    Bariatricpal scared me shitless

Your just scaring yourself by doing that.. There are way more success stories with this surgery then there are complications/horror stories. You can not let fear drive you away from a healthier life.

    Bariatricpal scared me shitless

I've thought about it a few time's after reading certain thing's here and I'm really nervous about my upcoming surgery September 8th, But the thing to really get my by was Instagram lol. As funny as it is There are a lot of young people on Instagram who have has WLS including Sleeve and are doing great I love going through and seeing all the success. If a 15 year old can go through it so can I. With that all being said, I think someone here had said something along the lines of "Most people who post here are going to post about the bad side of WLS because they need help and are looking for advice, People who are doing well are less likely to post about their success and have less questions so you rarely hear from them" So your more likely to see the negative/scary stuff in other words...

    Pocket Protein?

Found this on the Pocket Protein Facebook page!... Question was "what's the difference between the woman/mens PP?" Answer from the company: "the only difference between the men and the women is 5 grams of protein and the flavor. You'll be fine with the mens version! A % of proceeds will go towards grants to help the less fortunate get the gastric surgery they need." How awesome is that!?

  9. Like you I to have been able to live the last 20 year's of my life overindulging with the only downside being that I was Fat, No other health related issues so it never really seemed like that big of a deal. I'm only 24, So that may be the only factor I have in being a healthy fat person (If there ever was such a thing) is my age and I feel as though if I don't address it now then later on down the road I'll run into health issues eventually. That and my insurance is willing to pay the bill now so why wait! Not sure how I'll feel the day of, But I'm ready to start the process and get my life underway.. Good Luck!
  10. Only now that I decide to get WLS does my Husband declare his LOVE for BBW's by liking every Plus Size FB page. He knows I can see them, I feel like he's dropping hints..WTF..

Is it possible because you're a BBW that he felt other men would'nt be interested in you, and now w/ WLS that will change, and vice versa ?

Have you considered marriage counseling with a therapist? That might help get the communication going again.

@@JustJaime5 Excited and nervous. My first and only appointment was in May since then I gained 4lbs, I wasn't required by my insurance to lose any weight before surgery. When I went in for the pre-op class they weighed me and didn't say anything about my weight.

    Pocket Protein?

I said the same thing, No difference but the calorie count and protein. Might as well get the Male one for the added protein!

I have not tried it yet, But I think I might order myself some for after surgery. @@BeagleLover I didn't realize you were from Maryland, I was raised in Cecil County (Hour from Philly, Hour from Baltimore).
  15. @@Juba yes I'm in the US, and it's perfectly ok to send it through the mail.
  16. @@BitterSweet I plan on doing at least a week of the liquid diet on my own because of that very reason, plus might as well get into the flow of things beforehand.. I also just went ahead and ended my birth control on my own, I'll ask him about restarting it after surgery. Thanks for thinking of me
  17. @@Juba would you be interested in sending it my way?
  18. @@BitterSweet I feel a little more comfortable with it now that I took the class and talked to the nurse practitioner that works with him. He's been in business for a number of years and has a good reputation from other medical professionals and people I talk to on here who have used him. I know other surgeons don't do the drain, but it was surprising to me that none of his patients have a liquid diet before surgery..He simply doesn't believe it them.
  19. Just putting it out there, It's not impossible to grow a normal healthy baby early on after surgery.. A few people I know got pregnant within the first 4 months, one was 6 weeks pregnant when she had the surgery (had no idea) and gave birth to a healthy child. I don't recommend it, but if it did come up don't feel as though you are guilty. As far as birth control goes my surgeon didn't say anything about it, I emailed the insurance coordinator a few weeks back and asked if I should keep taking it or stop 2months before surgery like a lot of people online say they do. She said "You'll find out about that during the pre-op class, that was last Tuesday and it was never mentioned and dumb me forget to bring it up. I feel as though my surgeon breaks all these rules like my surgery is a same day procedure, none of his patients have a liquid diet before surgery or a drain afterwards. So he probably had no rule regarding birth control.

    Dr. Alexander Abkin

My surgery is scheduled for September 8th in the FP surgical center, it's being done as an outpatient procedure (so long as everything goes well) and from what I understand all of Dr.Abkins patients are outpatient, at least that's what they led me to believe in the pre-op class last week..

    Ugh my Mother!

Me and my mom have been at each other's throats since my decision to get WLS back in May. My first choice was the Lap Band and she was alright with that and almost seemed happy for me, after I read more about the band and complications I chose the sleeve and after my decision she's been argumentative and angry towards me. My own mother told me she was not going to support me at all with my decision. My surgery is September 8th and I'm still going for it with or without her, I believe once she sees I'm ok and my success she will be alright.
  22. Had my Pre-Op class yesterday, I assume it was informative but I felt like I already knew most of the information that was given. 3 more weeks left.

Hopefully the bariatric meetings you go to will always add new information for you.

I go every month and there is a different speaker there each month and it's geared to the new pre op people and also the vetertans of post op.

I hope you get what you want from it.

  23. Just as I'm becoming comfortable with my decision to get the sleeve I find negative comments on my Surgeon, One including DEATH and the family won the lawsuit! I looked for reviews before and couldn't find anything, So i worded my question different tonight in Google and I came up with a pretty significant list of negative reviews that make me really nervous.I mean should I be concerned about reviews from online?, Don't most Drs and Surgeons have negative reviews and malpractice claims? I don't know what to do guy's. I thought I had this all figured out and now I'm not too sure... http://www.vitals.com/doctors/Dr_Alexander_Abkin/reviews

    vitamins, vitamins vitamins!

The taste of the Flintstone vitamins made me gag now at pre-op, so I'm a little worried about the taste of them post op.
