    What ya eating tonight?

Tonight, it's some chicken from my husband's Moo Goo Gai Pan and some from my daughter's Chicken and Broccoli.

    Finally had surgery!

I was given a list of aproved shakes and vitamins at my first visit to the Bariatric clinic. I take Celebrate Vitamins. I ordered a sample package of them and decided on my flavors pre-op. I chose this brand due to price and the ease of scheduling them through my day.
  3. My surgery was 12 /10 and there has been no feelings of hunger. I have to schedule my two meals each day.
  4. I was told that my bites should be about half the size of my thumb nail. I've been allowed chicken since Christmas eve and have had no trouble eating it by keeping to that size bite.
  5. I'm 59 and had my RNY 12/10/14. The day of surgery, I weighed 207. I didn't lose any weight the first week. In the two weeks (and 3 days ????) since then, I have lost 15.5 pounds. I believe that it would have been more, but, I was very sick with an upper respiratory infection for about a week of that 2wks and 3ds. I'm 5 feet tall.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

I've been able to sleep the entire night in my bed. No more recliner! I also broke the 10,000 step mark on my fitbit yesterday! Over 12500 steps in one day! And I crushed my sister in a five day competition for the most steps! ????
  7. At 7 days post-op, I was allowed eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, fat free refried pinto or black beans and shredded low fat cheese. At 14 days post-op, I was allowed to add chicken, turkey, fish and soy products. It amazes me how much the post-op diet varies from practice to practice. I'm not allowed soups at all. No veggies until 6 weeks post-op, no fruit until 3 months. No beef, pork or starchy carbs for 6 months!

    What ya eating tonight?

An ounce of chopped up turkey with a very little bit of light mayo. I'm just over three weeks post-op and still have three weeks before I get veggies. And no starchy carbs until after the six month mark.

    Just curious

RNY and 6 incisions. Two that took 5 staples to close, one that took 4 and three that took 2. But I had to have a lot of extra work done due to lots of adhesions.
  10. I've read a lot about the fact that left side incision pain usually lasts longer than anywhere else. Can anyone tell me about how long your pain lasted? I was putting up with it ok until the mountain cedar pollen count went to extremely high. I now have the scratchy throat, stuffy nose, headache and a constant cough. My left side has gone from annoying to the point that I'm reconsidering getting off my pain medication. I'm two weeks post-op.

    Left side pain

I've been cleared to take some tussin DM and the one dose I've had so far is really helping. My daughter picked up some sugar free liquid benadryl and cough drops. I may just survive this!

    Left side pain

Thanks, Beni, I was doing okay until I got caught by surprise by a coughing spasm. Now it hurts to move any at all. I'm going to contact the surgeon's office (all my care for the next year is supposed to be through them) about what kind of cough medicine I can take. It's going to be a miserable night!
  13. I had my two week post-op visit today and made my NP VERY happy! After not losing anything at my visit last week, I managed a loss of eight pounds this week! I thought she was going to start doing a happy dance around the room! And while I was extremely happy, there was no happy dance for me. I had just had 20 surgical staples removed and moving that much kinda hurts right now. But I am doing happy dance moves in my head! and cartwheels! and etc! I also had my food plan advanced to the next stage. I still have to drink 2-3 4oz "Protein supplements" (4ozs of protein shake) and I still can have my eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, and shredded low fat cheese, I now get to add MEAT!!! chicken, fish, turkey and soy products! I made a tiny bit of tuna salad when I got home (it was yummy!) and for Christmas tomorrow, I'm making some little turkey meatballs! I can hardly wait! I hope all of you are having a very Blessed and Merry Christmas!
  14. And one of the really big events today (HOW could I have forgotten in the first post?!) I'm now under 200 pounds!!!
  15. Mommabird

    strange topic...have you?

I think I live on Listerine strips and have since I started drinking Protein shakes pre-op. I thought it was the shakes but ketones sound more plausible. The cinnamon ones are my go to for a better tasting mouth.
  16. My surgery was at 7:30 AM Dec 10th and I was discharged at 9 pm Dec 11th. I could have stayed another night but decided that I would be more comfortable at home.
  17. Hello, all! I'm Robin and had my RNY on 12/10. My weight the day of surgery was 204 and today it's 198.5. I got fussed at on my first post-op appointment for not getting out and walking enough. This morning I walked 2 miles and hopefully will do that twice more today. My surgery was much more extensive than expected but things are going well now. I'm currently allowed eggs, yogurt, shredded cheese and cottage cheese, but I expect to graduate up to chicken, fish, turkey and veggie burgers on Christmas Eve. That is also when I get my 20 staples out so I am expecting it to be a very merry Christmas indeed! ????

    Constipation Club

My surgeon's office told me that if I hadn't gone by day 3 post-op to start taking Miralax one to three times a day. I take it once a day but I am very early in the post-op days of eating. (eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc.) I may have to increase the dose when I move up to chicken and fish later this week.
  19. Liprippa, I can so relate to sweaters in Texas. I live in the Waco area and it was 50 degrees outside when I went for my walk this morning. I was wearing a jacket, knit hat and gloves! I'm 12 days post-op and haven't felt warm yet! I expect that as the weight comes off the cold feeling will only get worse. I may actually have to buy a real coat this year!
  20. And thanks to my wonderful husband, I'm recovering quite well! My surgery was more extensive than planned due to A LOT of adhesions from previous surgeries. My hubby has really stepped up: making sure I'm sipping and getting all my fluids in, my shakes are waiting for me, I'm up and walking and keeping track of all my meds. I noticed this morning that he has a chart posted in the bathroom with what's due when and the doses and times I take them!:-) He told me before surgery, that while I was having the gastric bypass, that he knew it would benefit both of us. And making sure that I recover and stick to the plan is, apparently, his part!!
  21. I had my one week post-op appointment today. I was moved up to soft proteins and just had some scrambled egg. I was only able to eat about an eighth of it but it tasted wonderful! I sitting here here waiting for the next 30 minutes to pass as I'd really like to have something to drink. I had wondered how I would know when I had eaten enough. For me, apparently, it's a tiny twinge in my pouch. I will be looking out for that twinge the next time I eat to see if it happens again. I am SO thrilled to have reached my first post-op milestone!

    One week post-op

Thanks, Maggie, the only food that I was allowed this week that will have to wait for a while was the refried beans. They didn't make me sick but my stomach felt so heavy afterwards. The egg was good and so was the shredded cheese and yogurt. But best of all has been the cottage cheese! I drizzled a tiny bit of fruit flavor Torani sugar free syrup on it and it has sat wonderfully! I must admit that on one hand I am really looking forward to having meat again and on the other hand, it makes me nervous. I am going to pressure cook some chicken breast and chop them up into tiny pieces and see how it goes!
  23. I am extremely blessed! I just finished drinking some Crystal Light that he mixed my crushed up meds in ☺ We'll be celebrating our 38th anniversary in May! I am very blessed indeed!
  24. I'm doing well. I had my surgery 12/10. My sister is visiting from out of state and she and I just got home from a 2 hour trip to the grocery store to stock her up on the things she can't get at home. I'm tired but not hurting. I was started on soft proteins yesterday. Eggs, grated cheese, Greek yogurt and cottage cheese. I've tried egg and cheese so far with no problems. All in all, I'd have to say that things are going pretty good!

    One week post-op

Thanks for the advice. So far, I've only had that little bit of egg. Everything feels so different now, I have decided to take things slowly. But on the other hand, I've already been told that I will be moved up to "softer meats" (chicken, turkey and fish) on Christmas Eve. So I want to get a good handle on what eating feels like before then.
