  1. Good morning!

I'n 29 days from surgery...I can't remember if you gave me your surgery date. (and remind me where you're from? I've been on so many forums/FB that I'm a little overwhelmed by all the information.

I didn't have to 'apply' for surgery. Maybe the surgeon's office does that? I feel badly for all the people waiting to hear from their insurance companies after doing so many weeks for dieting, tests, psych evaluations. Did you have to have one? Just curious.

  2. I am also from Fort mcmurray!

That's awesome! Good to know there is someone local just in case! You never know when you might need some in person support.

And yeah it would be great to have a Canadian sleevers thread!

Hey, I've just opened one called Canadian Girls....let's fill it up!

  3. Originally from Nelson BC, but have been in Fort McMurray AB for the last four years.

I am also from Fort mcmurray!

Hey guys, we need some sort of Canadian place to meet up. I'm having a difficult time finding us girls online. When are your surgeries? Mine is May 28th. I'm from Victoria, BC.

  4. Oh it's so exciting to meet another Canadian!! Are you having the sleeve? When do you start your pre-op diet? Sorry for all the questions, it's just interesting to see if our experience will be the same or not.

I love questions lol I start the Optifast on May 14th and I'm dreading it lol the surgeon said most likely sleeve because I have less than 100 lbs to lose. How about yourself? Where abouts are you in Canada hun?

Hey! I already know I'm having the sleeve. My surgeon puts us on a diabetic boost or glucerna, with Water only, liquid dieat for 1 entire month! They thought my surgery would be sooner so I've already been on it since the 17th!!!!!!!!!! It does get easier as it goes along. I'm losing .5lb a day average. I'm wanting to lose less than 100ibs also. I live in Victoria, BC. Where do you hail from?

  5. My surgery is May 28th. I'm already on the liquid diet...Glucerna (meal replacement) and Water. That's it. It seems kind of harsh compared to other 'pre-op' diets I've read about here. I'm fortunate, my BC medical covers the entire cost of the surgery. I live in Canada.

Hi fellow Canadian! I'm also in Canada, near Toronto, and my surgery date is May 28th :D

  6. If you want to voluntarily do a pre diet you dont want to go to just Water. Your body needs fuel to operate and stay healthy for the surgery. My preop diet was 2 Protein shakes a day and a dinner consisting of 4ozs of chicken, turkey or fish and a green vegetable(no butter or sauces)

The preop diet is for one main reason. For your liver to lose its excess fat. During surgery the surgeon has to lift your liver out of the way to get to your stomach. A fatty liver is stiff and brittle and can be damaged very easily when they move it. When its lean it is soft and pliable.

Also when your body loses weight, the internal organs are the first place to lose the fat.

Thanks for the info on the liver. I have never know anything about it other than the liver needs to be smaller.

  7. I haven't had my surgery yet but my nutritionist told me that drinking can be very dangerous after the surgery because our bodies just can't process the alcohol like it used to. She said I could get drunk after just a bit of wine. She warned this was a slippery slope. I happen to love wine, so this is something I'll have to deal with.

  8. Hi, I'm pretty new to the forum. Just got my surgery date for May and insurance approval on Friday The surgery coordinator said I had to follow a four-week pre-op liquid diet. She said this was a new requirement. I checked many forums and WLS materials all said 2-weeks. Anyone else required 4 weeks instead of 2?

Hi! I live in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. I have a surgery date of May 28th and am already on the liquid diet. For my surgeon it is a 4 week thing, I was just told early when I was having the surgery done, so they suggested I go ahead and start. For me it's Glucerna, and Water, or flavoured Water. That's it. I'm losing about a pound a day. I'm not finding it difficult. I think it's my thought that it's just a warm up for the real way I will be eating...it makes it easier.
