Worried about how to keep kids from getting fat.

I have the same concerns for my sons (7&10). It is something we work for everyday. We discuss the importance of healthy food choices and exercise. Treats aren't labelled as bad, but as something we have occasionally. My youngest has life threatening food allergies which has made us read ingredient labels for every item we buy. We have turned label reading into a teachable moment and they are learning the difference between natural food and chemical "food". I also use their school lessons in our house to broaden their understanding. All we can do is try. Nobody is perfect but the fact that you worry about their nutrition says a lot! Hang in their and know that just by trying to find out how to help them is the biggest and most difficult first step!

    Acne

I started getting acne when I was in my 30's after I got an IUD. I also have very sensitive skin and dry skin. I also worked in a dermatologist office for over 7 years. The combination I found that works for me is Neutrogena acne wash (the orange liquid wash) twice a day. I use a good moisturizer with sunscreen in the morning after washing my face (DML SPF 25, The packaging looks like a relic from the 70's but it is a good thick moisturizer that really helps with my dry, sensitive face without making me break out.) at night I wash again and use an over the counter product called zap zit. This combination helps keep my face under control. You have to find what works for you. Try over the counter things first and see if it helps. You have to give anything you try a good 4-6 weeks before you can judge if it is truly working. Good luck!
  6. Please, please, please take your pain medication if you need it! Pain is much easier to manage if you take the medication regularly and keep the pain at a fairly stable low level. If you wait to take the pain meds until the pain is to the point you can't stand it, and keep repeating that process your pain control will be less effective. Why torture yourself if you don't have to? Nobody gets an award for suffering through all of that pain and taking minimal pain medication. Nobody will know but you if you needed the medication and how much you needed. I hope your recovery gets better and you will see the upside to the surgery soon!

    Deductible met now what?

Typically once you meet your deductible, your insurance will start covering a certain % of future claims allowed amount and the rest is due from you until you meet your out of pocket max. For example, my policy has a $3000 deductible and then they cover claims at 80% (meaning I am responsible for the remaining 20%) until I meet my out of pocket max of $5000. So I am responsible for all claims up to the first $3000 of my medical expenses for the year. Now that I have met that $3000, the insurance pays my medical claims at 80%. Once my 20% reaches $5000, my insurance pays all claims after the $5000 in full with no payment due from me. Does that help?
  9. Hi everyone! I am waiting to schedule my appointments with the surgeons office. They won't schedule any appointments until I get, complete, and return the medical packet they mailed me. I am a bit confused about one aspect though. My insurance requires 90 days of medically supervised diet and exercise. The office said it will take 6 months before my procedure can be scheduled. Why would the office want an extra 3 months versus my insurance?

    You're so vain...

Absolutely! My main motivation is my health, but I would also like to feel attractive again too. I would like to have confidence in myself again and not try to hide my body because I am ashamed of how much weight I have gained.

Ack! Anesthesia was denied post-op, now what?

Call Aetna first thing tomorrow and discuss these charges. The charges are called "runaway charges" and should be covered and paid as in network even if the provider isn't in network with your plan. All you should have to do is explain you had no control over who did the anesthesia at an in network facility. It should only take one call to straighten it out. Please feel free to message me if you have any more questions. I spent many years as a billing manager for a private medical practice and might as well put my knowledge to good use!

    I stink!

I normally have very potent odor if I don't use a strong enough deodorant. I have tried many brands and the one that is always my go to is Lady Mitchum clear gel. That stuff is the best I have tried and I have tried almost everything on the market!

    Courthouse wedding, reception later?

We got married at the courthouse 15 years ago and I have never regretted the decision. We gave everyone 2 weeks notice and about 20 members of our family showed up. We went to a local restaurant for dinner afterwards and had wedding cake for dessert. I still wore the white dress (just a simple dress), he wore a suit, I still had a bouquet. It was perfect for us because I am a very introverted person and do not like being the center of attention at all! We took the money we saved by having a small wedding and had a beautiful 2 week honeymoon in Cozumel, MX at an all inclusive resort. We had so much fun and it was perfect for us. My mom and his mom both had major melt downs because we didn't do a big family wedding and formal reception but they didn't realize how uncomfortable I would have been. We stuck to our guns and have never regretted our decision. You have to do what makes you happy ad fits your needs and nobody else's. we were 21/22 when we got married so it was really hard to stick to our position and go against our parents, but it worked out in the end. We have now been happily married for over 15 years and have 2 wonderful sons.

    Boob Issue

I am afraid or what will happen to my boobs once I start dropping weight post op. I am a 40H now. I may have to forgo surgery to remove the extra skin and instead pay to have my boobs put back up where they belong! I have always been busty and even in high school I wore a DD+.

Cigna Center of Excellence 2+ hours away

I gave it the old college try and it was a no go! I spoke with someone in the authorization department, customer service, and someone from HR at my husband's employer. Everyone confirmed bariatric surgery is only covered at a Cigna designated center of excellence no ifs, ands, or buts about it. It was worth the try and I tried a few different avenues to make sure the information was accurate. I worked as a medical billing manager for quite a few years and I know Cigna customer service reps aren't known for being the most knowledgeable.

    Anyone from Wisconsin?

Springbrook here! It is a itty bitty little town between Hayward and Spooner. Where is everyone having their procedures done at? I am planning on having mine done at Aspirus in Wausau, WI.
  19. Hello! This is my first post, but I have been lurking and reading for a few days now and have learned so much. I have to say thank you to everyone for sharing your experiences and information. I have been researching my insurance coverage policies for WLS and lining up everything to meet their requirements. One of the requirements is the surgery must be performed at a Cigna designated Center for Excellence in Bariatric Surgery. The closest ones are in Wausau, WI and Marshfield, WI. I live in far northwestern Wisconsin and either is 2.5 hours away. I hope somebody has been to Aspirus in Wausau and would be willing to share their experience. Thanks in advance for any feedback.
