    June 2014 Sleevers Check In!

Hey Fellow June Sleevers. I had a ton of complications and spent 2 months in the hospital. I ve been on a feeding tube since July.....and ......had it removed last Friday ( yeah for milestones). The problem? The tube feed was high in calories and carbs and now I am craving sugar like a fiend. I spent so long not eating, that I am eating everything I see......I need to get on board with a healthy plan...but having a hard time of it. Any suggestions in getting on track? What worked for you back in June and July?
  3. This is all fresh in my mind..as I am just getting through this, myself. We live in a Washington State and my general doctor offered me medical marijuana. They make it with low THC and high in anti nausea...it comes in all forms...lotion, oil etc. I didn't go this route, but to each his own. For me, time went very slow and I was nauseated 24/7 except when I was sleeping. Just know there is light at the end of the tunnel.....things will get better.
  4. If I had it to do again..would I? No way! Especially not in Mexico. I ve lost 6 months of my life that I will never get back, what I put my family through was awful ( being so sick), the huge medical bills ( well over $100,000) the pain, the 10 additional surgeries, medical procedures, the medical induced depression, the tubes, drains, collapsed lung, the nausea, vomiting/wretching. Not on your life would I do it again.
  5. I ve had a total of 7 stents...three metal and 4 pigtail. The metal ones were horrible! I was on a feeding tube in my nose at the time and was vomiting/uncontrollable dry heaves 3 to 7 times á day. I had to " suck it up" for 6 weeks...the nausea was unbearable. I still have 2 pigtail stents that will be removed the end of January. For me, it has been going on since June. This is just my experience, yours won't necessarily be the same. Best of luck on Monday!
  6. I was sleeved with Dr. Q on Thursday. ..I am still in Mexico. I had a lot of anxiety when I got here, from the pre op diet to not eating to traveling and Dr. Q and his staff were fantastic. Dr. Q will sit and talk to you for as long as you need. He has so much experience and you even get a copy of your surgery. Dr. Q as a person does a lot for his community...he is not out to do as many surgeries as possible for the money. To give personal care, he limits surgeries to 3 a day. I did a lot of research before deciding on Dr. Q..I even saw one post where a woman research his instruments and the manufacture of the staples. BTY, Dr. Q uses sutures and staples. At the surgery center, there is a doctor on all night, your nurse and an interpreter. My husband came with me and he and another husband were introduced to some great local eating places. One was a taco stand across the street that they went back to 3 times. All in all I had great care and everything was upfront. I highly recommend Dr. Q

Good luck Patricia and Stacy. I am leaving for Mexico in the morning and surgery tomorrow afternoon. I cannot believe the day is almost here. Very nervous and questioning myself. Prayers appreciated.
  8. Okay, this liquid diet is tough.... So I've been trying to come up with some variations. What have you been having? Peanut Butter Malt Tonight's dinner is a vanilla protein powder, skim milk, cocoa powder, Davincis sugar free peanut butter syrup and a whole ton of ice mix in the Vitamix. It turned out like chocolate peanut butter soft ice cream..the consistency of a Wendy's malt. Jello dream Sugar free Jello mixed with greek yogurt Puddin' dream Sugar free pudding mixed with greek yogurt ( I'm going to try this frozen)

Starting the second week of the liquid diet. This is crazy hard! I've cheated almost daily by eating about 4 or so ounces of chicken dipped in Greek yogurt. Anyone else cheated? This is sure bringing up a lot of issues for me. Feeling discouraged already.

Does someone have a list they could post with everyone's name and surgery date? Would be nice for everyone to post encouraging words and or prayers/thoughts on people's surgery days.
