    Eating before your periods

I get this too. I'll have to see if it continues post-op. I'm guessing it will. I'm not very regular, so it can catch me off guard. When it does happen, I call it "the hungry horrors", because the cravings can be so over whelming and it's very frustrating. But also like someone else mentioned, when the day comes I get my period, I totally lose my appetite. Weird.

    Omg... I used a straw

My bariatric team says straws are ok. Just don't drink too fast. Generally speaking I'd stay away from apple juice at 5 days out - calories w/o Protein or Fiber. Juices in general I've been told to avoid. Just my 2 cents Hoping you continue with what appears to be a speedy recovery!

Hi Paula Glad to see you're still doing well!! Lisa
  5. I had lost 7 lbs. since 8/14. Two are back. So that's 5 lbs in a little over two weeks. I'm getting all my Protein and liquids in. At about 700-800 cal a day. I've been walking a couple of miles a day. But nope! It won't let go yet, sigh. I just keep telling myself it will change. It has to! Hang in there!

    Incision Pain

I'm right there with you :-) I went back to work yesterday and did really well. Last night just before bed time I started getting abdominal pain, right side (the side of the biggest incision). It got pretty unconfortable, and I got out of bed and moved to my recliner. It got better. But I was also thinking "gall bladder?". But I'm pretty sure it's just the big incision and maybe I over did it a bit yesterday. It's much better today - still sore, but not like last night. I guess it's just reminding me it's only been two weeks, eh?

good luck with returning to work! Being prepared by bringing something is the way to go Just please be careful lifting. I came back today to a desk job and the dr. put "No heavy lifting" as a restriction on my return to work form. I'm two weeks today.

    STUCK TOO SOON

as they say, it's a marathon not a sprint. You're doing great. Everyone loses at different rates, but it can get wonky in the first few weeks while we're healing. Dont stress over it. Just follow your plan and it will work.

    Crushing Pills

I was able to swallow pills right away (a day or two after surgery). I do have one large pill that I haven't gotten back to taking yet. I wonder the same thing...maybe crush it (it's just really a horse pill). I'll be watching to see how folks make it palatable. I did sprinkle my Biotin in my yogurt this morning, just to see how it would be. No taste change, but really gritty!

@@MaureenS I'm going great! Thanks for asking I have an appt. today with Heather (nut). Not exactly losing much, but I know it will come. It's only two weeks tomorrow. Dr. Brams is so nice. Have been very happy with his care, and the entire team. Glad you're doing well too!
  11. We were told it was OK. Just make sure to control your "sips". It's more a matter of drinking too fast, or too much at once. Some people practically chug when drinking through a straw. Just be mindful. Straws are fine. Also, I've been using a straw with my shakes since I got home from the hospital. No issues.
  12. As @@Teachamy mentioned, you're going to need to stay away from a bunch of things. But I'm betting you'll feel better! I transitioned to GF in April 2013. I did it to see if I'd feel better, because I have always had stomach issues, and the last few years a lot of joint pains, muscle aches, and headaches/migraines. Within a few days I felt so much better. I stuck with it for that reason. If I have gluten, I get ill now. I didn't test positive for celiac's. But gluten and I don't get along. Since I made this change over a year ago, I'd all ready made a lot of changes to my diet. Making staying away from breads, pasta's, etc. part of the norm even if GF. After WLS it's best to avoid these things anyway. Eating "clean" is the best approach IMO. I have also found that a vast majority of Protein shakes/powders are GF. But always double check.

I buy the Imagine brand creamy Soups. I need gluten free, and theirs are.

    Chest pain

sounds like you drank too fast, and maybe the air in the shake didn't help either. Get up and move around, it should help. Try to take small sips. I use a Ninja and there is foam/air...I just take it slow and let it sit a little bit. By the end 90% of the foam is gone.

    For The Females

I got mine early after surgery. That first day after I saw spotting, then a day or so later there she was. It was well over a week early. Between the stress of surgery, and the hormones you're unloading, it's not really a surprise. Either talk to your bariatric support folks (surgeon or NP) or contact your GYN. I tend to think it will just do what it's gonna do and you'll be fine. Just something to put up with for now. good luck!
  16. I was told as long as A) not on pain meds and B.. able to move enough to drive safely - e.g. turn to look around while backing up, etc. It was a week for me, but I wasn't taking pain meds. I was just being lazy :-)

    Immediate stall?

It's so frustrating when you see what other folks lose in the first week or so. But as they say, we're all different and lose differently. I was thinking the same thing...300 cal a day and hardly anything. I had surgery 8/14. I didn't get on the scale for 4 or 5 days because I know I'd freak. Day of surgery I was at 195. I was 193. I figured, yay I've dropped the fluids from the hospital. Since then it's been a crawl. However today I was 188. But I still feel like my tummy is bloated and sticking out. Have you had to take any Fiber or anything? I've been adding benefiber to my yogurt and shakes and after about a week I used some milk of magnesia. It worked thank goodness, But things still aren't moving on their own, I'm just very aware not to get "backed up". I was out and on my feet outside almost all day yesterday and the scale dropped 3 lbs. Practically had tears of joy. I guess the message is, I know how maddening it is to have to fight so hard right off the bat. But it will come off. Your body will figure it out.
  18. yah, I would love to disprove that saying lol You looks fantastic - congrats!

    August Sleevers Check In

I was sleeved on 8/14. Struggled with nausea and some vomiting + dry heaves the first 24 hours after surgery. Took a few tries to find something that helped. So I got an extra night's stay. (In Thurs. and out Saturday). The few days following I kept getting stomach/chest/back pains that came and went. I was expecting the incisions to bug me but not this. And this really hurt :-( So after a rough night Monday night, I called the dr.'s first thing Tuesday. I was asked if I could come in. So of course I did. Initial exam was fine. No real alarm bells per se, but they ordered some blood work and an ESD. By the time I was done, the Dr. had the results and ends up I developed acid reflux. (I actually saw it on the ESD) Never had any issues before. The acid could also have been behind the nausea in the hospital. So my PPI was doubled and I was told I could take Tums if also needed. It's believed that this will go away as the swelling goes away. Hope so! So now I'm doing fine. Getting all of my protein and fluids in. Definitely getting tired of yogurt, apple sauce, and protein shakes all ready, lol. Just 2.5 weeks until pureed :-)

    Painkillers

I think I got some tylenol via IV. Then I got a dose of morphine my second night. I was sent home with a script of Oxycondon. I didn't have a pain pump.

Thanks Motherof5, It would be amazing if I reached goal that fast! Not that I wouldn't be happy about it lol. I figure 60 in 6 months would be great. I've read that folks with less to lose tend to lose slower. As long as it keeps going down, I'll be happy!

    August Sleevers Check In

Here I am day 2 post op. The first day was rough. Lots of nausea and vomiting/heaves. Kept giving me different meds to help with the nausea. This morning awoke feeling better (thank you morphine). Having some chicken broth and tea now. Have all ready drank a cup of water. Hope to get the IV out soon. All goes well I'll be released this afternoon. Would have been smooth sailing if it weren't for feeling to sick. But I guess that happens some times. Just happy to be on the other side :-)

  25. Totally. In a way it's a good thing, I think. But long term "we" need to be able to stick with this kind of commitment. Maybe not the same level of um...obsession, but totally committed to what it's about. It's been hard not to only be about the surgery around anyone that knows. Trying to have a normal life around family, while my thoughts are else where. It will become normal, i'm sure.
