    easy healthy meals.

I learned about a new breakfast treat yesterday. Take a small container of greek yogurt with the fruit flavor of your choice. Add one packet of instant oatmeat meal stir then let sit over night. The oats absorb the liquid and it turns into a thick frosting consistancy. Was very suprised at how delicious it turned out. Fiber, protein and only 160 calories. Very filling.
  3. Exactly, why many of us dont tell others. Most people are ignorant when it comes to Bariatric surgery.

    WLS?

Getting sleeved is a big decision, not to be taken lightly. One has to do their best a few times and attemp to lose the weight the old fashion way before considering the surgery. Remember the surgery is only a tool. One still has to be diet conscience after surgery. I am 4 weeks post op and can say it's not as easy as some think. It is also my opinion that age is a big consideration. One needs to have experience life some to have the tools to deal with life after WLS. There are no do overs. My wife has been very supportive and dieted with me. She has lost a noticable amount of weight along side of me. Both of us enjoy cooking and have been having fun adapting our favorite meals to support our new dietary needs. I would say there is a good chance you will loose the weight while supporting your husband and not require surgery. Just cutting out the bad carbs and not drinking makes a huge difference.
  6. The very first thing they did once I woke up was make me sip water. Had no problems at all. BY day 3 I could gulp water. Sounds like everything went routine.
  7. At three weeks I started no feeling any pain. Like you I did not sit still and yes when you twist and bend you might feel a little pain. No big deal.
  8. I have been eating fruit since the sqishy part of the diet on day 14. No problems with any of it. Keep in mind to eat protein first and fruit is a carbo.
  9. All those foods worked well for me at that point. Try eating slower with smaller bites.

    Maintenance

The question you need to answer is how many calories for someone your weight and energy output is required to maintain your current weight. Your body great at determining what you need caloric wise. Set a range; some use 5 lbs some ten lbs from nominal. Track your food and weight. If you get to the high side of your set point you will know to reduce you food intake or on the low side you know you can increase the amount you eat. My NUT weighs daily some weekly.
  11. I think it depends on what you do for a living. As an engineer, a week was plenty. Lifting, twisting and bending over will get your attention for about 3 weeks. My energy level has never been that low. I did squeeze in a few naps in thew first couple of weeks, but could easly handle an 8 hour day. The biggest problem I have it is gout from rapid weight loss. I have had it for over a week and it makes going to work painful.

    Coffee

Coffe is a great appitite supressent. I drink lots, but have to drink a cup of water for every cup of coffee.
  13. It will just be a matter of time until the, “you shouldn’t say anything bad about surgery in Mexico” police come out and scold you. I have a theory; it seems the Mexican bariatric Docs advertise heavily on this site. I have seen several responses written to address other warning of surgery in Mexico that were not written by the average patient. Instead, I feel the letters were written by professional marketing people. One letter claimed that a bariatric Doc in the US chose Mexico because it was more successful than the practice he worked for. I don’t know about everyone else, but I call major BS on that write up. Another, letter puts forth the idea that a very well educated women that could afford to have the surgery anywhere chose Mexico because her own research pointed to it. Again I call BS. Sounds like marketing to me. I fully understand that Mexico or other 3rd world countries might be the only option for some to pursue due to financial considerations, but don’t forget you have no recourse if they damage you. My Doc has repaired several messed up Mexican surgeries. Plus I like to know the Water is palatable and the sewer system functions along with not getting mugged because of an out of control drug problem. Just last year, I was near an Arizona border town and told not to cross because of the violence. No thanks.

    Preop Diet...starving!

It wasnt that bad for me. Here is what I did. Three 20 grams of protien shakes spaced at 7am, 10:30am and then I would see how far I could go usually to about 3pm for the last shake. Drink them as slow as possible. I could make one last 30 to 40 minutes. Three shake for me = 480 cals. I got a total of 880 cals a day. Balance = 320 cals for dinner. Ate dinner around 5 to 5:30 pm. It consisted of 2 table spoons of low cal salad dressing, about a quart of salad 9more if needed) and about 4 to 5 oz of the meat of my choice. Ended up right about 900 cals. Close enough in my book. I lost 22 lbs in 7 days in which one day I was on the road and didnt follow the plan. Ate about 2500 cals on my one off day.
  15. Like you when the date crept up I got scared. Forced my self throught the proceedure and upon waking up after surgery I ended up being very happy. There really is not much pain. I didnt need pain relief. I could drink Water, no problem. All my fears were gone. The surgery in my case which the nurses told me is typical was much easier than having my shoulder rebuilt. This surgery was a piece of cake. Three weeks later I was off all my meds and down 40 lbs total including the one week pre-op diet. Today, half way through week 4 I just went into the 2's on the scale. Almost a third of my journey.

    question on food

Do I hear somebody asking for permission. Of coarse you can eat what ever you want, but is it a good idea? I look at it this way, until I hit my maintanance weight I am sticking to the program which does not include slider foods such as icecream in any form. Once I hit my goal, I might just indulge in a scoop of rocky road and NOT the sugar free kind.
  18. Weighing out or checking he vlume of what you eat can help determine quanity. At almost 4 weeks out, I can handle about 1/2 cup of food. It also depends how much of a slidder the food is. For example, yogurt I can eat a lot of, so I limit it to one serving a day.

    Bored with food choices

I enjoy poached eggs on a bead of refried beans with salsa. I can only eat 1 egg and a 1/4 cup of beans at a time. Another one I like but am getting tired of is deli sliced turkey covered in the mustard of your choice. You can also spice up cottage cheese with salsa. Pan seard scallops chew up nicley. String cheese is also allowed during the squishey phase. Your doc is strict. I am back on regular food at one month, this Wednesday. I have already tested a few items and had no problem. Cant wait for salads.

    Guilt

If you feel guilty for improving yourself, then go back indulge in icecream and lots of carbos. Maybe you'll feel better. Gosh.............................

    Has anyone had this problem?

I am going on week 4 post op and experienceing the same issues. Over the week end it felt like I was going into a full fledged anxiety attack. Turned out is was low blood sugar. A few sips of apple juice fixed it. No hunger also went along with the symtoms. Since this low blood pressure episode my hunger has decreased. I am currenty adding more fruit to my diet. This Thursday is my 1 month check up and I have scheduled some time with the NUT. Hopefully, she will be able to enlighted me and prevent dizzyness and low sugar levels..
  24. After 2 week post-op I no longer needed protien suppliments. Dont spend to much on them. Pnce you can eat eggs, any type of meats and dairy protien is easy to get in.
  25. Just worry about getting your water in at this point. Most of the rules dont apply until you are back at least on squishy food.
