  1. I don't think I'd try Peanut Butter, PB2 sounds good. I made the mistake of eating frozen yogurt and was in severe pain after, so I think I'd wait to do that again! I do have once a day Welch's Diet peach juice mostly because I don't eat much and what I do eat just sits in my stomach so it increases my caloric intake and helps that gurgling sound my stomach makes all day. Mostly the super sweet stuff doesn't sit well anyway after a couple weeks my sense of smell and taste have become more enhanced which is good and bad.

Social Life - Need Help from Veterans!

If your friends are anything like mine, they won't notice! Mine noticed the weight loss but after they had a few drinks they haven't noticed my dietary and drinking habits at all. I had my surgery July 3rd and have been out on the boat with groups 3 times, one concert, a wedding, 2 bars and yes a restaurant and a camping trip, work was a little hard because we are grazers so I just go in and look at the food and talk with people then leave, it's been interesting. I excuse myself when I need to go and drink a shake and no one is the wiser. I feel supported in my efforts and will tell them with a little time. Good luck, you can do this!
  4. I would love any suggestions this group can offer about what to eat during the soft food phase. I will start my pureed and soft foods next week and I am really nervous. I've been on liquids for 7 weeks and feel pretty good but want to make sure I get enough Protein and Vitamins without upsetting my stomach or causing nausea. I'm used to eating at the same time every day and not ingesting solid food. I will start vitamins next week too and would like suggestions and ideas about how to cook, prepare and eat foods that will not hurt my new tummy. Any ideas would be helpful????
  5. Good to know, thanks for sharing.

    JULY 2014 SLEEVERS GROUP

I didn't lose any weight my first 3 days, in part because the IV they give us fills us up with liquids. For me I was on Protein day one and that causes a little back up as well. It's been 12 days since my surgery now and I've lost 12 lbs since surgery now. totally normal I've red a lot of other people experiencing that as well.

Wow, I can't start exercise until next week! I do a little walking. sounds like you're on track! Awesome, keep it up July sleevers, so far everyone is doing really well from what I've red to far!
  8. Thanks, I think I will start with eggs, they seem safe. Lol
  9. Very helpful! Thank you, any advice will help. I over think things, not always a bad thing, but I crave fish and chicken but someone had an open can of fish at costco and I couldn't handle it.

    JULY 2014 SLEEVERS GROUP

    Yikes, are you okay now?
  11. That's to bad, I have sleep apnea and I'm not sure what they may have done differently but they were aware of it and it is way better to be safe in this situation! It will probably help your recovery to once you get used to the CPAP. Best of luck to you!

    lied about my surgery :/

I do not believe your boss needs to know what surgery you are having. I agree he must be misinformed about process and protocol. I didn't take anytime off although I did tell them that I had a surgery scheduled and would let them know if I would need time off based on the outcome. read your states policy and hippa regs that will help.

6 months out and HICUPS.... anyone? LOL

I get one hiccup that's when I know to stop. I knew that there was a little tell tell sign, I have a friend that get's this cute sneeze when she's full and another friend who has a belch. I really wanted to have a cute sneeze or something adorable but this 1 hiccup isn't so bad.

    What was your surgery time?

I had to be there at 8 am and I was bumped because the person ahead of me had an emergency, I told them to please take their time, I told them I wasn't leaving with my entire stomach still attached so I had all the time in the world for that patient to get the care he needed! I don't even remember the rest of the day. I was up every hour walking with the nurses and weaned off the pain killers through the night. I was ready!!!!

Who really followed the post-op diet?

I followed 100% for a month as well, to scared not to. Now I'm a week away from pureed foods and really nervous. The only time I've been hungry has all been in my head. Now I see what I used to put into my stomach and cannot imagine ever doing it again. I've been lucky with no complications and healing well after 2 weeks! I kept imagining if I cheated DR. would see it in my stomach as he was removing it. I also knew after my gall bladder was taken out how tender your liver is and if it wasn't lean it will hurt, this didn't hurt nearly as much! Good luck it's worth it.
  16. I was extremely nervous, I even had a panic attack a month before surgery. Then one day I came to a place of peace, determined to Live again and stave off disease for as long as I can. you will know if it's right! I felt the risk of not having it was much higher! Good luck I wish you the very best! BTW easier than childbirth in my opinion.

    Intetesting observation

I had the same experience and I think all of the above is true. I also noticed when I was wearing my oversized close for comfort it was more difficult to tell, but we had our company picnic yesterday and I wore new clothes and everybody noticed. I couldn't be happier with the results thus far.

    JULY 2014 SLEEVERS GROUP

Hi July Sleevers, It seems like we are all so different, gpippin66 I think it's amazing your Dr. was able to help you! I had mine July 3rd and am doing exceptionally well. walking helps with that pumped in surgery air and mine seems to be dissipating. I only have a little pain and am working through it. My starting weight was 316 lbs when I started this process and as of today I am at 258lbs and cannot believe that sounds so good. I've been on Liquids since memorial day and have 2 weeks to go, I cannot wait to make changes but fear it at the same time. I look forward to your success stories and any suggestions as our diets change. I'm not sure how to puree meat I would love suggestions since it sounds like most people are going to solids sooner than later? I went back to work right away and still feel a little tired but I cannot complain at all, this will have saved my life by staving off disease. Really any suggestions as you move to soft foods and pureed meat would be helpful, I'ma planner.

    Quest Bars- How Often?

Ok what are Quest bars and where do I get some? This might be the right group to ask because I am planning for my summer trips and will be starting pureed meats and soft foods in 2 weeks any suggestions about pureed meat? I know it's early but I'm a planner and would love ANY suggestions you have. Thanks

    Looking for July Sleevers!

Good luck today NavyMom6 and thenerdie, you will get through today and feel like a new woman tomorrow.
  23. Vixynne you have renewed my motivation! you look awesome and sound like you are completely satisfied with the results! your one year anniversary was my surgery date too. Can't wait until July 4th 2015! I'm glad to hear you have no regrets.
  24. I'm encouraged by your posts. I'm 4 days post op and doing well. no pain meds for 2 days no nausea. I had a drain tube and a hernia repaired, drain tube was removed the next day and left the hospital. I was nervous until the day of and came to a place of peace. I am up walking and back to work. A little tired and winded after walking. I lost 53 lbs pre surgery and now I feel stuck and can't believe my expectations are so high but I know when I get to exercise it's going to be so much better. I was having a little panic about not getting enough liquids to satisfy my thirst but feel there had been some progress every day. It's 100 + degrees outside and I want to stay cool and keep hydrated. The truth is I'm cooler now than I would have been 53 lbs ago. Keep posting, I find inspiration through your personal stories to keep me motivated.
