be succesfull and not regret it.

    The last supper

Tonight is my "last supper" before the liquid diet. No idea what I want for dinner. I don't want to go over board, just a nice dinner. I thought I'd know what I wanted, but I have no clue. How sad it that?

    Rude Comments

bring her a cupcake. Say, hey I've stop eating this crap. But thought you'd want it. But seriously - you can go either way - kill her with kindesss (take away her "ammo" so to speak), or put her in her place with her boss or HR. Which ever you're most comfortable with. But you shouldn't be having to deal with it. Life is too short. And congrats on your progress!

    Best Tasting Chicken Broth?

I ordered the sample pack from injury and found their chicken broth pleasant. Hope I still do post op because I ordered a tub! I find other broths blah. So I may as well get some Protein in too!

    "My special food"

yes, it's normal! Over the years, on my many diets, I'd buy stuff that was "just for me" because I wassn't eating what they were eating. Sure enough, my son would eat my WW stuff and try to hide the fact. I'd get furious. He wasn't exactly a kid. (early 20's) It's hard enough to work to control what we eat with out our loved one's subverting our efforts. But, they don't see it that way I"m sure. It's yummy, and "healthy". So hey, why not? Now he's on his own, and now it's just me and my hubs. Who now likes my Quest bars, and now my unjury protien powders. Hey!!! lol It could be worse He doesn't complain that I buy them. He's also eating a lot more fruits and veggies. So I can't complain. I did have "the talk" with him about too much Protein when he asked me to get him his own box of Quest bars (good point lisacaron )

    August Sleevers Check In

I head in for my preop tests, NP appt, and pick up my liquid diet supplies in a short time. Start the fun tomorrow. I hope it's not too bad. I look at it as contributing to my weightloss goal, too. So I hope that also motivates me as I'm drinking shakes, lol.(they use New Directions) Once nice little accomplishment today was getting below 200. The scale this morning read 199.0 OMG. The surgeon said to try to get to 200lbs by surgery. I figured with the 2 week liquid diet, I'd do it. Well...I beat it. There were plenty of off plan moments that I need to work on, but I'm pretty happy. I'm so glad I've started this journey - otherwise my weight would be going up again and I'd be miserable.
  22. Hi there! I'm getting sleeved at Lahey Hospital on 8/14. I go in for my pre-op on Thursday, and start my liquid diet Friday. Trying so hard not to have that "food funeral" state of mind this past week. It's tough!

    Just found out

I think I'm in the same boat. I get the verbal "I support you", but then later he'll say things that don't really add up. Like "you just need to be more active". Or "it's just caolries in vs. calories out". Then, "but I support you". It's quite frustrating. I know he doesn't "get it". He hasn't had to go through what I have since childhood, and I'm glad he hasn't. It's a form of life long suffering I would only wish on my worst enemy I'm so happy to see your hubby be such a good advocate for you now, that's teriffic! I'm sure mine will eventually see that this is what I really needed to get my health in order too.
