    When to take vitamins?

I haven't had the surgery yet but I take a Multivitamin and several other supplements and I find them most beneficial in the morning or around lunch because they tend to give me a boost. Take them with a meal because some will make your stomach hurt if its empty.

    Birth control questions!

Call your surgeon's office and ask them if you are ok to start taking it again. I'm sure if you are healed it should be no problem. The only issues I ever have with BC is the initial start back or change over to a new script the couple of weeks of hormonal rollercoaster, low levels of estrogen are a side effect of my PCOS so when there is a change my body is like whoa whoa whoa, but I think that the positives that it brings like the antibaby effects and helping the PCOS symptoms are worth a couple of weeks on a rollercoaster. =)

    Mirrors and pictures

You can respectfully ask them to not use your pictures. My office has a horrible habit of taking pictures of people randomly, especially during potlucks and more times than not there will end up being a picture of me shoving food into my mouth and I hate it. I always delete the pictures of me off of the shared drive, however they do still exist. Our PR person started using our random photos for various things such as slide shows she was showing people to advertise what we do, and then wanted to create a collage of photos to put in our reception area and I finally told her that I would appreciate if it was possible for my pictures not to be used and that I knew others felt that way as well. She hadn't even thought about it and emailed everyone and asked them to let her know if she had their permission to use their photos for advertising, etc and several people said they would prefer she didn't. She didn't even realize how insensitive it was to just use our pictures, especially some really bad ones without even asking us. But yeah, I HATE candid photos of me. I don't spend much time in the mirror except to get ready for work in the morning.

    Catty Colleagues

It kind of sounds like the one who you did trust to tell told the others. I wouldn't talk to any of them about it anymore and let them be bitter and jealous. People will always try to bring you down, don't even feed their fire by telling them and talking to them about it. That is possibly part of why they are acting like this if they do know you told the one person and not them, possibly a bit put out you didn't trust them too... but it is obvious you were right not to!
  5. @@JG7882 for sure, keep me up to date as well. I actually have a 6 month diet per my insurance so I won't be able to do mine until the beginning of next year. Let me know how everything goes. Good luck! One thing that he said that kind of struck me was "you are going to be freaking skinny", I haven't been "skinny" since I was like 10 so it was kinda boost, my goal isn't to be skinny, its to feel better and healthy but it was still nice to hear. He's very upbeat and motivating. Feel free to PM me on here any time too =D
  6. Hello!! I am going to North Florida Regional Medical Center for my seminar next Friday 3/16, and that is when they are going to ask me to chose my surgeon. A lot of people seem to recommend Dr. Timothy Hipp and he has been my first choice. However, I see they have a new surgeon as well, Dr. Geoffrey Roelant from Ohio State University Medical Center. Does anyone here have any experience with Dr. Roelant?

    Catty Colleagues

In my experience people will be catty about weight no matter how you try to lose it. Its really bad at my office too. There are a couple of diet dr's in town and every time someone starts going to one people start whispering and betting on how long it will last, same thing for weight watchers, going for walks on breaks, etc. One of my coworkers had a bypass a few years ago and everyone is constantly watching her and ridiculing her for what she eats and when she puts weight back on (which is why I'm not telling anyone at my work). But yeah, I think people are even meaner about the surgery because they are aholes, no not really, but because people like to share the bad stories more than the good ones, people tend to feed on negativity, I hadn't heard a single surgery success story until I started researching it for myself, all I've ever heard is how bad it is and how everyone gains the weight back. Anyway, for some reason females feel the need to put each other down instead of lift each other up. It's like some feel like they are entitled to being judgmental jerks for some reason. Hold your head up and prove them wrong.
  8. @@JG7882 Dr. Roelant was very nice and professional, and funny. I told the nurse, Pam, I had some anxiety because apparently the blood pressure machine was thrown off by it, lol, so they made me feel much better and the whole experience of the consult was good.

    Non-NSAIDs Pain Relievers

I had a consult with my surgeon today, and he said that he usually releases his sleeve patients to use NSAIDs after a couple of months, and recommended Celebrex. So that made me feel better because the topic has been almost a make or break the deal for me. He expects that once I lose a lot of the weight I won't be in much pain anymore anyways and will not need them as often, which is what I'm hoping for! I appreciate everyone's feedback here.
  10. So in my orientation today they told us that we would no longer be able to take NSAIDs after surgery, forever, because they cause erosion. This kind of worries me because at the moment I live off of prescription ibuprofen and naproxen due to scoliosis and a plethora of other issues. The nurse suggested tylenol, however I know that doesn't touch the pain. Anyone have any luck with finding more options for non-NSAIDs meds? Even script. I'd like to read about them. I know that hopefully my aches and pains will alleviate with the weight loss, however I'd like to be educated just in case. THANKS!
  11. @@JG7882 I picked Roelant as well. They told me he is very nice and personable. My consult with him is tomorrow, I will let you know how it goes. =)
  12. The kind of acceptance I would like to see is people stopping caring whether or not people are fat, thin, or what, whether they want to change their body or not and just treating each other like humans. The fat acceptance movement like that girl posted about is super extreme, it is just as bad as skinny people being so mean to fat people.
  13. When she starts making comments just tell her that you do not want to talk about it anymore. I have a friend being like that and that topic of conversation is now off limits with her. Try not to let anyone's ignorance and insecurities about the subject cause you so much distress. You are doing what you know is right for you.
  14. The way I did it was by going to my profile and then clicking on "edit my profile" and it is on the first editing screen that pops up.
  15. That is awesome! The nut where I am having mine holds them every so often as well and said people in all stages go, I am thinking about attending. =D
  16. Sounds like you are at that point where you are just sick and tired of being sick and tired, like a lot of the rest of us. In the end your happiness and health are the most important thing, I'm glad it sounds like you are ready to just do this for you no matter what everyone else thinks. Hopefully your partner will come around once it's all said and done and support you in recovery, if not, his loss.

    Non-NSAIDs Pain Relievers

I don't know, that is what the nurses said today when they were going over the sleeve, I asked "Forever?" and she said yes, much to my dismay. She did say no more NSAIDs for the bypass and Lap-Band as well. I did search on here and see some people's surgeons cleared them to continue to use them after surgery, so I guess it depends on the surgeon. However since this particular hospital has been doing the WLS surgeries for over 30 years I tend to want to listen to them. I have been putting off getting cortisone shots as well, in my hips.

hmmm a cream sounds interesting. I'm going to talk to my PCP on Monday and ask him what options I have too, I'll post if he has any suggestions.
  22. I've been told by the majority of my friends in the past that I should not get weight loss surgery, so I'm not even talking to them about it now that I have decided to do it because I do not need that kind of negativity. I listened to everyone else for too many years and tried without success to do it on my own. I only have 3 people supporting me in my real life, I love the support here. I think if you have the resolve that you are doing this for your health and it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks about it, then you can succeed. Your health is what is most important no matter what anyone thinks about how you chose to get there. You will have tons of cheerleaders here.

    Long term results

I'm not really talking to people about it because I already know that is the kind of feedback I am going to get, people love to share horror stories. Not everything is going to work for everyone, and people who do not continue to live a healthy lifestyle are not going to succeed.
