Sparklingbeauty53 got a reaction from AshleePage in Training for a 5 k - BIG deal for me!
My husband and daughter run marathons. I occasionally walk a 5 k and I come in dead last most of the time, if not next to last. They are hard for me and I don't love them. My family runs ahead then circles back to find me and walk me to the finish. I feel very self conscious while doing it. I don't own a sports bra but you don't need them to walk. I am proud that I even did some (total of about 7) but it is hard coming in late.
Well in October I am running my first 5k. I found a bra at Old Navy that actually is a sports bra and it fits (amazing). I am trying a program called couch25k. I am going to follow it religiously and this year I will run it and not feel self conscious at all. I came in next to last year because someone got injured and was behind me as a result. It is in my hometown and I saw loads of people I knew. I want it to be different and the 41 pounds I have lost to date is giving me the confidence to try. Posting here for 2 reasons: Because I want to proclaim it so it happens (keep me honest) and I want to encourage others that have no athletic desires or abilities to tell them it can be done.

I want to be independently wealthy-maybe from the beautiful things I create or write. I want to turn that wealth into ways to genuinely help those less fortunate. A best seller author or a recognized artist but definitely do: but I want all of that money to be shared with others. Right now I make beautiful bookmarks that I give away or sell for $2.00. I don't see the independently wealthy part coming anytime soon from that but it does give me pleasure to create, and pleasure to give.

I agree with all of the above. It is a medical necessity for you to have what you need and they would have a lawsuit on their hands if anything happens to you while you are there...the medical note should suffice and you bring what you need. I did Disney World Theme Parks and they were very accommodating right down to letting me order off the children's menu-no questions asked.

You may want to try the Couch to 5k program. When I was down 135 pounds 3-5 years ago I used it to go from a total non runner to running 5k's regular. Just google it, their are downloads for iPad and other devices.

It really is a very personal taste. You should buy sample packets and try them. I ordered the unjury Protein sample pack and I can't wait to try the different ones. I did the same with the nectar, etc. Presurgery I bought some rice Protein Powder in a big container and HATED IT. I am going to try it again sometime when I am brave (it was bad but I am stuck with it). Do yourself a favor and try samples! Much smarter and cost effective.

You are experiencing the gas they fill your abd cavity with for the operation..itll last 3??weeks? Walking helps...i was more energetic in the first few weeks than i am now at 12 weeks..being in Mexico helped! Location and weather makes a big difference....but walking really helps!! Dont worry about the drain...lol..Nooo it dosnt hurt. As for diarrhea I never experienced that at all...so wondering if its something in your shakes? Dont worry getting the Protein and Water in is pretty much impossible...but do your best! Watch for dehydration signs...dry skin...to headaches....As for eating normal...lol...remember this is a change in lifestyle...i had rny too..and im glad i will never ...hopefully..to be able to eat like I did pre surgery...so far down 53 lbs...its a struggle to get 65g protein in or 64 oz of water..im sure if i could get all that Water in id have lost more...lol.... but slow is good! Congrats on your surgery...get up and walk and do what you can for eating and drinking...remember diarrhea causes dehydration so need to drink more...if you r experiencing alot disvuss with doctor...im sure more of us got constipated lol bc lack of Fiber and nutrients the first few weeks..so diarrhea may be better? Loltrying to be optimistic...and yes your body may switch to Constipation soon...so important to monitor your bowel movements

Btw, the drain hurts when it is being pulled out but it's just a brief tugging sensation as it's being pulled out of the incision. After it's out you should only feel soreness that does not last long. I pray that this helps take away some of your anxiety. You must remember you are only one week and your insides need time to heal. I promise you you'll be feeling much better soon.

Hi, I'm so sorry to hear that you are struggling with this but trust me, it gets better as time goes on. I'm seven weeks post op and I still have occasional bouts of diarrhea so depending on how your body heals this may be normal. As far as the nausea and not being able to tolerate the Protein Drink, this too is normal. I can't tolerate any of them and I get my Protein now from what I eat (Greek yogurt, poultry, Beans, cottage cheese, fish). The pain will pass as you become more active but don't push yourself until the tiredness passes which happened for me around week four. Just try to walk around your house even if it's only going up and down the stairs. I pray that you will begin to feel better soon. God Bless.

@@michellew1 wow... So sorry to hear that, the discrimination is crazy.
Don't give up though, someone could be normal and actually give you the job because you're qualified. I've been in the same boat, interview after interview and nothing.. I've always had in my head that it was the weight.
There's fat haters and there's people who respect other people no matter what they look like. I've seen many overweight women with great jobs, so it's possible! At the same time, if getting the job would motivate you to drop the weight, then use it!

I am currently a Certified Medical Assistant. I did really well in collage and graduated with honors. When I went to extern, I fell in love with helping people more than ever. After graduation, I knew I would get a job right away. I went to several wonderful interviews. But No one ever called me back. During my last interview I had the interviewer tell me that I had all the qualifications for the job, that I would be great for the job, but my weight was an issue. That they wanted a thinner nurse to see their patients. As soon as I got out of her sight, I was in tears. (Can they really say that? Couldn't they come up with a different reason?) I know I am an awesome nurse. I love people. I love making people feel good. And most of all I have the knowledge to take care of people to make them feel better.
Maybe once I have my surgery, someone will hire the skinner me. Because I worked really hard and love what I am.

I think I would like to live more independently now. A more off the grid lifestyle where my needs are met naturally and more creatively. I'd like to learn to make furniture rather than trading my time for money to pay for furniture. If only they had a surgery that removed 75% of my student loan debt.

One becomes a writer by writing. You don't need to feel better to write. You just have to write. That's all. The more words, the better. You don't need to edit yet. Just write.
    Write.

My dream job is to be recognized for my raw gift and talents and be called in as the person needed to make business truly work. My kids call me "priceline the negotiator" ha! I love what I am doing right now, even with the highs and lows that come with it. Some of the obstacles are challenging and you win some and you lose some...I happen to like that!
I am a program manager. I help companies/agencies develop training goals or business goals and align the right resources to meet their plans and look for a win-win for all involved. I am a champion for making everyone happy and pensive about getting stellar results through the work provided and the processes. I AM still looking for that one role that makes me feel like 'I have arrived' but I'm sure it's right around the corner.

I've been thinking about writing a book after I hit goal. I was raised in an abusive family and had an abusive marriage unfortunately. I just don't know if a book is enough! I don't know if I'm willing to put myself out there, you know?
