    Venting About Poor Forum Etiquette

Ok I agree with all of you that this is just a forum and not Harvard or a business class........but........it's not just this forum I'm particularly referring to. I actually had to put effort into creating a poorly written paragraph because I use proper grammar everywhere else. It's habit. So if they're writing like this on this forum, it's my opinion this is how they are presenting themselves in all aspects. I don't believe in coddling people and their ignorance because they never had an opportunity to learn. The world is at their fingertips and if they don't know they're doing something wrong, they can't fix it. Encouraging it to continue because "they don't know better" does more harm than good.

I have to add one more thing about the grammar. It's not typos or misspellings that bug me, it’s mostly the misuse of words (an for and) or the sentences/questions that never end. Use a period for crying out loud! Ok, that’s all for that. Babbs....totally agree

    Venting About Poor Forum Etiquette

I Ok, you have a good point about those that might not be as comfortable with search options or computer savvy knowledge. That I can overlook. And actually, the main thing that bugs me is that we could all benefit from keeping some threads concentrated into one thread instead of 15 different ones. If everyone posted their opinion on one thread, then everyone on that thread could see it. But if some post here, and some post there, and some more post over there, then we may not see everything and could be missing out on valuable information. I try to respond or read a lot of them even if they are repeats, and I've seen a few others that do the same. I just wish we could centralize some of the main topics I guess. I love the new forum about stalls, that's a perfect example of what I'm talking about. It may be multiple threads, but at least there is a central location to discuss something almost everyone questions at some point. Maybe in the future more will pop up like that as topics become obvious (i.e. To weigh or not to weigh)

@@emma4884 I have to disagree with your statement about not having the opportunity to learn. If they have the internet available to post on this site, they have the internet available to learn. It is a lack of effort and laziness on their part that results in posts similar to my example. Ignorance is not an excuse when we have a world of knowledge at our fingertips. That being said, I am not "offended" by people for mistakes or errors when it's obvious care was taken to present a readable post. Even reading your post it's obvious you took care to complete your sentences and use proper punctuation. I believe if you are going to be present in an online community, it is only appropriate to do these things. This is no different than dressing for work or church or any other social function. Our posts on this forum are the visual representation of ourselves. I agree people don't need more criticism than they already receive. That is why I stated I don't respond to those post and instead I vented about it in the rants and raves section without calling anyone out. Yes, I hope 1 or 2 of those posters may see my post and realize their mistakes. But they may do that privately without fear of judgement.

HAAAAHAHAHAHA!!!! B-pal kept freezing on me so I typed that in word and copied/paste. I guess the numbers didn't paste over correctly and I didn't catch it. See, I'm not perfect Will edit now to fix.

    BMI

That's about as vague as asking what's a good day? BMI for women? BMI for men? BMI for a teenager, senior, adult, child? BMI for athletes? Need a little more detail to answer that question. Google is pretty good at vague though so I would suggest starting there if you dont' have more info.

    Warrior Dash

I'm signed up for the Warrior Dash June 6th in Charlotte, NC. It's my first time doing anything like this!!! My 63 yr old mother is doing it with me. You can walk around the obstacles if their too tough. I plan to do them all but at least I know she won't hurt herself.

I listen to iTunes Radio. The Dance Workout station. Like you said, it's upbeat and fast paced. My gym has free wifi so I can stream and have different music to every workout.

@@Isabela Macedo It will depend if you're on an employer health plan or private. If it's just private, see the link I posted earlier in this thread for the policy. If it's through your employer, you will have to meet their guidelines as well. I had my surgery 11/19/14 and the process was fairly easy. I met all my surgeons requirements and got approval on first letter. I was paying a ton in private insurance premiums but just counting out of pocket medical expense, my entire surgery including all the test cost $1500. Your surgeon may have their own diet plan you are required to follow.

    Protein options

I swear by the Isopure zero carb RTD. It's kinda like drinking paper because there's 40 g of protein in 20 oz but worth it. I can't stand shakes with milk so I try to stick to the clear protein drinks. Cytosport Whey Isolate is another good one. You could also try using almond milk instead of regular milk.

    I BINGED

Before I vent with my post, know that I am fully accepting responsibility for my actions, and even posting this is a way for me to own up to that. I do not expect you to be "nice" or "polite" about any response you may feel like writing. Feel free to give me every low-down, gritty detail of whatever your opinion may be about this. I'm a big girl (still) I can handle it. For whatever reason, maybe cause I'm PMS'ing, I ended up binging on calories & carbs yesterday. I saw it happen as I put everything I ate into myfitnesspal and I slyly justified every bit of it in my head one way or another. Here's what I ate yesterday. Sugar loaded coffee creamer - 147 cals / 14 carbs Prune juice - 85 cals / 22 carbs pizza - ate one slice at 3 different times during the day. - 169 cals / 6 carbs Turkey sandwich on a whole wheat sandwich thin with provolone cheese, yellow mustard, and light Dukes Mayo - 295 cals / 25 carbs Homemade meatloaf - 291 cals / 18 carbs Ketchup - 40 cals / 10 carbs Larabar cashew cookie mini - 100 cals / 10 carbs Red delicious apple - 22 cals / 6 carbs Peanut Butter with that apple - 190 cals / 8 carbs Total for the day - 1434 calories, 123g carbs, 63g fat, and only 74g protein!!! What a horrible day. Thankfully, that is the only time I have binged like that since surgery but it's no excuse. PMS isn't an excuse either. THERE IS NO EXCUSE! Back on the wagon today. Looking at everything I ate, I don't think I ate "unhealthy" except for the pizza. But it's still too much for where I'm at post op. And no, I did not get my fluids in. If I had pushed fluids like I was supposed to, I wouldn't have had time to eat all that food. On top of that, the day before I only ate 750 calories and 75 g Protein. I had been on a losing streak until this day. I always slump when I don't get enough calories. So it was a bad weekend all around. But, like I said, I'm back on track today. I have no one to blame but myself. Heading to the gym tonight for some intense cardio then home to kick my butt on my total gym. Ok, there it is. My binge confession.

    So disappointed

@BLERDgirl did you read the article I posted the link to? Totally confirms what you said about different kinds of carbs and why some are better than others. Just thought you'd like it if you didn't read it already. I didn't know some people were cleared for anything other than walking that early. Seems like a rush to me BUT in my case, my stitches wouldn't desolve. At my 6 week check up, I was still trying to get my incisions to close. They actually had to reopen them to cut out the stitches. After that they finally started healing and I could start moving around easier. Still amazes me the different ways docs do things lol.
  17. OMG that looks fun. Just signed up to get the news about registration opening for the NC runs. Thanks for showing me that!!!
  18. I'm not a fan of reality TV (except cooking shows ironically) but I did sign up for The Warrior Dash this June. Would have never considered it before!! It's motivating me to train and I'm raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at the same time. On the note of reality shows, I have had other family members have WLS this past year as well. Collectively we have lost almost 500 pounds. I think we should go on My 600 lb life as a group and make a fortune being models afterwards lol. Anyone else?

    So disappointed

I'm surprised you're doing that much exercise this early. Most docs that I've heard about recommend only walking programs until 6 weeks out. I agree with everyone about the low carb vs. low fat. Generally, low fat foods are higher in carbs. Here is a great article that breaks down where our calories come from. This will help understand why something low-fat is higher carb. http://blog.myfitnesspal.com/ask-the-dietitian-is-a-calorie-a-calorie-2/ Also, it looks like you're averaging a little over 3 pounds a week. That's no small feat and you should be proud. Compared to a lot of people on here you're starting weight isn't that high. That's why you shouldn't compare your weight loss with others. The more you have to lose, the faster you lose. In one month you've lost 14% of your excess body weight (based on your starting & goal weights). THAT'S AMAZING!!! Pat yourself on the back. If you really want to compare, at 4 weeks out, I had lost 16% of my excess body fat since surgery. For me that was about 25 pounds. See how comparing does no good? This is your journey and you're already off to a great start. If you're mom is asking you everyday how much you've lost (my mom does this), just stop telling her a number. She'll get the hint. You're body is still healing so just stick with the program and focus on that. Make sure you get your fluids and if you can, your Protein. Good luck to you! We're proud of you

    Post OP Protein

I swear by Nature's Best Isopure RTD drinks with 40 G Protein. It's lactose & gluten free, easier on the stomach than shakes, and not as sweet. Trust me, you'll get sick of the artificial sweeteners in a lot of the shakes so have an alternative on hand. Good Luck!

    Cardio on Vacation

@@JamieLogical My immediate response was going to be jumping jacks but then i caught the last line of your post so...... I subscribed to fitstar. There are a few great workout apps out there. They have free workouts too so you don't have to start a subscription just for this weekend. Anyways, there are some great routines in there and you can set it to avoid jumping or anything else you don't want. I think you can definitely find something that will do for the weekend. BTW - Kudos to you! If I were going away for the weekend, I don't know that I would have the dedication to go to this much trouble just to avoid missing my cardio a few days. Proud of you!

    questions about surgery

@@Elode just made me realize you said recovery room! Yea, no. Nobody was allowed in my recovery room for the same reason. There were other patients in there and it was a privacy/quiet issue. I kinda wish someone had been in there because even though we told my team MANY times that they needed to put my cpap mask on me in recovery, they didn't. We even gave them MY MASK before I went into surgery so they would have it ready for me. They put the oxygen tube on instead which yes has some pressure, but it's not sealed. I kept waking up while coming out of anesthesia choking because I couldn't breath. They kept telling me I was breathing fine. No Sh*t Sherlock, if I'm awake I'm breathing! It's when I wasn't awake that I started choking. I finally managed to gasp the words "cpap mask" to get them to see what was going on. After that it was all good. Not trying to scare you by telling you all this. But if you have any issues like sleep apnea, go over and over it with your team and make sure they know what you'll need.

    questions about surgery

    1. Yes you'll have a catheter. Mine was pulled out morning after surgery. 2. I was in the hospital two day and I stayed in a gown both days. I did have a robe I wore to walk around in and some pajama pants. Because of the IV I couldn't change shirts that easily. If you're truly uncomfortable, talk to your nurses and maybe they can help. Other people's experience may be different. 3. My husband stayed with me the entire time. I'm sure it's just like regular visiting hours except for 1-2 family members. Probably depends on your hospital's policy.
