Where are my maryland sleevers?
My personal trainer just came by to take measurements and percentages - in the last year, on top of losing 96 pounds (so far), I've lost over 25 inches around my whole body and I've dropped 8% in body fat just since May. What a great way to start the day!! Happy Thursday everyone!

Where are my maryland sleevers?
I don't mind. I lost 30 pounds before surgery and so far 62 pounds since surgery (surgery date: 4/21/2014).

Congrats!! That's awesome and I've only had the one session so far but I'm hoping to avoid plastics as well. Fingers crossed!! Thanks everyone for your input!

Where are my maryland sleevers?
She really was. She did the initial free seminar I went to and I was immediately drawn into her warm and knowledgeable demeanor. I just had my 3 month followup with her and she is super happy and supportive and really encouraging.

Personal trainer
I day I start with a personal trainer. I'm a little over 3 months post-op - was sleeved on April 21, 2014. I've only been doing cardio, for the most part - walking, treadmill, elliptical and now doing the couch-to-5K app outside since the weather is gorgeous. The problem is that I know nothing about strength and weight training and I'm not the kind of person who can watch a YouTube video to work on it - I need a teacher, I need actual guidance - someone to tailor something for my needs, watch my form and most importantly - keep me accountable!! I'd prefer not to have any more surgery and I think the best way to avoid cosmetics/plastics is to really kick the weight training in/up. I found a number of people online and she seemed the most reasonable and she actually got me in touch with another bariatric client of hers, which made me feel great!! I'm nervous! Maybe that's weird but I'm nervous. The idea of failure is always sitting in the back of my mind - can I do this? Will I bail? I don't meet with her until 7 and I've been awake since 4!! Has anyone else gone the personal training route? Pros? Cons?

What fitness related EVENT are you training/preparing for?
It might have been a fluke but I'm pretty proud nonetheless!! Today's jog/walk was slower, about 14min/mil, but I'm gonna chalk that up to being sore from my first day of yoga yesterday lol Thanks!! Congrats on your progress too!!

What fitness related EVENT are you training/preparing for?
I'm training for the Dirty Girl Mud Run 5K in Baltimore in August, at the moment! It'll be my first 5K ever so I'm super excited!! I've been working with the C25K training app and I love it! I averaged less than 12 minutes a mile this morning... Considering this time last year, I took 25 minutes to walk a mile, I'm pretty flipping happy... I jogged/walked 2.8 miles in 30 minutes. Yay me! 5K, I'm coming for you!#bringonthemudrun #nowIneedtoworkonthesenoodlearms

Labor day Challenge
The batteries on my scale died just before I went away for the weekend. I was only able to stp by CVS this morning on the way to work to pick up new ones. Now I keep thinking about it. I want to go home and weigh myself, darn it! Granted, I may not be happy with what the number - it's been a rough few weeks and I feel like I've fallen off the wagon - but I want to know where I stand at the moment as I get my a$$ back into gear! #endvent

Any April Sleevers?
Hey everyone, We've hit the 12 week/3 month mark.... How is everyone doing? Because I enjoy emotional spewing and sharing, I'll give an update and I hope to see some of yours!! Yesterday was my 32nd birthday This has been an awesome and incredible year. This time last year, my awesome family and friends got together to throw me an epic, Hawaiian luau themed surprise party. It really was a fabulous surprise and such an incredible birthday. So I felt that the year started off well. Unbeknownst to me, I was an undiagnosed/untreated hypertensive diabetic that had just hit over 300 pounds (301 was my highest recorded weight). I would find all this out about 2 weeks after my 31st birthday. It was one of the lowest points of my life. I was devastated. But I stopped there. I cried for a weekend and then said "Enough." A year later, I am no longer hypertensive or a diabetic. The only pills I take are vitamins and minerals. I am down 88 pounds as of yesterday and I look flipping incredible (if I say so myself). I've got another 60 lbs until I reach my goal but for the first time in my life-long dieting career, I no longer doubt myself. I know I will reach that goal. I know that I will keep myself healthy. Part of my journey included having weight loss surgery. I had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy on April 21, 2014. (I've lost 58 pounds in the 12 weeks since surgery) It is a decision that I believe is saving my life. It was one of the hardest decisions to make. Every day is a struggle and hard work. The hard work tripled after surgery. It's not been easy and I do not regret a single moment of it. I am more determined now than I ever was before to make me a priority in my life - my health, my happiness, my future. It's been a lesson a long time in coming but it's one I'm grabbing onto with both hands. Next stop - 100 pounds lost and weighing below 200 lbs. I think I can do this over the next 4 weeks but I am giving myself until Labor Day. I'm trying to manage expectations throughout this process to make sure I don't get discouraged and I think I have been doing well with that. I'm fortunate to have friends and family that have been super supportive and being a part of this community and other fitness/weight loss communities has been inspiring and motivational. Keep kicking ass!
