  1. That's interesting. I'm on synthroid too. My levels will be checked again later this month, but one month post op I didn't need the dose adjusted. It would be AWESOME to come off it, but my expectations are that I'll remain on it. I'm on it because I had Grave's disease and they nuked too much of my thyroid. But I was 100+ lbs overweight at the time. So I guess there's hope that at a normal weight it would be ok. Maybe that's how folks end up coming off it?
  2. I have a Ninja (same idea). I used it a ton during recovery to puree Soups. I still use it for shakes.
  3. I submitted for FMLA, just because you never know if something doesn't go quite right and more could be needed. According to my HR person, she doesn't even look at the paperwork - she just files it away. I told my boss (male) that I was just having a procedure and needed recovery time. Two close colleagues, I told. Other than that, I really didn't want to be the subject of the gossip - it can be like kindergarten here. Soon folks will forget how much I've physically changed and will get on with their lives :-) When I've been asked I've said I'm going to a weight loss center (true) and working with a nutritionist (true). Outside of work, it's completely different - I tell anyone who asks.
  4. switching PPI's can make a difference. It did for me. Omeprazole was changed to pantoprazole. I have also been put on ranitidine (generic zantac) at bed time. I'm doing much better. Hope you get some relief!
  5. My niece is a life/wellness coach. I had told my brother and his wife that I'd decided to have WLS. I felt that my immediate family should know - I know I would like to know if something major was going on with them. They were very supportive and loving. About a week later I get an email from my niece: Let me work with you, if we fail you can still go through with it..."stomach stapling" is drastic, blah blah. If it was anyone else, I would have been a little curt with them. But I know she was approaching me out of concern. It took over a week to reply, but I did so politely. She seemed to understand, and has been very supportive since. I don't know what I would have done if it was from a stranger, and they kept persisting like a telemarketer!

    Maintaining Her down there

    A couple of inches ???!!!
  7. My steri strips stayed on until my two week check up. They were then removed. I was given several viles of "detachol". Worked great!! Here's a link so you can see what it is: http://www.hightidehealth.com/ferndale-detachol-adhesive-remover.html

    Hairloss percentages ?

I'm going through it right now. It's pretty significant. The below pic is from today's shower (drain fur ball + gentle combing)...this has been going on for a few weeks now. Hoping it lets up really soon.

    Cold all the time

Same here - cold most of the time. It's really a change for me, I was my own weather system (hot flashes). 99% of my clothes were short-sleeve...all winter long (in New England). The mere thought of wearing a sweatshirt or a sweater would induce a hot flash. Now I have long sleeves, and layer up. Curl up in a fleece in the evening...it's just so weird to me. I almost miss the hot flashes!

    Sneezing

That's often my signal too - a big hiccup!
  11. I use ground flax seed in my morning shake. I use a tablespoon a day. Not sure how that stacks up against using the oil?
  12. I have good days and bad days. I think I'm more aware of it now (vs. pre-op). I have my 3 month follow up in two weeks. I hope I'm on track, lol. I think since it's not so new and exciting to those close around us, it's more "business as usual". The support is there, but it's not like it's talked about like it was in the beginning. I found the monthly support group meeting was re-invigorating. Looking forward to next months meeting. I also feel like I should be further along, but have to come to understand that I probably was a little ambitious with my expectations. 11 weeks and down 18 lbs. (47 overall). I really can't complain!
  13. I used to have so much hair - really...like cray thick hair (lots per square inch). My hair has all ready been thinning for the last year or so (hormones?). But now I've been having A LOT of hair-loss for the past 3 weeks (much sooner than I expected). It's blocking the shower drain (big fur ball)...then when I comb my hair (wide tooth) I end up with a large pile collected in the sink before picking it up and throwing it away. I've stopped blow drying my hair, and have been washing every other day (can't go longer than that). I always get my Protein in, and take my Multivitamins. I really hope this doesn't go on for months, or I truly will go bald!

    Stalling!

You'll be OK. I just had a long stall. It totally sucks and gets in your head. Stick with your program and it WILL come off. My body fights to hold on to everything. I put on weight following WW the last time. And I've lost a bunch of weight with them before. But the last two times, my weight went up..and I was very strict on the plan. Welcome to the 50's I guess, sigh. I don't know about you, but part of my reasoning for having the surgery was so I couldn't walk away from it. I mean, I could choose to eat poorly, but my days of stuffing myself are officially over. If it takes me longer than others to drop the weight, not much I can do about it. One thing I've learned in this short time is that my body is going to do what it's going to do. Ultimately I'm not giving it any choice but to lose weight by following my plan. Hope your stall breaks soon!

    Not bad!

RJ, you have done AWESOME. Some dr's are kind of dopes. Just like any folks. I'm sorry you're still having pain - but I'm glad it wasn't another issue. Hope you're feeling 100% soon!
  16. congrats on breaking the stall! I just broke my first stall too. I'm 9 weeks out and hadn't lost anything since around week 5. I was in that place where I wondered if the surgery worked of me. But it's over (yay) and I have faith that this works, even for me :-) I think I'm better prepared to face the next stall.

    So so so cold!

I didn't feel that right away, but I certainly do now. More so that the weather is getting chilly. I have to make sure I have a light jacket or something to wear as another layer in the office. brrr.
  18. For me, I sure hope so! Honestly, I have no idea. Never thought about it. Curious to see an responses.

    VSG AND HEARTBURN...ANY REGRETS OVERALL?

I developed reflux immediately after surgery. Managed well with omeprazole 20mg twice a day. I don't know if it's a forever thing since I'm still healing and adjusting. Any regrets - as in would I do it again if I knew I'd end up with reflux? I'D DO IT IN A HEARTBEAT. Best thing I've done for myself.
  20. I have a Ninja Pro. Got it at Bed Bath & Beyond using a 20% off coupon. It does a great job, and I use plenty of ice.
  21. At 4 weeks mine was still bothering me. It actually seemed worse. But by 6 weeks I'd forgotten all about it :-) I think it's just the healing process. Just don't over do it.
  22. As far as I know, the questionnaire I completed for the WL center took care of any such requirement. It asked for this information going back 5 years. I did not have to provide "proof", just list everything I tried, when, and what weight I lost (if any). I don't even know if my PCP had to supply anything...it appears that the center took care of everything. I hope it's that simple for you!

    Tailbone after weight loss

same here, LOL. I have a Tempur-Pedic seat cushion. It was stupid $$, but is a needed addition to my work chair. I also try to be conscious of how I'm sitting - making sure my hips are a little forward which keeps me from rolling back on to my tailbone. At night, I have to tuck the bedding between my knees if I'm on my side. I thought it was just me!
