    What ya eating tonight?

Yes, NewgirlfromMd, I'm with Mildred. Please share the recipe! As for me, as I'm sick of chicken and fish and aren't allowed beef or pork yet, I'm having roasted turkey breast. I discovered today that my neighborhood HEB store roasts them fresh every day. I had some at lunch and will be repeating it for dinner. Probably with a small salad.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

My husband rolled over in bed last night and rested his hand on my hip. All the sudden I heard "Hey, you have hip bones!"

    Staples

I guess I should add, at 5 months out, you would have to know that the staples had been there to see any marks.

    Staples

I had external staples after my RNY. They were removed at my 2 week check up and replaced with steri-strips for another 10 days. The steri-strips were allowed to come off on their own. At 2 weeks, the staples came out very easily and painlessly.

    Disappointed Family

@@Blueststar, let me just say what your parents didn't. 16.3 pounds down!!!! Fantastic!!! I'm so proud of you!! I know that you worked so hard this past month and it shows. Please, Please, tell me what I can do to help you continue to be so successful! WAY TO GO!!!!
  6. @@MrsSugarbabe, when my now 28 year old daughter was small, she spent a LOT of time in the hospital. Pre surgery, when we would meet for lunch, her place of choice was the hospital cafeteria! Keep in mind that neither of us work at the hospital, we just went to lunch there! Now that she has moved to Austin, I don't figure it will be too long before she finds the closest hospital to try out the food!

    The lady at the pool

I am very glad to say that the YMCA where I take water aerobics has a lift and I've seen it being used under just those circumstances. The teenage lifeguard was so kind and gentle with the lady. He put her completely at ease with everything that was happening. Too bad we lost him to an out of state college!

    Fair Life Milk - thoughts?

I've seen it i the stores but haven't bought any. I use a HEB brand of lactose free milk called "MooTopia" The Fat Free version has 6 gms of carbs all sugar) and 12 gms of Protein per cup.I've used it all through the mandated weight loss, pre-op and post-op. It tastes just like regular milk but cost significantly less than Life Milk. I'm glad to hear that the Life Milk is good, so that on the days HEB is out of my MooTopia or when we travel, I'll have a good substitute.
  9. I don't enjoy grocery shopping like I used to. Now, it's just one more chore to get through.I don't mind buying food that I can't eat, I'm used to that as I has diabetes (now resolved!) and bought treats for the rest of the family. Today will my first trip to the grocery store in weeks (long story involving kidney stones, pain, surgery, more pain, etc.) and I'm looking forward to going. Our adult daughter moved out of our home to start a new job and as she had many food sensitivities, our diet has been some what limited. Tonight , dinner will be full of all the things we've not eaten in the two years she's been home attending college. About dealing with food you can't eat, being eaten in front of you, I've learned to really enjoy the aroma of the food! We were out late Friday (college graduation of above mentioned daughter) and my husband stopped at McDonald's. He and my daughter got hamburgers to eat when they got home (My food was already there) and I just sat and enjoyed the smell of there hamburgers. Sure, just for a second I wished I could of had one, but I've learned it just never tastes as good as you think it will. But I do enjoy the smell of hamburgers, BBQ, and popcorn, etc without feeling deprived. I really believe that once you have your surgery, this will not be the issue that it is now. Pre-op is hard. There's no other way but to tough it through, but soon you'll be on the other side and I think you'll find that the cravings for all those foods will be, if not gone entirely, at least much, much easier to deal with. It has been for me. (BTW, I did my share of crying during pre-op. I had to deal with Thanksgiving and attend a family reunion the day after Thanksgiving. All I got to eat was Protein shakes and salad with no dressing. All with people who didn't know I was having surgery!)
  10. I had my RNY due to the fact I started having horrible side effect from my diabetes meds that I had been on for years. My endo told me that the alternative to the meds was insulin, which he felt would cause me to gain more weight. That was the first time WLS was brought up as an alternative to any meds. The surgeon set a goal weight of 128 pounds. That's highest I could weigh and be in the normal weight range. I would like to lose to about 115-120 (middle of the normal range) as I remember feeling really good at that weight. It's around 20 pounds more than I weighed in high school. I definitely don't want to be that thin again.
  11. I'm in the process of finding out what is causing my kidney stones. It started with a trip to the ER back on March 29th. I was misdiagnosed as having a bladder infection. I had no symptoms of a bladder infection but the ER doc was convinced even tho he told me that the only time he'd seen those symptoms was with chemo, radiation, or cancer. He proceeded to hand me a prescription foe antibiotics and sent me home. After a week of no improvement, I made an appointment at the teaching hospital where I had my RNY. First thing was to rule out an infection as the ER doc didn't do a urine culture. It was , of course, negative. Then came the CT scan that showed a 6 mm stone in my ureter and another in my kidney. I had surgery to remove the stones this past Tuesday and the Urologist found several more stones tucked behind the one in my kidney. I know that the stones aren't caused by my calcium supplements as I've not been put on them as my calcium levels have been above normal since before my RNY. At my last post-op visit, my Vitamin D had taken a huge leap up also. I have my 6 month checkup in June, so it will be interesting to see what my levels are then if the Urologist hasn't figured things out by then. Prior to all this, I had no idea that kidney stones could be a side effect of RNY.

    Average cals

Actually, I have never reached 1000 calories in a day. I aim for around 600 calories a day, but I'm more concerned with getting my Protein in than my calorie count. I typically am exercising a lot. 10,000 steps a day plus three Water aerobics calsses a week and three enhanced fitness classes a week.I have just recently upped my calories from 500 to 600. I'm 20 weeks post-op.
  13. I didn't actually go cold turkey at the time of my Gastric Bypass. I weaned myself off caffeine in July before my surgery in December. I am now allowed to have one cup of "Caffeine Enhanced " beverage a day. I have chosen not to do this as I feel like, for me, that is a slippery slope that will lead to having it all the time. I drink decaf coffee and tea and don't miss the caffeine at all.

    Kidney Stones

After a trip to the ER on March 29th and being diagnosed with a severe bladder infection (a lot of blood in the urine and low abdominal pain), I've spent the last two and a half weeks wondering why, after a week of antibiotics, I was still in pain. It turns out, I never had a bladder infection. I have a very large kidney stone trying to pass with another one still in the kidney. The Urologist seems to think that this is all being caused by my Gastric Bypass.(I'm 18 weeks out) I did some research and it as it seems there are some studies out that back this up. Has any one else been having problems with kidney stones? Or am I just the lucky one?

    What ya eating tonight?

Teriyaki chicken from Panda Express. No rice or noodles. Just the chicken and four small bites of zucchini out of my husband's meal. I got the small a la carte entree and ate about half ( 2.5 ounces).

    Kidney Stones

I had a stent put in yesterday and I'm having surgery to remove both stones on the 28th with my son's wedding sandwiched in between. Hopefully, I'll feel better by May 1st which is my daughter's college graduation.

    Kidney Stones

I drink in excess of 80 ounces of water a day, coffee is extremely limited (and decaf), I don't like the taste of citrus post-op and we can't eat tomatoes in our house due to the fact our daughter has a bleeding disorder and tomatoes make her hemorrhage. Sorry, I'm some what frustrated with the fact that I'm still hurting and if the ER doc had thought about the fact I had no symptoms of a bladder infection instead of telling me about all the dire things that the symptoms I had could mean (ex- bladder cancer), I might have been able to have had this taken care of already. But, my son is getting married next week and I can't afford to take time for the surgical procedure that was suggested before the wedding. So, I'm on a medicine to dilate my ureter so that some of the pressure will be relived and maybe the stone will pass. The Dr said that it would take around 5 days for the med to start working. I'm still on day one. ????

    Make up on DOS?

I didn't wear makeup and after my surgery, I never thought about the fact that I wasn't. I had too much other stuff on my mind.

No gallbladder BEFORE WLS - A little TMI

I had mine out in 1980. No problems before or after my gastric bypass in December.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

I have another one! When I got out of the shower this morning, I found a pair of denim shorts on my bed that my daughter had put there. I tried them on and they fit! Size 14 and best of all... No elastic waist band! ????

    How about some NSVs!?!?

My husband and I went to get new registration tags for the car. I paid with a check so I had to show my driver's license. The clerk looked at the picture, looked at me and said "You look amazing!" She recognized me as having had WLS because her husband also had a gastric bypass and lost 220 pounds!
  22. @@ilikecake2much, Consider yourself Hugged! I am also five feet tall and started this journey at two pounds more that you. I had Type 2 Diabetes, high blood pressure and arthritis. My Endocrinologist was the first person to bring up the subject of WLS, specifically, Gastric Bypass. It took five months of research and soul searching before I went to the informational seminar. Afterwards, my husband and I looked at each other and agreed that I needed to find out the insurance requirement and get started. That was last May. On December 10th, I had my Gastric Bypass. Today, I am rapidly approaching have lost 60% of my excess weigh, I'm off all my diabetes meds and am able to take two exercise classes at the YMCA three time a week with no problems. I also felt the shame you mentioned. But shortly after my surgery, I was feeling so good about myself and the progress I was making, that I'll talk about my RNY to anyone who wants to know more about it! I haven't felt this good in decades! So, do your research, talk to the doctor, put aside what anyone else is telling you, and make your decision based to what YOU feel is best for you and your future health! And here's another hug! You can never get too many of those!

    Stomach Bug

Been there. Done that. Don't want to do it again! Do whatever you need to do to get re-hydrated!!! I was lucky in that my NP prescribed anti-nausea meds for me so I was able to keep my fluids up. I was told not to worry about getting in my Protein until I could keep things down. When I was up to eating again, I was told to start over as if I had just had surgery. Clear liquids, then full liquids for a day or two then "mushies" and back to a regular diet as I could tolerate it. But most importantly...stay hydrated!!! I hope you start feeling better very soon!

    LADIES on METFORMIN for PCOS

I was taken off my spironolactone before surgery and told that I wouldn't be allowed to go back on it post-op.

    LADIES on METFORMIN for PCOS

I was already off of it during weight loss for the insurance company, my blood sugar levels dropped so low I had to stop taking it. That being said, I would have had to stop taking it 48 hours before surgery.
