Turned in my letter of recommendation from my primary care physician today. Dr's office sais it was fine. I only have one more nutrition visit left on September 9th then I'll get a date. Already had my exercise classes, 12 day liquid diet to go also. They say still possible for a late September date still. I hope so. Getting more real to me. Can't hardly stand these last two weeks of waiting. Lol. Very ready to begin my journey and start my new life and start working out and being healthy!

I just found out I was approved by my insurance on Tuesday. So, started the liquid diet Thursday since Wednesday was my 60th birthday. This is day 2 of liquids only and I have a killer headache. I'm sure it's just detoxing but it hurts! Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. My surgery date is 9-2-15.

Thank goodness my date is Sept 3. Just found out I have high blood pressure & had to start on high cholesterol meds. If ever there was a need for this surgery it's now.

I just got off the phone with the surgeon's office… I'm officially on the schedule for September 8th!!! And I've also put in my leave request at work and scheduled my pre-op visit with the surgeon & nutritionist for August 20th. I'll get more details then, but at my initial visit they told me that they do a 2 week pre-op low carb diet.
I can't believe this is really happening! I'm so excited!!

It is funny how different every program seems to be! The headache might be from caffeine withdrawal. Either way (carbs or caffeine), the headache should go away in a day or 2! I've been low carb off and on for years, so I'm glad that's our program!

@@ExplosiveAmnesia I get what you are saying about the psychological aspect of weight loss/maintenance. Here are the differences for me.
In the past, I have successfully lost weight through diet and exercise many times. My most successful "diet", I lost 90 pounds in one year (more than I lost in my first year post-WLS). The way I lost those 90 pounds was to literally track every single bite of food that I ever ate and every minute of exercise I ever did. I had a BodyBugg to help with tracking my calorie burn every day. I had to be perfect and meticulous and it worked!
However, that's not a realistic way for someone to live their entire life. No one can be prefect every day forever, especially not me! One of the main things that sustained me mentally through that period was the belief that one day I would be "done" and that I wouldn't have to keep tracking every single thing I ate and did every single day for the rest of my life... just until I reached goal.
With my sleeve, I still have to eat right 95% of the time. I still have to exercise regularly. But I don't track my food every day. If I miss a day of exercise here and there, I don't beat myself up about it. I don't have the same "all or nothing" mentality that I did in the past, because I know my sleeve is forever. I'm not going to be "done". There is no end in sight. This is my new life and I will just live like this every day. So if I miss a day of exercise or I eat something "bad" one day, it's only one day in the grand scheme of my whole life. It has allowed me to have a much more realistic outlook and not be so OCD. So it has definitely helped me with the psychological component as well.
Also, I've really had to find other ways of processing and dealing with my emotions. When I was on diets in the past, I could technically still eat my emotions when things got really bad, I just tracked it all and tried to make up for the extra calories with exercise. So the opportunity to eat my emotions was still there.
With my sleeve, I couldn't eat my emotions if I wanted to, so I really did have to find other ways of coping.

I tell everyone, and if they don't like it they can go suck it, I'm doing it for me not them. That being said I have only had overwhelming support from people I've told.
It's up to you who you tell and if you tell people, there is no right answer, it is a very personal thing so it is completely understandable to not want to tell people.
Like other people said, if you are not wanting it to become public knowledge, be very careful with who you tell, you can't untell people

So after being a spectator on this site for 6 months while waiting to meet the requirements of my insurance, I now feel like more "part of the in crowd" with my surgery scheduled on September 8th. My first feeble post was like dipping my toes in the water; that I was scheduled and feeling excited and terrified all at the same time. The six months flew by...seriously, I thought it would be the opposite, that the wait would be tortuous....but alas, I'm literally counting the days and now my brain is drawing a panicked blank. I'm having nightmares that I wake up and the surgery "didn't take." After all, it's awfully hard to absorb the concept of how the surgery will limit my eating. Right? I'm right, aren't I? Surely others feel the same way? When it comes to food, I am driven by two gears: hungry and stuffed. And, despite the fact that I have previously been very successful at losing weight and equally successful at gaining weight, it's still a hard concept to grasp. So I'm sure it's quite normal to have difficulty believing that eventually, 1/4 a cup of food will fill me up. It seems so unreal. Sigh...I guess it's part of that emotional roller coaster of understanding and conceptualizing the gravity of surgery. I'm optimistic that my brain will catch up by time that date rolls around in a couple of weeks...

Another test in patience (as if we haven't had enough, right?) I had all of my evals scheduled in the first part of May in honest hopes of having my surgery in July - My surgery was finally scheduled last week for September. I've learned that you can do all that is humanly possible to move the process along and it still won't happen until the doctor's office get all of their surgical clearance reports to your surgeon. The waiting can be frustrating, but it did give me time to do MORE WLS research and MORE honest soul searching to know, without a doubt, that I am on the right path. Hang in there!

Thanks. The nurse told me months. It's a wait and see game at this point. I have all my evaluation scheduled for this month, which is what she said takes months, so... maybe early October for me? This is such a roller coaster.

When you go shopping, I recommend restraint till you understand how your taste buds may change. I tried to be prepared, too. My taste buds changed so drastically, I didn't like most of what I bought (and normally liked.) Loved cherry flavor before...hated it after surgery. Loved chocolate flavor before...hated it after. Loved lemon flavored before surgery...hated it after. I had to send friends out shopping for vanilla everything.....pretty much. I would recommend buying enough for a cpl days and if your taste buds stay the same, send someone shopping at that point. That way if they change and you hate what you've stocked, you're not out that much $$. I still have pudding in my fridge, Soups in my pantry, and my surgery was in April. I won't touch it still. Next food drive out they go! So much for being prepared, lol. ????, I wasn't prepared for my taste buds to change so drastically. I still get dry heaves at the thought of having to eat those flavors. Just a thought I felt I should pass on. ???? Hope it helps.
