jjanowitz got a reaction from ProudGrammy in Weighing Food
I've lost and kept off 140 pounds since April 8th, 2014. The only weigh (I didn't misspell this word lol) I could do this is/was by weighing my food. It's so very easy to go over 4 ounces because that's not much food to start with! I don't know how you had the same surgery I did and you aren't weighing your food.

jjanowitz got a reaction from Hoping052017 in 100 lb milestone
CONGRATS!!! I remember when I lost my first 100 pounds!!! 🙃 It's the best feeling in the world. That was 2 1/2 years ago. I've kept that plus more off. It's hard work but well worth it!!!
Now for your co-workers, yes it hurts. The only thing I can think of is jealousy. You said the right thing in the beginning, you have the best support system! Many don't have that. Their also a success in helping you lose the 100 pounds. GREAT GOING! 😊 🤣

If you remove 75 to 85% of your stomach you will never eat more than a cup of food for the rest of your life. That's a fact. You can eat most things. But you will feel awkward eating out and at family gatherings. You may also have food aversions. bread, Pasta and rice may cause issues
Your stomach won't stretch and its permanent. I can't imagine a surgeon will agree to only removin 40 to 50% .

Trust me you can eat everything you want in a while. I am struggling over three years out, because I keep gaining. My husband and I are a no carb family due to diabetes and love of carbs, we don't eat out, yet I am not that far from where I started. My surgeon has a life coach in his office, I also work with her.

They remove the Gherlin by removing most of the stomach, that is what the surgery is. And the Gherlin part only lasts for so long, your levels go back up eventually, not to what they were pre-op but they go up.
By not having the full procedure, you are basically handicapping yourself. It is like buying 3 tires for a car. It is pointless. A well formed sleeve, once you heal has more capacity, eventually for some people up to 2 cups. If you have even less removed than other people you are going to end up with almost a full sized stomach in the end. You will just stretch the stretchy part out with over eating. With a sleeve you don't have that stretchy part left at all, that is how the restriction works.

If your biggest concern is being able to eat large meals post-op, then surgery isn't a good option for you. You aren't in the right mental place for it. You should be more concerned about your health than if you can eat a lot on family holidays. Think about what really matters to you long term.

Hit a big milestone today...I'm 9 months post-op & lost 100 lbs! So happy for myself though Still working towards goal. Couldn't be happier with my results & my decision to take this step towards a happier-healthier life. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner! I have wonderful support system and for that I'm so grateful. It's funny tho certain people (mostly co-workers) have not commented or asked me 1 question since surgery 9 months ago (which I was open about from the get go). I'm not sure what to make of that but truthfully my family & my "true" friends opinions are what matter to me. I feel like an ugly/angry weight has been lifted from my shoulders which left me feeling lighthearted & happy!
