  1. I had Dr. Kane and was SO SO pleased with him, and The Kane Center. The staff is unbelieveably helpful and make the whole process seamless. I'm a little over 4 months post-op and am so glad I chose them. (And you'll see my post above wondering all the same things many, many months ago!)

Who Was Your Gastric Sleeve Surgeon

I agree 200%! Dr. Kane was my surgeon and everything from beginning (pre-op appts, office support, insurance) to end (i'm 3 months post-op) has been seamless! Dr. Kane is warm, and personable. Surgery went perfect. I was at Alexian Brothers and I can't say enough about the staff there. So wonderful. Dr. Kane's staff is efficient and if i've ever called about a question, they've called back in a timely manner. I had similar issues with Dr. Hart's office. (I had a different pulmonoligist who was fine.) Numerous issues with paperwork getting where it was suppose to, and when i'd follow up the blame was placed on someone/someplace else. My surgery was almost delayed because of such an issue. But it was worth it because Dr. Kane, and team, has been so amazing.

    One week buyers remorse

It's SO hard at first, but it gets better! I'm almost 3 months out, and being able to have just a taste of something you didn't think you'd have again is so rewarding. (And what is it about Mexican food? I thought about it non-stop post-op too!)
  4. This is why I'd never order off a kid's menu (and yes, I have the card and will never use it.) I'm an adult and will order accordingly...whether I eat 4 bites, or the entire plate like I used to. If every person who had WLS, or just wanted a "light meal" order off a kids menu, where would that leave the restaurants? Also, as a former server, I assume most people tip off the final bill...the bill with the kids items and tip from that. It's NOT discrimination. That shouldn't be thrown around when there are serious, sometimes deadly issues, of discrimination in this country far outreaching a simple restaurant policy. For me, personally, I don't want to be treated any different for having WLS, a surgery I elected to have, anymore than I wanted to be treated differently before the surgery.

    Yeast infection... Is it normal?

I got a wicked yeast infection about 4 days post-op. I called my surgeon and they called in that one pill (like you take just 1 pill) and it cleared it right up.

    Cold Feet For Surgery

I thought of running out up until the very last minute. All of your feelings are normal and valid. I'm just 8 weeks out so things still seem "new" but I will say that every day you become more and more "you." Just a new you Recovery wasn't bad at all for me. Just follow the steps, take care of yourself and know you'll be just fine.

    post op 7 days pizza

Oh for loves sake. This is a PROCESS. NO ONE is better than the other. No one has all the answers. We are all overcoming addiction and yes, eating disorders (because you don't become morbidly obese and need WLS w/out having an eating disorder.) The flippant "why have the surgery if you're just going to cheat/not follow directions/etc?" get me so upset because that is being judgemental--almost just as judgemental as the people who told us when we were fat "why don't you eat less?" "Why don't you not eat junk?" except it's worse. We all know better. To answer your question, no, it isn't weird. If it becomes habit, I think it would be, but you're so newly out of surgery I think you're still finding your footing. We all make mistakes and have slip-ups. It's about the overall effort and what each of us makes of it. It's all our choice.

    Finding my groove

Sleeved 10/7 and feel very lucky that I haven't had that much of a hard time. However, I feel nauseated A LOT and no food tastes great to me. Things are settling and I don't get sick, but just feel gross (after eating.) i know it's all just an adjustment, but sometimes I wish I didn't have to eat at all. Who thought i'd EVER say that?!!

Special card to use when going out

Got it from my doctor. I have one, but doubt I will use it. For me, I don't want to draw attention to the fact that I had WLS. I'm trying to maintain as much of a normal life as possible without making WLS the focus of my life. (It is right now obv, but I don't want it to be. I just want it to be life.) Don't know if this makes sense, but it's how I feel. Many people have dietary restrictions these days so I have no problem asking for something plain, etc. Plus, I like the leftovers.
  10. I got it today and it's AMAZING. Used a half a scoop in some pudding, and another half in soup and it was perfect. No taste. No clumps. Thank you so much!

    Hating the puréed stage...

I'm on day 3 of it and it's awful! I've been mashing food up well instead of pureeing because I just can't stomach it that way.
  12. Ordered today! Thank you!
  13. Yes! I have the Syntrax unflavored, but the smell (and taste...yes, I can taste it in everything) is so unpleasant to me. I don't know what to try next.
  14. Not to be a whiner (yes I do...) but i'm so sick of the all liquid rotation. I was sleeved on 10/7 and was on all liquids 2 weeks before, and now 2 weeks after. All the Protein powder drinks, ready-mades, unflavored...they are just making me gag and NOT want to drink. I know i'm being dramatic. Hell, if I was reading this I'd say, "Suck it up!" But I think this has been the most difficult part so far. Thanks for listening to the vent.

    Protein...You're making me sick.

Thank you all. Sending you all hugs and we'll wishes

    Protein...You're making me sick.

Thank you all you wonderful cheerleaders. I have only tried the unflavored Syntrax Nectar. I know it's unflavored but I don't care, you can still taste the, I dunno, UNFLAVORED. It just makes me...blah. I see the surgeon on Monday and I hope he says I can move to purees a few days early.

    Protein...You're making me sick.

And that is why I hate whining. Recovery has gone great. I feel good 85-90% of the time. I just have to remind myself this part is temporary.

    Pasteurized Egg Whites

Even though I'm not there yet (10 days post-op) but I've mixed egg whites and cottage cheese. A big whopper of protein. Sometimes I'd add salsa or even a little avocado.

    Pain

No pain meds once I got home and just liquid regular Tylenol for 2 nights at home.

    Insomnia

Hi there... I'm 4 days post-op and am having a horrible time sleeping. I didn't sleep at all in the hospital (You know, they're always coming in to check on you) and now, at home, I'll try to sleep at night, and sleep for half hour and be awake for hours. I'll doze a few minutes here and there during the day, but nothing substantial. I know my body is all off from surgery. Totally get that. But the exhaustion from not being able to rest is effecting me mentally and I don't want it to. Did anyone else experience this? Also, did anyone find any good sleep aids (like melatonin, etc) that helped? Thank you so much.

    TIME OFF

I'll be a week out tomorrow and I think I could IF it wasn't tons of walking. My energy level is very unpredictable and sometimes I feel really weak, but that's getting better. Just be prepared with all your water/protein!

    what is normal?

My husband told me that I wasn't even this emotional after I had our son. Today is the first day I haven't cried (and I was sleeved the day after you.) I've had a relatively easy recovery as well so I'm not unhappy about things. I've found several things about many people going through the same. Hormones and our entire body has been through a trauma and it's normal for our emotions to be out of whack. You're okay

    Am I alone here?

I was SO nervous. I just had my surgery on 10/7. Even up to going into the OR I was freaking out and wondering if I was doing the right thing. (Luckily, they give you some really nice "relaxation" meds if you need them....and I DID!) Believe me, I had tears and was just so scared. BUT...like others have said, the fear of being unhealthy, and overweight for the rest of my life scares me more. I'm less than a week out and doing well. The recovery has been a pleasant surprise...not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. You'll be okay!

October sleevers.. Where is everyone from

    Chicago! Sleeved 10/7.
  25. I am post-op day 4 as well and I've felt very similar. Increasing liquids and Proteins, pain is minimal, but have felt very weak today. I'm not sleeping much at all so I know that's part of it. And yes, my emotions are OUT OF CONTROL. My husband said I wasn't even this emotional after we had a baby!
