  1. First, it seems to me that you are doing really well, you've lost over 6% of your body weight! That's great!! I haven't discussed this with my current nutritionist, but in the past with other nutritionists on other programs. There is a basic math to weight loss. Since I'm in the US we use pounds not kilograms, but I'm sure it could be converted. The average woman uses 11 calories per pound per day to maintain body weight. Every time you consume less than you burn, you use some stored fat. When you get to 3500 of stored fat burned calories you lose a pound of fat. Remember though that a calorie is NOT a calorie. You need to get the right mix of proteins, carbs and fats to maintain health first. So most of us are told to get 60-80 grams of protein per day first. Now all that adds up to, yes, the less you weigh the harder it is to get that 3500 calories lost. Example: at 300 pounds x 11 calories = 3300 calories per day to maintain body weight at 200 pounds x 11 calories = 2200 calories per day to maintain body weight If both women consume 1200 calories per day, the 300 pound woman will lose a pound of fat in about 1.5 days, the 200 pound woman will lose a pound of fat in about 3.5 days. Fat is only one component of weight loss, additionally, some people retain water, others lose muscle or bone mass. So the nutrition thing is really important. Then you can burn additional calories with exercise, and build muscle mass that way. Let me also state that I am NOT a nutritionist, but over my 49 years of dieting (joined weight watchers for the first time when I was 10), I have learned a few things. I just never learned how to apply them to me. Good luck!

    Scared

It is a wonderful thing that you are doing for yourself. You will feel better very soon. Just start walking as soon as they let you. That really helps. Good luck!
  4. Have a good day! My best advice is to get up and walk as soon as they let you. I hope you got some sleep!

    Skin removal

I, personally, have not done this yet, but at the bariatric surgery support group I go to had a plastic surgeon come in to talk to us about the procedures available and show some photos of people who have had various procedures. The plastic surgeon brought his insurance specialist with him. She said we should get our primary care physician (PCP) to begin documenting the rashes/sores and then, if possible to see a dermatologist. According to her, if you try the less invasive procedures along the way, it is much easier for her to get the insurance approvals. Although you haven't been to your surgeon, I hope you have been seeing your PCP. I would also call your bariatric surgeon's office to see if they could recommend a plastic surgeon who has worked with his/her patient's successfully. Good Luck!

    Liver shrinkage

Well, MzGee, I have good news, the surgery really helps. I know I wouldn't have believed anyone else before the procedure, so I hesitate to say it. All that good anxiety (and food funeral) wasted. I find I can eat almost any type of food, just a much smaller portion and I can breathe a whole lot better. So, take a deep breath and do what the doctor and nutritionist tell you to do, so you can get to a better place! Good luck!
  7. Thanks for the reminder. I have used cauliflower in place of potatoes and rice in the past, but I haven't in recent years. I guess I'll try it again!

    Thinking about all the changes

The thing that surprised me the most, was that I don't have the constant "noise" in the back of my head telling me that I'm hungry. The surgeon said that would probably last a year, which should give me enough time to build new and better habits. I agree with Katcloudshepard that there are issues in my head that also need to be worked on. I have been working with a psychologist to try to get to this "stuff". As a result, one of my co-workers has reported that I have less patience in meetings, oh well. I am on a path that will make me healthier and happier, and I guess if that means that I am a little quicker with my tongue, I don't think that will actually hurt anyone. Good luck to all of us!

Best multivitamin for early post op

I used the chewable from Opurity, they can be purchased on the unjury website. They also have a chewable Calcium. My nutritionist likes them, and they tasted okay to me.

    Liver shrinkage

When I first went to the surgeon I weighed 307, the last visit before the surgery I weighed 318, the day of the surgery I weighed 310. I never asked why there wasn't a pre-surgery diet required. I was just glad there wasn't. I admire those of you with the strength to do that. I was so anxious about doing this I was constantly eating.

    Liver shrinkage

My surgeon did not require a pre-op diet. Just a two-day fast right before the surgery, similar to a colonoscopy. So, I guess my liver didn't get in his way as the surgery went just fine.

    After surgery

My nutritionist gave me a shopping list, so I'll repeat some of it here. However, you might want to check with your nutritionist as we all seem to have slightly different programs. Pill Crusher - only necessary if you will need to continue taking your pills Chewable Multi-vitamins NO GUMMY Chewable Calcium with vitamin D Protein Supplement Shakes (> 15 gm of protein < 6 gm of sugar) Food Processor / Blender Baby Food (hi protein) Banana (ripe) Broth (instant/canned) Chicken/Ground Beef (must be put in blender) Chicken - canned Cottage Cheese (low-fat) Cream of Wheat cereal (make with milk) Eggs Fish (fresh or canned) Greek Yoghurt Skim Milk No added sugar puddings, ice pops Applesauce fruit-only (no added sugar) Diet Snapple, G2, Vitamin Water Zero, Tea Bags I don't have a Walmart or a Costco near where I live, so I bought my protein shakes online at Unjury.com, that's also where I got my chewable vitamins and calcium. Hope this is helpful. Good luck!

    Ice cream?

Enjoy! and let us know if it was delicious!

    Ice cream?

Is ice cream one of the foods you can have a little of? For me, it's like when an alcoholic says they can have one drink. One spoon of ice cream would make me lose my self control, therefore it wouldn't be worth it. Only you can know if you can handle it. Also, my nutritionist encourages me to try "new foods" at home first. Not everything is as easy to digest!

    3 weeks post op

So, you're human. We all slip up, either in big ways or small ones. Now you know what the price is. I'm going to guess that you won't want that feeling again. I know I didn't. Follow the rules you got from your doctor and your nutritionist, and the next time you want to do something way outside the guidelines check what else is going on. Very often people who have eating issues are reacting to something else going on in their life. It's one of the very many avoidance techniques. My psychologist has suggested a "food and mood journal". Instead of just writing what you eat, write who you are eating with and what else is going on. As patterns emerge, you can deal with them. Please forgive yourself for making a mistake and start back with your healthy eating habits. Good luck to you!

    What was your surgery time?

Well, my check in time was scheduled for 3:00 PM, and when I got there I learned that we had been bumped for an emergency. I didn't have my surgery until 9:00 PM. However, since then everything has gone according to plan.

Good morning! - today's weight is 271. Thanks for keeping track.
  22. Does Unjury have one that is unflavored? One that I can just add to yogurt or something? I really don't want to get into a habit of using a blender all the time and can't drink just shaken milk or Water added to powder type shakes, but if I can mask it into cottage cheese or yogurt without it tasting raunchy, I'd do it! They do have an unflavored option. I confess that I haven't tried it. I don't mind mixing milk with the chocolate and vanilla. If you try it, let know how it is.
  23. I use unjury and order from their website, unjury.com. It comes both in larger containers and individual packets. I find the individual packets easier to carry around. That being said, I'm really jealous of your trip. Have an awesome time!

    Muscle cramps

A lot of people have them, however they often indicate that a nutrient is missing. You should check with your doctor. I am taking an extra magnesium supplement. I also have to do some stretching exercises for my legs before bed. Your doctor should be able to advise you. Hope you feel better soon.
