  1. I just had my sleeve done on 5-15-14. About a year ago, I was diagnosed with microscopic colitis. I had severe abdominal pains and horrible diarhhea. I eventually started taking a medication called Lialda. (I stopped taking it prior to surgery and haven't started taking it again.) Any way, my question is: Does anyone else have microscopic colitis and if so, do you still have a lot of symptoms?

    Haters!

I know there's been a number of posts very similar to mine, but I need to vent. I'm almost 5 months post-op, and everyone in my life has been super supportive! It's truly been a blessing. I've lost about 75 lbs. and at first, got plenty of compliments. Now, I'm still about 10 lbs. overweight, and I'm really working hard to lose it. However, people are starting to sip on some serious haterade. I've always been overly sensitive, and secretly it's hurting my feelings. They'll say things like, "You don't plan to lose any more weight, do you?" (and give me a stank eye) or "You don't want to get too skinny." HELLO!! I'm still overweight. What gives, and how can I still keep my motivation and spirits up? Thanks for any advice, or if you just want to make me giggle, that's cool too!!
  3. Don't worry. We all take a TON. The multi-Vitamins are here to stay. After 6 months, my surgeon allows me to stop taking some of them (ex. Actigall.) I currently take 9 pills a day, and I'm just shy of 5 months post-op. The price is a little outrageous, but I guess I can save a little money by skipping junk/ fast food.
  4. Some people are sipping HATERADE. Keep up the good work!! If you notice, so do they!

    SCARED!

I'm now 3+ months post-op. I had a break down about 2 weeks out due to my loathing of protein. (It was ridiculous: crying and a tantrum.) My advice, and I mean this respectfully: Man up. Protein is essential to your health post-op. If it takes you 2 hours, so be it. It'll get easier. There are hundreds of different products. Try lots of them and keep switching it up. Best of luck. I know where you are right now!

    Tummy Issues?

I have a condition called microscopic colitis. Prior to surgery, I took medication for nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal cramping. I also had reflux and heartburn. My reflux has gotten MUCH worse, but my colitis is a little better. I did restart my medication but at a lower dose. I feel a lot better though.

    May Sleever Roll Call

Hi all! I had surgery on May 15th. I've lost 37 lbs. post-op and 60 lbs. total. Great job everyone! Whoot-whoot!!

    tailbone

My bum hurts too. I sit at work and commute about an hour each way. My new little butt is so confused.

    Lost my butt...

One word... SQUATS! LOL I love losing weight, but I'm horrified of having "pancake fanny."

    1 week post op

You guys don't really have to wonder anymore (unless your pain is awful.) As you suspected, it is gas. Not comfortable at all. Walk a lot and take medication for heartburn. This helped me drastically.

    HAIR!

OMG! I am only 2 months out, and I'm sooooo afraid of losing my hair.
  14. I'm only 8 weeks out. At 10 days post-op, I got a horrible sinus infection. Since I was on a pure liquid diet and blowing my nose like it was going out of style, I got really dehydrated and needed IV fluids. That illness lasted about 2 solid weeks. Then almost 2 weeks ago I got another sinus infection (at 6 weeks out.) This really stinks! Did anyone else have issues with getting sick?

    Gallbladder Removal

I am required to take a medication (for 6 months post-op) to prevent gallstone formation, which would eventually lead to needing a choley.
  16. Here are a few key tips I found helpful after surgery: 1. Walk... walk a lot... walk constantly! LOL 2. Force the protein! 3. Stay hydrated. (This is hard for me. I have to drink from the time I wake up until I go to sleep.) 4. Take your meds./ Vitamins. 5. Be your own advocate. If you have questions, call your surgeon/ nurse/ etc... 6. Lose weight, but learn to love yourself. Be proud of yourself. I wish you the best of luck throughout this journey!

    Help

I too have a lot of gas. I'm only 8 weeks out. It's pretty uncomfortable. My surgeon said I can take OTC meds. though. Good luck!

    What now?

I wish you the best of luck, Sarah! I had WLS on May 15th and have lost 55 lbs. I have no idea what "skinny" is, but I can't wait to find out.

    Very disappointed!

@@par1959 What happened to sticking to your opinion? I believe you deleted your comment. Any way, I'd still like to address your ignorance and lack of logical thinking. If someone in their 20s is having WLS, there's a good chance they've had this disease all of their life. Children do not buy/ cook their own food. They don't enroll themselves in sports or other outdoor activities. They don't buy televisions or video game systems to put in their rooms. A lot of obese young people are products of their environment... suffering from obesity at a very young age. Obesity is also a side effect (of sorts) of abuse. Many 20-somethings have WLS to gain control of their lives... control that they previously didn't have (and not by choice.) Please educate yourself before making a statement that makes you look like an ass because I'm sure you're a really nice person.

    Very disappointed!

Most people who are unsupportive are either jealous or uneducated (and therefore afraid for you.) I didn't tell many people before surgery because I didn't want any negativity. Afterwards, I'll tell any one and answer any questions they have about it. A lot of people are too cowardly to say anything negative to me, and I wouldn't care any way. Like others said, it's YOUR journey. Be proud of yourself for making the choice to be happy and healthier.

    CAN IT GET ANY WORSE?

I'm really sorry to hear of the problems you're having. I was approved on my first time, but I wanted to offer some support. Keep trying, and don't give up. Perhaps the peer to peer will get you approved.

Going It Alone - No Help After Surgery

I'm not allowed to lift anything over 25 lbs. for 6 weeks. (I asked my doc. and this included walking my dog because he pulls.) If your dog doesn't pull, it should be fine. I don't have a lot of help either. My suggestions would be to have at least 1 freind you can call to vent. Also, before surgery, get your things in order: Pay the bills that need to be paid for 2 weeks after surgery, get the house and laundry in order, and have all of your grocery shopping done ahead of time. It'll be rough but not too bad. Best of luck to you!!!!
