Peaches, I could have written your post (except I am weighing a little more to start with:rolleyes:). However, I think some of the other posters are wrong. First of all, you absolutely can hide the fact that you have a band. I am getting the band on Aug. 6 and no one will know except my parents, my in-laws, and my husband. And I mean that. My husband was banded last Sept. and no one knows. He "covers" his weight loss by telling everyone with truth with an omission. He tells people that he finally got tired of being overweight and that he decided to eat less and move more. I think that if you decide to tell no one, then you stick to it. I have every intention of doing just that. Also, I don't see a need to "wait" for the baby weight to come off. When you know you are ready for the band, you are ready. It doesn't matter if you have 150 pounds to loose or 30 pounds. As for explaining little bites, just tell people you aren't that hungry or that your stomach hurts or what ever else you can think of. I have been surprised how "normal" my husband's eating "looks" since getting the band. I say - Go for it. Don't tell anyone. And feel good about doing about. Anna

First of all, those must be people who have never overweight or have never known the desperation that we have known over weight. Secondly, those are all of my reasons for not telling anyone about getting the band. I have heard and seen people's reactions to others who have gotten the band and it is not pretty! For me, not telling anybody is just going to be the easiest way. When I start back to school three days after my surgery and all of my teacher friends want to go out to lunch, I am going to fake an upset stomach or maybe I will be trying to get over food poison (God forbid!!). anna

I am no expert, but my guess is a cross between nerves and hunger. I know that feeling of "Oh my, is this a gas pain or is this my appendix/gall bladder/kidneys/liver/stomach/spleen/any other organ between my ribs and my hips!" As simple as it sounds, just try to go to sleep and I bet you will feel better when you wake up! Good luck tomorrow!

I can tell you all about this gross part of the band business b/c my dh was banded last Sept. He can eat two or three bites of something and then the fourth bite gets hung and it has to come up. He says you KNOW when something is hung. He usually gets up and tries to walk around, or if no one is watching he jumps up and down:tongue_smilie:. Either it will go on down or he has to throw it up. There are times he eats things that he knows better than to eat and there are times things get hung for no reason. He is not a very graceful or delicate puker, but he looks and feels amazing!! I am getting my band on Aug. 6th so I can join him when he does the bunny-hop in our kitchen!! Good luck to everyone! Anna

I am struggling with the Slimfast myself!! It stinks and it is so thick it just makes me want to gag!! My surgery is the same date! I will be leaving Key West on Sun, Aug. 3 to take my daughter to GA (she is staying w/ my parents) and then driving back to Central FL to fly to San Diego on Aug. 5. Hello! I am getting banded on Aug. 6 also! I am very excited and nervous and all of those feelings I am sure everyone else has. I am supposed to do a pre-op diet of two high Protein shakes twice a day plus a salad and lean cuisine for two weeks prior to surgery. However, I have two issues ... 1) I will be in Key West for lobster season the week before we leave:cool2:. 2) I do no like shakes of any kind!! I am doing a sort of low-carb weight watchers thing and I am losing weight, but I am just worried about getting enough protein post-band. Any ideas?? Thanks, Anna

Wannabthin, we are 11 days post op. You lost 9lbs in 11 days thats good. I have only lost 12 in 11 days. I do drink the protien powder, I buy the muscle milk light at gnc. It tastes ok but it will fill you up. I usually drink it for lunch and then soup for dinner. How do you feel? Do you feel like you have enough energy? Because I felt like poop until i got the powder. hope your husband is ok. Also any thoughts on a fill? TDub

Hi all! i was banded 9/14/07. So far this has been an expernice. I just cant decide if i have done the right thing. My problem is I want to EAT, but I have to be on liquid for 2 more weeks. The only good thing I can say is I have lost 46 pounds from pre-op to now. I do want to be healthy but I love to eat.

I was banded by Dr Ortiz in TJ. 9/14/07. Great experince. When I told my mother I was going to TJ to have it done she freaked. But I let her read all of the boards and info on the web and she cooled off. My best friend was a differnt story. He told me he thought Mex. was a dump, and could not belive any one would go there for a med procedure. My ins. would not pay for it and I was self pay. The money was partly why i went to Mex.,but it was mostly that they would do the surgery so much faster. Their was not a 10 to 12 week wait. It was like a 4 week wait.
