  1. @Girlwithadream welcome to the site.

Getting cold feet is normal as you get closer to your date. Pre surgery anxiety can make you question your decision.

Loose skin is an unknown factor with rapid weight loss. There is no way to know how much you will have until you get closer to goal. Weight lifting can fill in the skin a bit. Plastic surgery is the only way to get rid of it,

Look at the before and after's. For vanity sake, How do people look after weight loss? I would say younger and healthier.......even with loose skin.😉

The nutritionist at my doctor's office is not particularly helpful. I was hoping that someone could give me some guidance as to how many ounces of food I should be eating at one time if I am four months out from a gastric sleeve? Does this amount change later on? If so, when? Thanks so much for any guidance!

Sorry your nutritionist was not helpful

My instructions, three oz of Protein. I added veggies and other item on my plan when I had room to fit it in. I ate slowly and followed my signal of full.

No one can say when you may feel less surgery restriction. It’s different for each of us. My experience - Six months out, I could feel less sleeve restriction. Years out, my sensation of full and food volume is different. I logged and stayed within my weight loss calories and macros. It was a great way to learn the basics.

This plate may help give a visual of volume – follow foods allowed on your plan (starch was not on my plan)

I went back and read your past posts on the site. I'm sorry to hear about your brain and spine surgery in 2016. Was the Bypass in February a revision surgery? Your surgeons office ruled out medical issues, right? Did they give you any instructions on diet logging your food in an app?

    Hi everyone,

I am 3 1/2 out and I am gaining weight. I had lost 180lbs with 20 to go but now I have gained 30lbs. Over the passed 2 years I have had two major surgery that have lifted me not able to excise or eat right. I don't have a nut anymore because he retired. Can someone please tell me how I can get back on track.

  4. All very good points.
For me, it’s about that scary, slippery slope.
I let myself lose it for a couple of weeks and WHAM.... here comes 4 pounds. Gaining that much in such a short time scared me a bit, TBH.

In the past, those 4 pounds would turn into 2, then 3, then another 4 for the sheer heck of it and I’d find myself in a self-hate cycle where I’d “failed” yet once again to live life like “normal” people.

This time I decided that I was gonna own up to every single one of those 4 pounds and drop them before going back into a maintenance mindset.

So that being said, I’ve got great news! I got on the scale this morning and they’re gone.
Plus an extra 0.2 went away with it.
I truly want to defend 145-150 (for now) and it makes me feel sooooo much better knowing I’m just under mid-point.

So guess who gets to eat, drink, and be merry tomorrow?
This girl! Because I worked my butt off this week ditching the “celebrations”

Pre-surgery, I would lose weight and then gain with extra weight. . I had to be brutally honest with myself. My fear regain was not in a healthy place.

You have proven you can work a weight bounce up and down the scale. You are someone that I really don't worry about. You're vigilant but you know you can live life and indulge within reason

Enjoy Christmas. I will be right here with you working down my weight bounce. You are doing fantastic

Dang i started a thread from Hell on this BMI stuff

Seems to be a sensitive subject, Right? It’s interesting to see some judgmental comments coming from people that have been judged for being obese.

Be proud of all your work. Higher or lower BMI you are healthy- No one should be judged for their weight or BMI at goal.

    until GERD kicks in :(

I apologize to the original poster – I’m off topic.

    @AchieveGoals

So, I just checked out ALL your activity on the site. Your comment on this post stuck me as odd.

You said " until GERD kicks in"

You posted ” So a little bit about me, I was lap banded when I was 17 years old, got it taken out when I was 22 because of pouch enlargement. Now I am thinking of getting sleeve done. But the GERD part scares me, it's like exchanging disease states for one to the other. It helps get rid of Diabetes, but you acquire GERD, so severe to the point that people need revisions to another sleeve or another bariatric procedure. I would be scared to get an RNY or a Bypass, I am happy getting a Sleeve (and this was a decision I thought a lot over to even get to it), so the thought of so many revisions due to GERD scares me to even get this done in the first place. It makes me wonder if I will be one of those who undergoes this too, I don't have current GERD right now, sometimes I do get heartburn maybe three times a month, but I'm not taking anything for it chronically. Anyone have any thoughts? Thank you so much!

You are assuming everyone has Gerd on needs revision? Not everyone acquires GERD or needs revision after surgery. Know that many of us have no complications and are doing fine years out. (I’m five years out) Your surgeon would be the one to talk to about having heartburn three months at a time and considering sleeve.

I understand your concerns. Not everyone acquires or automatically has Gerd or needs revision after surgery. Know that many of us have No complications and are doing fine years out. Your surgeon would be the one to talk to about having heartburn three months at a time and considering sleeve.

There are risk and benefits with all types of surgery. Research ad do what’s right for you.

I had to start with a fix to my esophagus and repair a hernia. Now it's my turn to make this work. Before, the foods I was supposed to eat created acid. So I ate the food that didn't create pain. I gain 40 pounds. Now, moving forward with my new revised tool.
Highest weight presleeve: 281 by the time I had courage to get on the scale.

    recorded weight before sleeve: 281
    Weight before this procedure: 231
    Goal weight: 159 to 161
New year and new plan. Goals set and this time I have help.

I’m sorry that you had a rough start. I hope your revision went well. Good things coming your way in 2020. Cheers!

I had a body composition at the nutritionist a few months ago. It seemed accurate based on the findings. I have since lost some weight from 134.4 to 125.5 lbs. but I do NOT feel like I have bulked up muscle, just thinner overall. I am still doing the same basic exercises machines, I haven't even really went up on the resistance or reps. I only make it to the gym maybe once a week. I don't do free weights or heavy weight lifting etc.

Today I used a body composition scale at the local gym and it has my body fat at 15.5%. 3 months ago and 9 pounds heavier I had a body fat of 25% at the nutritionist office. It is 2 different machines so that's why I am questioning the accuracy. My BMI is now 22.4 so within the normal range but not low however according to the scale at the gym my body fat of 15.5% seems really low.

Any thoughts? I don't have plans to go back to the nutritionist so I can't compare the results.

You can ask a trainer or dietician about a healthy body fat range.

Only my opinion, Body composition scales are not 100% accurate. You can buy them online for home use. They are a guideline to work on goals. Are you using body fat %, muscle mass, bone density and Water weight to achieve new goals?

    • Maintain your weight
    • Lose weight
    • Lowering body fat
    • Raising body fat
    • building muscle

So I am seriously considering having gastric sleeve surgery but I'm afraid of what I can eat post surgery. I am not a vegetable eater( I can eat lettuce and maybe raw carrots, that's it...). I'm afraid that this might hinder my success. Anyone out there in the same boat? Have you been successful? Just wondering what others think:) Thanks!!

Its great that you are doing research,

Trust your professionals. consult your surgeon’s office. A Protein only diet may be an issue. You need good nourishment to stay healthy in this process.

My examples may not be something you like. Its to give you an Idea how I eat. I was not a big fan of vegetable pre surgery. Post-surgery, I found ways to cook vegetables that I enjoy.

    • Hamburgers: Lettuce wrapped version - hamburger or turkey burger patty with Tomato and onion. Hamburger salad version: a bowl of shredded lettuce Hamburger/turkey burger, onion, tomato, pickles
    • Chicken/beef fajitas: (no tortilla) with bell peppers and onion.
    • Teriyaki stir fry:(no rice) Stir-fried vegetables Protein of your choice(Chicken/beef/pork/shrimp) and riced cauliflower
    • Pizza: (no crust) Veggies, turkey peperoni, pizza sauce mozzarella. Many healthy substitutes for crust.

Anyway, these are a few examples of what works for me.

  13. I’m not sure if somatotype is accurate – I qualified as endomorph at my higher weight. With weight loss I am a mesomorph

What is your somatotype take this test. Link below

    https://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/becker3.htm

Can knowing your somatotype can change your body composition

    https://inbodyusa.com/blogs/inbodyblog/can-knowing-your-somatotype-help-you-change-your-body-composition/

    ENDOMORPH.

You struggle to lose fat but can usually gain more muscle than the other body types. Strength training should be done to get a better muscle-to-fat ratio, which will help to boost your metabolism. Use moderate weights at a fast training pace, allowing for very little rest between sets and exercises. Get your heart pumping by engaging in some form of daily activity such as brisk walking or biking.

    MESOMORPH.

You have a naturally fit body but, to maintain or improve it, you should adopt an exercise and diet regimen that complements your build. You can strength train more often and for longer periods of time, but be careful not to overdo it. Train with moderate to heavy weights and keep a moderate pace, making sure not to rest too long between sets.

If you train and eat well, you may find you gain muscle quite easily. When you're happy with your muscle size, simply train to maintain. Stick to a good, healthy diet to stay lean and muscular, and watch for any slow-creeping fat gains. Engage in and enjoy aerobic activities, but be careful not to overdo it.

I want too know how and when does your body stop kissing weight?? It's been 8 months out from surgery and I feel I am missing moderately. Which is good. I don't want too be too thin the wind might take me away. Im serious

Your body stops losing weight when you start eating your surgeon’s maintenance diet plan. What is too thin for you?

Im wondering what preworkout foods are good to eat before hitting the gym? I went today and my muscles acted like they werent ready? and my weightlifting was slow to increase today so im thinking more carbs ? or do i need more Protein beforehand? i know carbs are the energy source

call your dietician If you need a different food plan to support your fitness level. Give them your current calories, calories burned, and How much you train per day.

I agree with @Ellf Try eating carbs on your plan with Protein before and after your workout. (after can be a protein shake) Stay within your weight loss calories/carb range to keep your body in weight loss mode.

I am also 2 years out, started at 266, now 190. I am 5'8 female. My goal is 170. I am stuck. Not gaining, but also not losing. I have been stuck for about 8 months. My food intake is still tiny, and my sleeve has never stretched. To be honest, I get fed up with my sleeve, and I hate eating out. I can barely fit in a side salad as a main. I get terrible symptoms of dumping eating steak, chicken or fish. That's exhausting and not very social! I am wondering if I am actually not eating enough, and I am in starvation mode. I am going to go back on to my Optifast shakes to up my Protein. Maybe you should do the same? Get your metabolism fired up again?

    Hugs.

Sorry you are struggling with food tolerance. When was the last time you talked with your surgeon’s office? You might want to give them a call to rule out medical issues.

    Wish you the best,

    Jennifer
