Ladies, you really need to get your Protein in if you want to lose weight. Mashed potatoes are not what you need at this point. Yogurt , soft cheese, Protein Shakes should be the majority of your intake at this point. Small sips and walking in between is what helped me get it in. And sip, sip, sip that water!

My doctor first recommended bariatric surgery about two years ago. I attended my first information session in August 2013. As I am using a military facility (my husband is a retired Marine), I did not have to go through the insurance approval process. I was required to attend nutrition sessions, psych eval, support groups, etc. So I've been busy!
I'm 44 and wish I'd done this sooner. How about you?

Stay strong -- I moved over to the losers' bench Monday and I'm doing great. Lots of pressure in my chest from the gas but no real "pain". I remember last weekend how nervous and frustrated I felt waiting for Monday to come but it WILL get here!
Best wishes all! We'll keep a spot open on the bench for you 16th people!

I am also on the 18th of June and I am excited beyond words. I am also extremely impatient by nature so the waiting is killing me. I am also in San Antonio.

Let me guess.... Scared of getting attention from men, scared of not getting attention........ Judging by your pic, you are beautiful, and if the weight loss gives you back your confidence.... You will be a knockout! I am lucky enough to have found the love of my life and he could care less what I weigh. Hang in there ... You are doing all the right things and the payoff will be worth the effort.

My doctor told me I could go back to work at my office job after 1 week (gastric sleeve). If you can afford to take the time off and you have sick time available I would take 2 weeks off. If you can't do that I think your work at home option is a good one. Most people seem to be off pain meds after 3rd or 4th post op day.

I am also told " you are not that big". I would be a lot bigger if I didn't try to make healthy choices every day. I would not be carrying this weight if I could have dieted it off. Believe me I tried. I , like you have spent a fortune on Nutrisystem, HCG, Jenny Graig and anything else I could find. I can't believe that I might have finally found a solution!

I wonder the same thing. I was not overweight until age 50. Before that weighed 125-135 lbs. now at 212 lbs I am miserable. Concerned about my chances of success but am heading to Surgery June 12 th. I am so excited to think that I might actually lose this weight.

Ginger. Have you been checked for a hiatal hernia. I have suffered with reflux for years and turns out I have a hiatal hernia which will be repaired when I get my sleeve.

Lorainsatx reacted to cryss in Alcohol and the Social Drinker
Just my humble opinion - as someone who was a social drinker for years:
Best advice I have seen with regard to this question: 1) Do what your doctor says, and 2) always consider how we phrase things, as it will help how we learn to re-relate to food and our process of reinvention. Whether foods/snacks/treats, alchohol, or anything else, its best to phrase someting along the lines of "want to" verses "half to". Our taste for things (sugar, alchohol, etc.) often changes. Whether or not that holds true, our choices MUST change, else we wouldn't be here.
Sometimes personal sacrifice of these things is worth everything, and the difference between absolute and mediocre success, or outright failure.
I'm not suggesting someone cant have an occasional drink. I am only suggesting that the success stories I have read and discussed with others, were with people who decided that an overhaul in both food and social choices, and how they related to them, was absolutely necessary.
Alcohol, even socially, still has its price. At 20 grand for this surgery, most choose to give up a few social habbits that were not really important anyway. I mean, why not jump into the pool all the way, rather than just wade up to our necks.
    Just my two cents.
