Hello ladies I used Dr. Rantis (the Kane center) for my sleeve and he did an awesome job!! I love that doctor and that group...I originally was going to go with the Lapband but I had a talk with Rantis and here I am sleeved! I do not regret it at all! I'm 3 wks post op (yesterday) and am down 27 lbs. I would look into the Kane center if you are from the Chicagoland/suburbs area...they are GREAT & treat you with respect.

That's a lot of carbs. The biggest part of being successful with this surgery is changing how we eat. You may want to figure out a way to modify the staples to fit your plan of Protein, veggies then carbs. ( all your examples are centered around carbs) For example, you could try and find baked Beans a little lower in sugars, eat the hamburger and cheese and leave out the macaroni in your portion, PB2 on apples instead on PB and bread, use zucchini noodles in place of Pasta with your spaghetti.
Google bariatric recipes and there are tons of good websites out there with delicious high Protein /low carb recipes. I like Bariatricfoodie.blogspot.com. Check out the nutrition sub forum on here for other good links.

I think sometimes people forget this forum is multicultural and is made of people from all walks of life. I am offend by the comments and I am not Latina; however I live in a Latin American country. That was a very bigoted statement and unfortunately because we are on a forum people feel the need to say what ever they feel no matter who's feelings are affected. I have seen posts from particular individual on VST and I try to stay clear. I am reporting this post.-

Well, I have to say that was not a very Christian statement. To redeem our sister in the faith let me offer some scriptures for guidance:
    Galatians 3:28
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
    1 John 2:9
Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness.
    James 2:9
But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors.
    John 13:34
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.
Also, I have to say going to Mexico to get my sleeve was my first trip to that country and although I was nervous crossing the border, I had a great experience and found the Mexican people to be some of the nicest and friendliest I've ever met. I don't regret my decision and hope one day I can go back on leisure to enjoy the beauty of the land and the people.
    God Bless all God's people

"Fudge"sicles Good for Full liquid or blended stage Supplies - Blender (I use a Magic Bullet) Popsicle Mold or small paper cups and popsicle sticks Ingredients - 1-2 Frozen ripe bananas Almond milk/ Soy milk/ Fat Free Milk powdered chocolate Peanut Butter (PB2 or Just Great Stuff) Optional: vanilla or chocolate Protein powder (this might make them taste a little proteiny...or strange) (I eye-ball the amounts to taste and consistency) Blend frozen bananas, milk and powdered chocolate Peanut Butter until perfect smooth. It should be the consistency of a thick milkshake (in fact, if you are craving ice cream...this would be a great substitute) Pour mixture into molds, insert popsicle stick and freeze for several hours. The bananas don't need any extra sugar and the powdered chocolate peanut butter make them taste really rich! Enjoy!

I was nervous too about losing a major portion of my stomach, but really, it's the best decision I could have made. Just the relief at not feeling hungry all the time is wonderful. I can focus on things other than when my next meal is going to be
I found this site a few weeks prior to surgery, and honestly, reading on here made me positive I'd made the right decision. Even those who had complications were still more than happy with the procedure. And I was tired of always being the fat one sitting on the sidelines. I wanted to be the energetic one that has Energizer Bunny levels of energy...just keeps going and going and going...

    I just love her!
Well we can look at it from another perspective. She wouldve been good at comedy at any weight. So is her character completely related to being big? Some jokes are made sure. But some skinny people perpetually play similar characters. Mr Bean. Adam Sandler. Sandra Bullock. The Saturday night live cast.

I love melissa mcarthy! Shes a comedian and is making her way in this world the best way she can. I for one love her talent and she makes me laugh. She's an actress , she's doing what she does and her being fat is just who she is. Other comedians have their nitch and she's got hers! I don't find her insulting, she accepts herself and is happy with who she is!!

Boy are they in for a surprise....of course, once successful you will always have those who are spiteful out of jealousy and envy....
So one cannot win. In the end it's all about you and what you do for yourself....everything else will follow and fall into place....it will become the "New Normal"

BarntruckCutie reacted to Menelly in What do you miss most after Weight Loss Surgery?
I went to the informational seminar the other night, and they mentioned you can never have soda. Ever ever again! I'm actually doubting my decisions because I love soda so much... He said that probably 90% of his patients that gain weight back admit to soda use. That's not worth it to me, but... still...
What do you miss most now that you've had surgery done? Is it possible to live life without soda? What else are you living without that you truly miss?

BarntruckCutie reacted to Brooklyn732 in Sleeve For My Asperger Son?
My opinion is that this is NOT the thing for you son right now. The sleeve is a tool for weight loss. It is NOT the answer to weight loss. I can tell that you are a very concerned parent who wants the best for her child, but the sleeve will not help your son if he doesn't get control of his eating habits. If he binge eats the way you describe, he could do severe damage to his sleeve and to his health. Do you think he could do the all liquid diet? Why don't you try having him do a "pre-op" or "post-op" diet for a few weeks and see if he can handle that. If he shows that he can handle it then maybe you should look into it further. But him getting sleeved without resolving the food behaviors will result in failure.
    This is just my opinion.
I wish you and your son the best of luck!!

I recommend trying different Protein shakes until you find one you like. You will be drinking a lot of them during the course of your gastric sleeve journey. I like the Premier Protein (chocolate and Strawberry) from costco. GNC has a lot of different flavors and will exchange any that you don't like the taste of. Having 60+ grams of Protein per day is important for weight loss and healing from the surgery! Good luck on your VGS journey!

Personally for me, I didn't want the RNY because I did not want them to touch my intestines. I probably wouldn't have had the surgery if that was my only option. There are also a number of problems with certain foods afterwards and I did not want that dumping syndrome.
