Charlotte - thanks for coming back to let us know how you've been doing. I've got 9 days until I'm being banded and from everything I've read I realise this is something that has to be taken one day at a time. Well done on your success so far

When are you being banded?
Hello fellow UKers! Just wondered if there is anyone that is been banded in the near future from the UK or are you thinking about it? I know Sirusman is being done this week and I'm scheduled for the 8th October, just wondered if anyone else is out there and getting nervous. If you are and you're only lurking - get an account and come on this thread, let us know you're out there. FT

Hunger Or Habit??
Hi Lainee - I've not been banded yet - has things improved for you at all? I know from reading the forum that others have suggested that you take up a hobby to take your mind off things - like reading or sewing. I know for me if I get off my butt and do something I forget that I was (head) hungry - if I dont' break myself out of those thoughts I end up eating the cheesecake that I had been dreaming about for the last 2 hours!! I think half the battle is recognising that you are having those thoughts and hopefully it will get easier to resist as time goes on. Good Luck!!

Keeping it a secret?
I'm not telling anyone. I told two of my closest friends that I was thinking about Lapband surgery about 2 months ago and the look on their face told me that they were shocked but they both said they would support me if that is what I wanted to do. I haven't mentioned it again but I realised for me this was such a personal decision and I wanted to make the choice on my own. I didn't want the complications of explaining myself as I had so much to think about. I'm also splitting up with my husband (a 17 year relationship) and I'm already under the spotlight because of this (only close family and friends know so far). I may tell people once I have the operation but I have arranged things so I don't have to tell anyone anything if I don't want to. I actually like the idea of keeping this to myself - why do I have to share all of me with everyone? I couldn't stand people watching me eat and questioning how much weight have a lost constantly - if I do lose weight rapidly I will explain it away with the end of my marriage/new image story - that will distract people I hope to be banded on 8th October in Belgium and I can't wait although the nerves a beginning to kick in!! Can I just say that everyone on this site is amazing and everyone is incredibly supportive. Thank goodness for the internet!!

The Worst Thing About Bein Fat
Hmm loving this thread. Worst things for me in no particular order: worry about who is watching me from behind when I walk. Looking in mirror and realising that no matter how much I suck in the tummy I'm still 8stones overweight :woot: When nothing fits. Dreading putting on that pair of trousers and if it doesn't fit it means you have put on more weight again! Walking at what you think is a fast pace until you watch everyone pass you. Wanting do things like scuba dive, fairground rides but know your over the weight limit. Seeing people faces say 'how the hell did you get that big' but they say nothing to your face. :waytogo: Wearing trousers only because otherwise you can't walk far (rubbing thighs) Being body conscious all the time - is my belly on show, I'm I showing too much breast, do my arms look too fat, are they staring at my double chins.:tired I could go on and on... However all to end soon when I go for this life changing procedure!!

Seven days
I'm going for Dr Focquet - I'm seeing him next Friday - I had a consult at the Healthier Weight Centre (London based surgery) too and I liked the surgeon there but the cost was £8,000 which is hard to justify really and surgeon had only done 1,500 procedures. I have heard nothing but good things about having the procedure in Belgium, of course some people have had complications but they haven't been related to being in Belgium and that could happen where ever you are. I like the fact that Dr Focquet had done over 3,000 procedures and have not found at anything negative about him. I do nothing but research this in my spare time and I have found this forum to be like an oasis in an desert. Who would have thought that so many people would have the same story to tell.

Good Luck!!! I'm waiting for confirmation but I should be getting banded on 8th October in Belgium too!! Arrggghhhh that's the first time I've actually written it!! I understand how you feel. I can't wait but then I fear failure to make this work for me. Only 5 days left for you - please keep us updated.

Surgery Providers in the UK and Europe
I'm still looking for someone to band me. I can't comment on if they are good: Obesity Surgery and Weight Loss Programmes (programs) - Healthier Weight Centres, Weight Loss Clinic UK. but I went for a consultation with them in London (they have branches in Birmingham, London and Manchester) and they were very nice answered all my questions and if I had unlimited funds I probably would go with them. Their Lapband costs around £8K but you get unlimited fills for a year. I was seriously thinking about going with them but it is very expensive. I'm now seriously thinking about going to Belgium. I've been checking the website that Mine put above and I'm going to book a consult with them. I'm sure I want to get banded but the more certain I get the more anxious I'm getting that I pick the right surgeon! For all of you that are already banded and losing weight you are such an inspiration!

Hi I'm from the UK - How many people did you tell?
Thanks Wendell - as each day goes I'm sure that this is what I want to do - I don't need the complication of other peoples issues - so I'm going to go for it! Can I just say thanks to other bandsters for posting on this wonderful forum - it is such a help to know there are others that understand this mad, bad relationship with food you can have.

Hi I'm from the UK - How many people did you tell?
Hello, I'm new to the site and it has been a great help in deciding whether lap band is for me. I have done the 'every diet under the sun' and managed to lose 5 stones under Lighterlife only to put it all back on plus 3 stone. I've come to point that I think that the band will help me to control my weight with healthy eating and exercise - I have no doubt that I have the will power to do it with the band but not enough will power to do it without the band. I was wondering - when deciding, how many people close to you did you consult? I have mentioned it to 1 best friend and they were shocked and another best friend and they are worried and think I should try another diet first :cry but said they would support me. My family is in another country and I'm splitting up from my husband. I relucant to spend my time convincing others that this is right for me but not sure if this is something I should try and do on my own. Has anyone tried to do this without immediate support? How have you coped? I'm a very independant person so I think I'll be ok on my own but was curious to what others thought.
