UHC issues
Congrats. Sure was a long time coming for you. You are one strong, determined lady. Hope you get your surgery date very soon. You've done enough waiting. I have UHC CHoice Plus and my experiences was nothing like yours. I think I would have gone crazy if that happened to me. I started my journey on April 28, 2014, paperwork sent to insurance May 28th and approved June 4. I am having my surgery July 8th.

Only doing pre-op the day before surgery
My surgery is July 8th and I don't have to do any special diet. They told me to eat light the night before surgery. I think that I will try to do a couple of weeks liquid diet before so I have a nice slender liver. Good luck everyone.

Any july sleevers?
July 8th for me. I don't have to do any diet before, just eat a light meal the night before. I am having a colonoscopy the end of June and I have to be on liquids for the day before that, so I think I will just stick with liquids until the day of surgery. I have already given up carbonated drinks. Now I need to practice not drinking Water 30 mins before and after eating. Good luck to everyone. I am so excited I could bust.

It's a go!
A week ago today my surgeon's office submitted my paperwork to UHC for pre-certification. I called my insurance today to see if they received it and they not only received it, but they have approved me for surgery. Now I have to wait for my surgeon's office to open for the day and call them to get a surgery date. I can't believe that this is really going to happen. I am so excited that I am shaking. I can't wait to start my new, healthy life. I just knew it was going to be a great day today, my grandson turned 18. Now if we would just get an offer on our house the day would be complete.

UHC
Kimmy32763 I also have UHC Choice plus and all I had to do was meet with a psych., and have a 5 year history of being obese. I didn't have a record of being obese 5 years in a row, so I sent them my records from 1993-1998 and 2011-2014. During the combined years I had 8 years that I was obese. I hope they accept that. I haven't heard whether I am approved or not yet. Good luck to you.

What would you do?
I agree with LipstickLady. Your new life begins now and you might as well learn how to live in it. Instead of worrying about food, just enjoy everything going on around you and socialize. Keep your eye on the prize. You can do this.

So excited!
Congrats. Now go find somewhere to wear that little black dress and have fun.

UHC
Good luck soniaj. I am also waiting for approval from UHC. Paperwork was submitted May 28th. On Friday May 30th I got a call from a UHC nurse wanting to know my surgery date so he could do a surgical admission consultation with me. I told him I didn't have a date and I hadn't been told I had been approved yet. He said oh, well I am on vacation next week, so I will call you back the following week. I am thinking that I did get approved, but the information hasn't reached my surgeon's office yet. I will give them until Wednesday, then I will call and see if they have heard. I sure hope I am approved. This waiting is the worst. I just want to move on to the next step.

Clean Plate Syndrome
I know just what you mean. I also grew up in the era of the Clean plate club. If I didn't eat my dinner in a timely manner, I would get it again for Breakfast the next day. Our parents meant well, but didn't know how it was damaging us. I haven't had my surgery yet, hoping to get approval this week. Good luck with the puree. Can't wait until I am eating pureed foods.

How long was it between the time you started the process and actual surgery?
Had my first visit with surgeon April 28th, pysch on May 20th, paperwork sent to insurance May 28th and now I am waiting to get approval. Hey Ladykatie_ my surgeon is Dr. Welle in the same office as your surgeon. Did you get your surgery at TMC? What was the prep that you had to do? How are you doing since your surgery?

Bariatric Bullies--You know who you are!
Great post. Most of us that grew up heavy were bullied enough and don't need it now.

The wait begins
Looks like we get to be nervous all weekend Bobby46. Let's keep thinking positive thoughts that we both will be approved and will hear the beginning of next week.

The wait begins
I just got call from a nurse with United Health Care wanting to do my surgical admissions counseling. He asked me when my surgery date is and I told him that I didn't have one yet. I was still waiting for approval from UHC. He told me that he would call me back in a couple of weeks and see if I have a date yet. I wonder if this means that the UHC might just be approving me, but he let it out of the bag early. Fingers and toes are all crossed. Feeling very hopeful.

time is flying by
Good luck with your surgery in July. I am hoping for a July date, when I get my insurance approval. I have been going back a forth over whether I really need to do this, and the answer is yes!

The wait begins
Hi Lynn, They don't require 6 months supervised weight control program, which I am happy about. As far as co-morbid conditions I have arthritis. I agree with you, with my history you would hope they would figure surgery would be better for me. I have been with the same insurance company since 2000. I just noticed that you have your surgery date coming up very soon. Does your surgeon have you on a liquid diet? Good luck with your surgery.

The wait begins
Just called my surgeons office and they told me they sent my paperwork to my insurance company Wednesday. I hope it gets approved, but do have my doubts. I have UHC Choice plus and they require BMI 40 or above, psych eval., and 5 years of being obese. I have the first 2 requirements with no problem. The third requirement is might be a problem. As with most overweight people my weight has been up and down through the years. I lost over 100 lbs between 2005 and 2006 and my BMI was in normal range. I started to gain back my weight and was once again obese in 2011. That only gives my 4 years. Back in 1993 I lost over 100 lbs and by 1995 was once again obese. I included all the notes from the doctors office from 1993-1998 and am hoping that those, along with my doctor notes from 2011-2014 will be enough to convince insurance to approve me. Keeping all my fingers and toes crossed. I don't want to have to self-pay.

Protein while traveling & Disney Dining
Great post. I will be going to WDW later this year. I hope to have my surgery in July, still waiting to hear from insurance. I was wondering what dining would be like. I'm glad that they honor the card we get from our surgeons. It will be so nice to be able to fit in all the rides without worrying or worse, the seat belt not fitting. Good luck everyone.

Question on timeline
I had my meeting with my surgeon the end of April, saw the psych on May 20th. Now I am waiting for my surgeons office to submit to insurance. If all goes well I could have surgery beginning of July. Keep on reading everything you can get your hands on. I even went on YouTube to watch videos that people have made to show their journeys. I just put VSG surgery in the YouTube search bar and started watching. Good luck and hope you don't have to wait too long.

Anyone Just Starting the journey?
I'm also a newbie. Met with my surgeon the end of April and the psychologist May 21st. My insurance requires me to be obese for 5 years and see the psychologist. My weight has been up and down all my life so I don't have records of being obese 5 years in a row. I hope they just mean proof of 5 years of being obese. My surgeons office should be sending my paperwork to my insurance tomorrow. This waiting is killing me. One thing I have been doing is researching VSG. I have read books on it, and have watched loads of Youtube videos. It's good to see all sides of this surgery and watching peoples journeys. Good luck to everyone.

May 21 surgery
Can't wait until I get my surgery. I am hoping the insurance company doesn't keep me waiting for an answer too long. Glad you are doing good and are going home soon. Hope this wind dies down soon. It is blowing like crazy down here in Green Valley.
