1.
You have a long time still to research the RNY. Why did your surgeon suggest that? That would be a great place to start. I did my research too and picked RNY and my surgeon concurred so it was a no brainer for me. He/She must have had reasons for why. It is great that you are changing your life soon for your health. Congratulations!

He suggested it because I am insulin dependent and RNY has a higher rate of getting off of insulin. You are correct I have a while to start my research again snd wanted to start with personal experience and went right here. Thank you for the encouragement.

  2. Have been working towards a sleeve since February and finally was given a date for Sept 2nd but surg suggested bypass. I feel a little unprepared because all my research has been for the sleeve. What has been your experience for recovery? How many days in the hospital?

  3. I am about mid way through. I am curious if anyone had/has to lose a certain amount of weight before being approved for surgery? If so, what changes in your day to day eating activities did you make to lose it?

My doctor requires a 5% weight loss or no surgery. I have started working with the nutritionist now. Keeping a food diary using my fitness pal, started doing Water arobics twice a week only eating 3 meals a day and an evening snack due to insulin. No sugar, no food from the avoid list. I still don't have a surgery date but I wanted to make these changes now because I figure after surgery there will a whole lot more stuff to get use to.

  4. I too have that same concern. I am preop but trying to change my behavior now. My worst time to just start eating is between 7-9pm. One small thing I am trying is to wait to clean the kitchen and dishes till about 730 (I can't clean and eat at the same time). Lol still really hard but so far a little better. I can't

  5.
I had my consult with my surgeon yesterday. Before then, I was about 80% sure I was going ahead. Last week, my sweet hubs was about 25% sure, by the end of last week he was prob 50% sure, by mid week this week he was prob 60% sure, and as of my appt yesterday, we are both, totally completely 100% SURE this is happening!

I have my psych appt June 10, my first nut appt June 12 and a fitness eval the same day. Aetna requires a 3 month multidisciplinary program, which I thought meant 90 days. So I was thinking "okay, June to July, July to August, August to September…" and I explained I just needed to be back at work by the 2nd week of November (I work at UPS)… but it's actually just "3 months" meaning I'll go in June, in mid July, and in mid August (I turn 40 on August 16th!) and then they submit. He said Aetna typically takes about 3 weeks, so with that, and then the 2 week liquid diet and some buffer time….

I'm officially scheduled for surgery on September 25th!! Which, incidentally will be the 16th anniversary of when I met my sweet hubs. We were also married on a "25th" (in March) so that day just has always had special meaning <3

It will also mean I can give my dear friend her baby shower on September 13th, I can do the craft fair with my partner-in-crime on September 20th, and be ready to do another fall fair by October 25th (and work on restocking my stuffs while I'm recuperating!)

I'm just so.stinkin'.happy.

IT'S REALLY REALLY HAPPENING!!!!!!

Musicmama I am on the same frame as you. I saw my nutritionist in May and also need 3 months of a multidisciplinary program. I see the surgeon on June 8th and hope to have more answers. Funny but I thought I was 100% sure in March when I went to the seminar now I am 85% sure but finding this forum had helped. I don't feel so alone. Anyway congratulations on getting your date and it seems like it has lined up very well.
