  1. you will both do great!. Just follow the program and try to do as little as possible the first week. Just rest and sip clear fluids. Good luck!!!
  2. i went to Advanced Laproscopic in Paramus and Dr. Schmidt was my surgeon. I picked Dr. Schmidt because he seemed the most down to earth which I liked. The staff is wonderful. Hackensack Hospital had its own bariatric wing for recovery and the nurses were great. Just a very positive experience.
  3. I want to jump in and offer a thumbs up for Advanced Laproscopic in Paramus and Dr. Schmidt who was my surgeon. I agree with previous posters that it is a personal decision. I would equate it to picking a college. Where are you comfortable and have that "gut feeling". I have had previous surgery at Hackensack Hospital so specifically looked for a doctor there. When you go to the initial meeting, all 4 doctors speak and then you can decide who you want to see for your initial appointment. I picked Dr. Schmidt because he seemed the most down to earth which I liked. The staff is wonderful. You can email the NUT anytime with questions or go in to see her personally. After I had my initial consultation, I still felt unsure if I wanted to go through with it so went back for a follow up appt with the Dr. This time I had a new list of questions and he went over each one with me. They also offer free monthly group meetings. The hospital had its own bariatric wing for recovery and the nurses were wonderful. Just a very positive experience.
  4. what types of foods are you eating. For weeks 3 and 4 I was on pureed food, i.e. yogurt, cream soups, egg drop soup. Your stomach is still healing. Also, no liquids 30 minutes before or after you eat. It does get better. good luck!
  5. I was sleeved by Dr. Schmidt 5 months ago. Doing great. Good luck tomorrow. This is the best thing I ever did and looking forward to reaching goal in 2015. Just follow the process, rest and don't weigh yourself until you go in for your 1 week follow up.
  6. there should be no foods for the next 2 weeks. Aren;t you on a clear liquid diet? Everyone is different here so follow what your doctor has prescribed for you. The first few weeks are crucial - this is not the time to "cheat" or eat things you should not be consuming. Good luck!
  7. I was never told no caffeine. Just no carbonated beverages - so no Coke or Diet Coke. Iced tea or coffee would be ok.
  8. 184 I think I am officially out of the obese range on the BMI chart. It's a Christmas miracle!!!
  9. 187 can you change my goal to 180. thanks!
  10. 189 finally back on track and hopefully forever out of the 190's!
  11. thanks for starting this post. I never cooked before but with new lifestyle, always looking for simple recipes that taste great.
  12. 195 - I gained 2 pounds
  13. starting weight: 193 goal weight: 175 thanks!
  14. congratulations!! Hitting a milestone makes it all worthwhile. Keep up the good work!!
  15. I would like to participate. This would be my first challenge. thanks for managing it.
  16. The number on my scale finally started with a 1. There is no way this would have happened without WLS. I am so grateful I did this and so grateful for this site. I don't post often but read it daily. I am halfway to my goal and just feel so much stronger mentally and physically. Weight has held me back for so long. I am just so happy I had the surgery and that it is working. Good luck to everyone and keep going!!
  17. Hi. I agree with Bufflehead. Don't eat a few hours before bedtime. I have learned the hard way, just like you. I used to eat right before bed all the time. Every time I have done it since WLS, I am up in the middle of the night throwing up (probably 5-6 times). I have learned my lesson. Why take pills if you don't need to? If you don't eat before bedtime, it won't happen. And, as we try to develop better eating habits, eating before bedtime is always a NO. As for your brother, that is my biggest fear too. Right now I have no hunger issues (other than mental hunger). I hope that continues for as long as possible because each day makes me stronger. God luck!
  18. I have depression and anxiety. My psychiatrist was fully behind me doing the surgery. I am 3 months out and no issues with my medication. Losing the weight has helped me be more relaxed and social because weight was always one of my issues. It is still a struggle but I find myself more motivated to work through my emotional eating issues because I am succeeding. I can't speak for BD but don't understand why they think the surgery would lead to depression for you. I have had no absorption issues with my meds. The only change I had was making sure all my pills were small enough so I could easily swallow them (nothing bigger than an m&m). Good luck to you. I hope it works out for you.
  19. unjury sells an assortment of single packs so that you can try different flavors. I ordered before surgery and then tried them after surgery to see which ones I liked. The Milk Muscle light chocolate is good. I buy a case at costco.
  20. I had my surgery over the summer and was told 4 weeks. I think they want to be sure incisions are healed and no possibility of infection.
  21. can someone explain why no Motrin or ibuprofen after sleeve surgery? thanks.
  22. i'm right around your number and had surgery earlier. take it a week at a time. also bread and rice are just carbs - no real value for your nutrition. try to up your protein instead. good luck!
  23. I had this for 4-5 days after surgery and then it went away. No reflux. no other issues. I assumed it was from the anesthesia. Hopefully it goes away in a few days for you!!
