    Fatty liver

I was diagnosed with fatty liver a year ago. My surgeon told me that when I start the pre-op diet that he might have me on it three weeks instead of the typical two weeks. This is to make sure that my liver shrinks enough.
  3. I haven't even had my surgery yet and have lost enough (33 pounds) that I lost my wedding band in a meatloaf I was making for dinner!

    Today I have surgery

I am so happy to hear that everything went so well! The news about your BP and blood sugar is fantastic! I want to do as well as you have when it's my turn! ????
  5. Finally, after six very long months, I had my final weigh-in today. I have my endoscopy tomorrow at 4:00. Monday, the 17th, I go back to the Bariatric clinic to make sure that I have done everything that needs to be done. Then, off it all goes to Aetna! I can hardly wait to start my pre-op diet as that will mean I'm on my way!
  6. Thank you, Alex! Now, the next time somebody asks me why I have given up caffeine (I'm still pre-op and haven't told anyone outside the family) I can tell them that caffeine makes my acid reflux worse! And that's all they need to know!

    Today I have surgery

Prayer already said! About an hour before your surgery, I have my last Aetna weigh-in. I hope that I'll be following in your footsteps soon! The Lord's got this! Just breathe!

    I was denied!

I just thought I'd let you know that I think that at least the insulin issue is not on the table any more. I had pre-appointment labs done and my A1C was 5.7! At least all this dieting for the last six months has accomplished something!

How do I get this tape residue off?

Years ago when my very young daughter was hospitalized frequently, we used hand lotion to remove the residue from the tape and bandages. Just make sure that you don't get it on your incisions. I noticed in my patient's handbook that the surgeon has a set time post-op before putting anything on the incisions.

    Finally Have a DATE!

WOOHOO!! Congratulations! I'm hoping to get my date in the next 2-3 weeks!
  11. That's why I'm having the RNY. I had three different doctors at three different appointments explain why it was the best choice for me. After doing my own research, I had to agree with them.
  12. My husband and kids know that I'm having an RNY. I also told my sister as she has scheduled her vacation to come visit and I might be having surgery during the time she's here. My husband doesn't want his family told as neither one of us want to hear all the crap we'll get from his oldest sister, Miss Doom and Gloom.
  13. I am on my third PCP and my second Endocrinologist since I started this journey 11 months ago. All of them have been extremely supportive. When my Gastroenterologist read my medical notes he called me to say that he was 100% in favor of the surgery. I think that you'll find your doctor more supportive than you think.

    Protein before surgery?

I've been using protein shakes since May to help with my mandated weight loss program. The Unjury are the third ones that I tried. The Pure Protein from Walmart were too sweet and the Premier Protein got too expensive. I like the flavor of the Unjury and they are easy to change up using Torani sugar free syrups.
  15. To shrink your liver and make the surgery easier.
  16. My pre-op will be four protein shakes made with fat free milk and 3-4 servings of non-starchy veggies each day for 12 days, then just the shakes for the last two.

    I was denied!

Marlowe, I understand completely! My last weigh-in with Aetna is on Tuesday and I just can't seem to lose anything this month. On top of that, I see my endocrinologist on Monday and he's threatening to put me on insulin as I'm starting to have bad reactions to my diabetes meds. The final catalyst that started me down the WLS path was when he told me that I would gain weight on insulin. He's 100% supportive of my having RNY because of this.
  18. My surgeon does a blood test the morning of surgery to check if there is nicotine in your system. If there is, he will cancel your surgery. Luckily for me there are no smokers in the house as living with one is enough to make you fail the test!

    foamies?

Oops, wrong button! Anyway, my patient's handbook addresses this by suggesting that you have a cup of hot water (I'm thinking hot decaf tea) 30 minutes before you eat. The docs there seems seems to feel that this cuts down on "foamies"

    One More Visit

My last visit for my 6 month insurance mandated weight loss program is Tuesday the 11th. On the 17th I go to the Bariatric center to make sure everything is done before submitting it all to the insurance company. It looks like all of us will be close to the same surgery time.

    One more reason!

I'm really still just processing the news! My son kept asking me when my last weigh-in is and I couldn't figure out why. This was why. He knows that I'm stressed about it and didn't want to add to the stress! Now I'm thinking about a grand-baby instead of obsessing about that last weigh-in!
  23. I have lots of reasons behind my decision to have a RNY. Diabetes, PCOS, arthritis, high blood pressure, etc. As of this morning, I have one more. My son called this morning and from the sound of his voice I could tell that he had something to tell his father and I that he was dreading. It turns out that he and his long time live in girlfriend are expecting! We obviously wish that they were married before having a baby (which we are still urging them to do) but I think we shocked both of them by, in their words, not reaching through the phone and killing both of them! So now I have one more VERY important reason to take back my health! I'm going to be a GRANDMOTHER!!

    Protein before surgery?

Oops! Wrong button! I'm using Unjury protein powder to lose weight pre-op and will be evaluated at 6 weeks post-op to see if I still need to use them. But I really like them and don't want to give them up!
