NSV - Non-scale victories :)
When I first started this journey back in August 2013, I weighed 301 pounds and according to my BMI of 50.1, I was "super obese." Now, 61 pounds later, I have a BMI of 39.9 and am *just* "obese." I also got a call from my PCP - she said my bloodwork confirmed that I no longer have to continue my diabetes or hypertension medication and that my bloodwork looks fabulous. The only thing I need to do is get my good cholesterol up and I can do that with exercise - which has been happening 4-6 days a week since surgery so I think I'm on the right track. Still have a ways to go but it's nice to see the results in so many various "weighs." From giving away clothing, putting on dresses that didn't fit for a good long while and now seeing things like my BMI and being off some medication. I'm sure that I'll hit a stall soon, or there will be bumps in the road but I'm trying not to focus on the negative and really just focus on the good news. And be happy. It's a novel experience, really. Hope everyone is having a good Thursday! Holiday weekend is almost here!!!

Post-op update and photo(s) :)
To be fair and honest, I lost 30 pounds before surgery and then 30 pounds since surgery. I think that the working out and keeping hydrated really make the biggest difference in the way the weight has shifted and how my skin glows! it's just incredible

Funny story about the dress - at least in hindsight!! I actually purchased 3 or 4 dresses for this wedding - I didn't know what size I was going to be, what would look good, what would actually work. So I spent a couple of weeks ordering things online - all plus size retailers - getting everything together for my drive up to NY. I'm 3 hours into my 4 hour drive, crossing through Staten Island (from Maryland) and realized that I left allllllll the dresses hanging up in my apartment, right next to my door. I remembered everything else but completely forgot the actual dresses!!! Needless to say, I was panicked! I couldn't believe it. My weekend was so busy that I had maybe 2 or 3 hours total, across two days, to find a dress and accessories. I was freaking out, big time. However, I found this dress finally. 2 hours at Lord & Taylor and Nordstroms and this was the last dress I tried on and it was perfect. Better than anything I had forgotten at home! Somehow, it all worked out in the end :)

Thank you!! I got it last minute, at Nordstroms, in the regular women's section! An XL but I didn't need to go to the plus size section, so that was fabulous!

Post-op update and photo(s) :)
So I'm 4 weeks post-op and I'm feeling great. I had a crazy, busy, fun weekend with a big family dinner to Celebrate multiple birthdays and then a wedding. I felt fabulous, I looked fabulous. I had some pain eating a little bit - not chewing enough, trying some new things - but I was able to walk it off and I danced my behind off at the wedding. I received so many compliments on my dress, on how I looked and everyone just said I glowed. It was pretty wonderful. Here is a little before and after photo. The green dress is from June 2013 at my highest weight of 301. The black dress is from last night, 60 pounds lighter. (30 pre-op, 30 post-op) I love the transformation so far and can't wait to take more pictures - and I never recall saying that before haha There are more before and after photos on my profile. Feel free to take a peak!! All the best, Hana

APRIL 21st Sleevers!
Just had a great 3-week post op visit with my surgeon and nutritionist. Down 27 pounds from last visit, 22 from surgery. Down 37 pounds from the start of the pre-op diet 5 weeks ago. Suspending diabetes and hypertension medication (hopefully to never start again!!). I'm the lightest I've been in at least 5 years. Healing well, working out. Feeling good, looking good, kicking butt and taking names!! ???????????? Still working on getting fluids and Vitamins in but my nutritionist says I'm where I'm supposed to be and as long as I keep trying, that's the key. Today is a happy day! I hope it's the same for all of you!! Hana ????

APRIL 21st Sleevers!
Eggs don't seem to agree with me on my second day of soft solid foods. Threw up for the first time since surgery two weeks ago. Ugh.

Any April Sleevers?
Today has been rough and it's only 1230pm. I'm on my second day of soft solids and they've been sitting pretty heavy but I didn't have any big problems yesterday. Today I tried a scramble egg with a bit of laughing cow cheese. It sat like a rock at the top of my stomach. I didn't feel well. I figured I could walk it out and it'd get moving. So I went to the gym to work out a little but but was so uncomfortable the entire time. Finally, I have in, walked to my car and promptly threw up in the parking lot. It sucked. It's the first time, since surgery two weeks ago, that I've felt so gross and sick and actually got sick! Now I feel off and just ugh. I hope my mood picks up a little.

APRIL 21st Sleevers!
Today is my first day trying semi/soft solids. I am eating some rotisserie chicken with Greek yogurt, salt, pepper an cayenne for seasoning. It's actually pretty good. I'm making sure I chew it well, even after unused a chopper to blend it all together. This morning was Greek yogurt, then a chocolate-peanut butter Protein shake (they're heaven!!) and now this chicken salad. So far, so good. I'm down to 249.4 which is 17.6 pounds down from my surgery date so I'm super excited! How's everyone feeling?

Memorial Day Challenge

APRIL 21st Sleevers!
The first few days after surgery, I was recovering at my parents place and mom made lasagna. Even though I wasn't hungry or really craving it, I has visions of diving face first into that platter and swimming around in it lmao

APRIL 21st Sleevers!
Hey all the April 21st sleevers! How is everyone hanging in there!? We are about 10 days post-op and I'm curious how everyone progressing. How are we all feeling? What are we eating? Anyone working out yet? I've been feeling good. Still dealing with incision pain but am definitely happy to see most of my gas pain gone!! That was horrendous!! I subsist on cottage cheese, Protein shakes, Water, diet Snapple and broth. I keep telling myself I'll get creative and make protein pudding or eat the Popsicles in the freezer but then I forget lol I actually have started working out! I've been walking the dog everyday, 5-6 times a day and then started the elliptical yesterday. As long as I focus on controlling and keeping my upper body still, I don't exacerbate my incision pain and feel great! The emotional head game is never ending. Though I'm not hungry, I find myself wishing to dive, face first, into my mom'a lasagna. Mind you, a fourth cup of cottage cheese takes a whole to get down but this head hunger is wicked. I didn't have a scale here at my parents, where I'm recovering, and finally broke down and bought one. I was super happy at the results!! I was worried, despite feeling the changes in my body - my head really plays tricks on me!! I'm now at 254!! I was 267 the day of surgery and my highest weight was 301, back in August 2013, when I started this journey! I started the pre-op liquid diet at 282. In total, I'm down 47 pounds from my highest weight and 28 pounds since my pre-op started on 4/8 (3 weeks, 1 week-ish post-op) How is everyone else doing? Everyone hanging in there ok? Hope you're all doing well!!!

Where are my maryland sleevers?
Hey all!! I'm a newly sleeved Marylander (NY transplant). I was sleeved in Baltimore by Dr. Katherine Lamond on Monday, April 21st. I live in Annapolis and work in College Park and would love to find people in any of those areas for support/work out buddies/recipe swaps (for when I actually get to eat!). Surgery went well, gas is almost completely gone - thank goodness!! I'm dealing with some incision pain still but it's not too terrible. I've been walking a lot, even got on an elliptical briefly at the gym! I'm feeling great and losing weight, seeing differences in my body and am just generally excited about this journey (though also probably as anxious as well lol)

Gallbladder - Complication of Surgery
I haven't had this (only 9 days out from surgery) but I was told this is common. My surgeon starts us on Actigall two weeks after surgery, for 6 months to try and avoid fall bladder complications. Sorry you're dealing with this! Good luck!
