  1. Hi Everyone, I am still in the process of being banded. Still have to go thru the nutrition program and then they will submit for approval to my ins co. My question is are those of you who are over 50 or 60 satisfied with your weight loss on the band. I have been reading the posts all over this forum and I worry that I will go through this surgery only to be dissappointed in my weight loss. Regular dieting and exercise only seems to maintain my weight rather than losing more weight. I am really excited about doing this but I worry that it will be in vain. I am healthy so far and have no co-morbidities and hope to turn things around before I develop a life threatening illness. I am just curious as to how much weight those of you in my age group have lost since banding. Thanks so much Kathy
  2. wow! You have done great!! I only lost 3 pounds in my first 2 weeks. I was a bit disappointed but at least it was lost pounds and not gained. Are you able to eat more now? I haven't weighed myself since my 2 week followup appt. I am looking forward to my first fill. I find myself getting hungry between meals. I am trying to drink more water hoping it is just dehydration. Hope you don't have any more problems at home...........Kathy

  3. Hi,

I am feeling great. I am able to eat just about anything and feel a little restriction still but I can tell I will do better once I have a fill. Any news on your journey yet?..........Kathy

  4. Sufina, Good luck to you in your banding next month. I am glad you were able to find a doctor willing to give you fills locally. I know it is hard because many doctors aren't willing to take on a patient from a doctor in Mexico. Hope all goes well for you........Kathy
  5. Brandy, The bloodwork can still get to the DR in time. The lab usually faxes it to them. As for the brand I believe the brand is Allergan (Lapband) and the two sizes they use are the 4cc and the 10cc. The 4cc is the most common size they use. At least that is what I was told. Hope this answers your questions. Any questions I can answer for you I will, and I don't think Rosemary minds answering questions either. She is a very nice lady.
  6. Hi Sufina, I am sorry nobody answered your posts. We weren't ignoring you, at least I wasn't. I don't know Dr Fitzpatrick, is he in Eugene? I notice you are in Portland is he there? The only surgeons I know in Eugene are Drs. Umbach and Yarbrough at the Oregon Bariatric Center at Sacred Heart Medical Center....Kathy
  7. I had my bloodwork a week or so before the pre-op so he would have the results in hand by the time the pre-op happened.
  8. Hi Brandy, I only know what I experienced at my pre-op appt and what took place was preadmission in the hospital, and EKG and lots of informative paperwork was given to me. I also met with the surgeon again and was weighed to make sure I had lost the required amount of weight before surgery. Then I also met the Anestheisiologist. All in all I felt it prepared me for the actual day of surgery. I had many questions and they were all answered at that point. I hope this helps to give you an idea of what will take place........Kathy

Where are you....and what do you do?

Good Thread Harley, I am Kathy and I too live in OrYgon. I am retired from the telephone company in Los Angeles and am enjoying the good life with my hubby and our RV. Right now we are doing some remodeling of our house so we are pretty busy with that.
  10. I am sorry to hear about the problems you are having at home. I am doing pretty well. I have driven a couple of times to go to the store. I am not taking the pain meds. They knock me out and then I am wide awake in an hour. Anyway, I am sure your appetite will pick up. I have had a couple of times where I was cooking for my hubby and I took a bite of his food before I gave it to him. Yum! Nothing too bad, just some scrambled eggs and one time some refried beans. I should be able to eat those soon anyway. Hope you feel better soon....Kathy

Great victory Frances. I love that idea. I'll have to do that also when I reach a milestone........Kathy
  12. No the doctor never mentioned where the port would be. But if you have concerns I would definitely talk to him about it and maybe he will put it where you want. Or at least explain why they put it where they do.

  13. How are you doing? Hope you are feeling no gas pain. It is the pits!!Each day you will feel a little better. Can't wait til I can eat more than soups, cottage cheese, jello and other liquidy things..Kathy

Bratz, I too had those pains the other day and thought I would die each time I got one. When I went to bed they stopped and I haven't had them since. I just chalked it off to more gas. I have had gas in more places than I care to mention the last week.....Kathy
  15. Hi Brandy and Natasha, I had the same experience. After my insurance approved me they gave me a choice of dates and the pre-op was the week before. It will be here before you know it Brandy. I hope Natasha is doing well after her surgery yesterday.........Kathy

Eve I am so glad you have relief from the nausea, I had it in the hospital after one of the antibiotics they gave me and I know how awful that is. I am sorry you have to go thru the pain of the gas and the incisions again. Sounds like your doctor is a skilled surgeon alright. Fenton, you are too funny. I sure enjoy reading your posts....Kathy
  17. Hi Astera, I am doing well. They had me up 2 hours after I got out of recovery to walk the halls. I spent the night because I had pain in my neck and shoulders from the gas they use to inflate your stomach area. I am still experiencing a little pain there but for the most part I feel very well. Little or no discomfort at the incisions. Had a little soreness at the port which is just above the waistband. Let me know how it goes for you okay? Kathy

  18. Hi Natasha, How are you feeling? How did surgery go? I am feeling pretty well but a little tired by the end of the day. Still have a little gas pain in the shoulder area. Can't wait til it's gone. I hope you are doing well. Let me know okay? Kathy

  19. Good Luck Brandy, I also was to have Dr Umbach and actually had Dr Yarbrough perform my surgery last week. I was very pleased with him as well. He is very personable and I think you'll like him also. Good luck on your journey. I am doing well. Had quite a bit of gas pain in my neck and shoulders and it is tapering off now. Can't wait to get to Stage 3 of the diet. Kathy

Wow! Texgirl you are lucky, most of us can't get our first fill until 6 weeks. Let us know how it goes.....Kathy
  23. Hi Astera, How are you doing? Are you going to check into another bariatric center? I don't think it would hurt to go to the seminar anyway. It would give you some information you can use anywhere...Kathy

  24. Hi Natasha, I was just thinking about you and thought I would send you my good wishes. You have 3 days till your surgery. Good luck my band-sister....Kathy

Busy I too am having really bad shoulder and neck pain. I used the blender to make my shake yesterday and it had bubbles in it. I can't burp yet. I try and it goes somewhere other than out, so I ended up so bloated and miserable I couldn't sit or lay down. I had to stand. I finally took some Phayzyme caplets and within 20 minutes I had relief. I have to be very careful not to take in air when I eat or drink. Feeling better today but still have the pain only not intolerable. Hope everyone is doing better today....Kathy
