    Labs 3 years out

I attended my monthly support group meeting today. And suppliments were part of the conversation. Statistic suggest that most of us will quit taking supplimants within 2 years after surgery. Examples, were given for why this is not a good idea and the damage can be hard to fix. My Doc stated one must take a mutivitamin/multimineral, b12, Calcium and Iron daily for life. He does not care what brand you perfer (aka costco is fine).

    Anxiety and Irritability

Go talk with your doc. I use to take the same med for years. Since surgery, I am off all medications. Always use to be a sleep problem for me and now I sleep great.
  5. Bypass is the most perform surgery out of the 3. It is also carries the most risk and side effects. The band is now falling out of favor with the sleeve gaining popularity. Do your research, talk with people that have had the different surgeries and decide which is best for you. I recommend attending a local support group that meets in your area. It was in this setting I found the most help. Bariatric Pal is OK, but nothing close to face to face communication. Plus the primary intent of BP is to market the web site not provide accurate information and support.

    May 28 sleever.Need mentor /Buddy

I am guessing you can take anything you normally would for the flu. However, with the flu most cant hold anything down.
  7. You have it easy, my doc insists on an hour after eating. It actually helps me space my meals.
  8. I now my eyes are way bigger than my stomach. Yesterday, I fixed breakfast with 2 eggs and about 1/2 cup of refried beans. Could only eat half of it, so the dog made out. Today, I was very hungry at breakfast time and cooked the same amount and again I couold only eat half and the dog made out.Moral to the story, if you listen to your eyes the dog will get fat or the dog likes my new diet.
  9. I think most of us at post-op can relate. I gained 10 pounds during the surgery process. Post Op am losing about 5 lbs a week so far.
  10. Just another reason for the 85% divorse rate after bariatric surgery.

    I miss food

I have not noticed any changes in taste, but my sense of smell has become very intense. For example, with my better sense of smell I have learned my pretend goody two shoe neighbors smoke dope. I doubt it was their 6 and 8 year olds.

    Obese Kids

The odds go up for obese parents raising obese kids. After read many posts on this site there are many that don’t know their way around a kitchen and migrate to the prefab crap. If this is what the kids learn then staying at a correct weight will be difficult. I gained my weight later in life and as a family we always ate dinner at the dining room table. No TV or other distractions. We also shopped the perimeter of the grocery store. Very little was what I call prefab food. It was always interesting when my kids brought friends over for dinner. Guests had to select what to eat out of what was served. The dinner table was a new concept to most and we encouraged them to try different food items. For most kids eating at our house ended up being special and they as adults never pass up an invitation. My wife is an excellent cook. There were the exceptions that would only eat pre packaged crap and fast food. Life is too short to be a picky eater.

    LB or GS? Need help

Granted I am only 4 weeks into it, but have had zero problems with GR. My doc told me only a few of his patients get GS after surgery. It seems much of the information passed around is subjective and changes from doc to doc.

    Alcohol

I look at it this way. Alcohol consumption slows the production of an enzime your body produces that is required to turn fat into carbos. This effect last for 3 days even after just one drink. This means you slow your weight loss down by 43 percent if you only drink one night a week. I enjoy drinking as much as anyone, but weight loss is more important to me. In my case, I have given up alcohol until I hit the maintanece phase. At that point I might phase it in, but not before.
  16. At one point I felt a kick butt blender/juicer would be a good investment to go along with getting a sleeve. Now going on week 4 post op I see very little use for one. High calories liquids are a big No No to be successful. Once I got past the liquid phase of post -op I found no need for a blender. Protein has been easy to get in daily by eating ground and deli sliced meat, eggs and some dairy. My protein shake days are over. Unless, you have problems with eating solids save you money and purchase some other kitchen toy. I have found a vegatable spiralizer a great tool along with an egg poaching pan. Huevos Rancheros using poached eggs and no tortia is now my favorite breakfast. Beats the hell out of a protein shake or smoothie.
  17. Not having had a band it hards to compare. However, I personally know 2 people whom have switched from a band to a sleeve. Both have said its night and day and highly prefer the sleeve. I personally chose the sleeve over the band after researching both. The sleeve had in my opinion less side effects and didnt require constant adjustments. The biggest negative for the sleeve is that it could not be reversed. Normally, I would not recommend a Mexican sleeve for many reasons incluing no follow on support. But in your case you have already made the mental adjustments to weight loss surgery, plus it is more affordable. Make sure to research your surgeon if you choose that direction. Good Luck.

    Scared and confused

I suggest getting your relationship in order before proceeding. You will need all the support you can get and if your afraid to tell your SO there is something wrong in your relationship.
  19. Yes and yes. At day 4 the surgical pain in my case subsided 50%. At week 3 the BM thing is still a mistery. I go for days without one. But at day 3 would would suggest to never trust a fart. You just dont know what might happen.
  20. This is new to me. The research I have done points to cherry juice which I could not find and pineapple. I was able to purchase fresh pineapple and cherries. Another product I am trying is prescription strength topical anti inflammatory cream. It was about $70 a tube. Both docs that I spoke with today have no idea how well the stuff works. Guess I will find out. I would not wish gout on my worst enemy. It hurts. Feels like a hot soldering iron got stabbed into the ball of my foot.

    Diet question

I dont know why but the cream soups did not set well for me, but other soups after blending were ok.

    New Stomach.

I was hungry after surgery. I have found that if I follow the rules on eating hunger retreats 99% of the time. I control it by time between meals. I eat 3 meals aday and have 2 snacks. Basically I eat every 3 hours. I hold to the rule of no drinking for at least 1 hour after eating. Seems to be working. Coffee helps me between meals.

    Scared to eat!

Dont be afraid to eat, just make sure you are eating healthy. Stay away from hig cal drinks and carbs and stop eating when your satified. You'll be fine.
  24. Try adding a wedge of laughing cow flavored cheese wedges to your eggs when you cook them. I also enjoy turkey lunch meat and greek yogurt with fruit.
  25. I was in about the same condition as you. At 3 weeks out I am still not normal in the BM department. I go for days without and when it does come its not solid.
