joleneB got a reaction from Cat B in Wearing cpap after surgery?
Please keep wearing your CPAP! If you feel like the pressure is too high tell your dr and have them lower it. I am a RN and worked in a sleep clinic for years ....... Weight loss can definitely improve your apnea but it doesn't necessarily mean it will completely go away. Some people think that only overweight or old people have sleep apnea, that is so not true. We had many people in our clinic weighing 100 pounds soaking wet who have severe sleep apnea so it's not just weight related. However there were also patients who were very overweight and when they lost the weight the sleep apnea went away. You won't know if your apnea is gone unless you have another sleep study, I have a CPAP and I hate it but won't stop wearing it until I know my apnea is gone.

I always thought of dumping as a good thing, and it's one of the reasons I chose gastric bypass over the others . My self control with sweets and high fat foods were out of control & I needed something to keep me on the right track, and it does!! I have dumped twice, once right after surgery from drinking my Protein Shake too fast, and the other on mashed potatoes which surprised me. I don't get horrible stomach pains just severe nausea, dizziness, heart palpitations and sleepiness, that's enough to keep me on track! But I'm glad it happens!

I decided at the very beginning of this surgery that I will only weigh myself 2x a month. The scale has played such a negative roll for me in the past. Numbers aren't everything but it's what we all really want to see for proof that we are losing! I figure even if I only lose a pound or 2 in the 2 weeks at least it's a loss and I can go on my happy way for 2 more weeks lol. My surgery was May 8 and as of last Monday my total loss is only 35 pounds ( that's including 13 pounds lost pre op). I've decided I'm just going to be a slow loser. Although i wish the scale said I weigh less, I can see the pounds melting off and my clothes are finally getting too big, so I'm concentrating more on that now. I started in a size 18-20 and I wore a pair if size 16 pants to work yesterday ( no elastic or anything lol), my shirts are starting to look too big and baggy, so those are the things I'm concentrating on instead of numbers.

I am so pleased and excited about this journey I am on. I get tickled every time I eat because for the first time I can remember I leave lots of food on my tiny little plate and after a few bites I am completely satisfied!!! I went to a cookout at my sisters home today and everyone who knows me was amazed. Normally I'd be sitting at the table without moving unless I needed to use the facilities. Today I had so much energy I danced, raced with the kids and won, and when I left I did not take a doggy bag for later. Is this really me? Yes, it is the new and improved me. The me that loves life and have taken control of the lifelong bad habits and turned them into healthier ones. My hubby looked at me with a big od smile on his face as everyone congratulated me on my weight loss. When I weighed myself this morning I have lost another 5.2 lbs. I wish I had this done as soon as my bmi got over 40, ten years ago, but now I am just glad to be feeling good and having so much energy. I Love My new Life!!! I'll post some pictures tomorrow so everyone can see my progress thus far.

I am nearly 11 months out. I only ate about 300 - 400 calories a day in the beginning and I worked out everyday. I have lost weight every week and am currently down over 190 pounds. I never went into starvation mode, have never had a stall. Follow your clinics plan and get your exercise. It really does work!

My surgery was May 8th. I had my 1 week post op appt yesterday, I am down 8 pounds, that's a pound a day. I lost 13 lbs on the pre op so 21 pounds in 3 weeks. I've been advanced to soft/smooth foods. So now I can have tuna, canned chicken, Beans etc. I feel so good, besides not eating much I barely even feel like I had surgery !! No pain, never had nausea really. I'm walking 2 miles a day now. My energy is better, feeling really positive!

I agree, I've decided that I will only weigh myself every 2 weeks, the scale will play head games with you! I weighed this week (1 week out) because I had a 1 week follow up appointment. Next weigh in is 2 weeks from now.

Hello, well I had the gastric bypass last Thursday May 8th so I'm 5 days post op. I believe I dumped today!!! Yesterday I was able to get all my fluids in and all my Protein so I was pretty excited. So today I was following my plan to increase my protein from 4 oz at a time to 8 oz at a time. Well 8 ounces went down fine no problems but I must have drank it too fast . About 10 minutes after I drank my shake I got very light headed/dizzy, sweaty, heart racing, and double vision . At the time I didn't relate it to dumping I guess because I was thinking that only happened with fatty and high sugar foods. But it passed after about 20 mins, afterwards I felt really weak for a couple hrs but I feel fine now. I hated the experience but I'm glad I'm learning this before I go back to work. This is definitely life changing. I can have creamy Soups, sf pudding, yogurt but honestly nothing tastes good to me so I've just been doing the shakes and Water. I tried Tomato Soup and a yogurt but they don't taste the same anymore. Anyway just please take it slow and listen to your body!

I'm going back to work in 3 weeks, some have gone back sooner. As far as driving I was told to wait about a week and as long as you're not taking any narcotics. I'm worried about the Hair loss too, it think everyone has experienced it done but some more than others.

My Dr. Scheduled me for May 8, but I haven't heard yet if my insurance approved it. I'm doing the " fast track" and have Coventry, hopefully all will go as planned. I'm nervous and excited!! Have my first support group meeting tomorrow, then next Monday I have an all day appt that includes the nutritionist, psychiatrist, a fit/ exercise person and someone else. I'm ready to lose 100 pounds, say goodbye to my CPAP machine and hopefully my hbp meds too !

Well starting day 4 of liquid diet and I feel sooo much better, I can do this. My energy level has been really low I hope it picks up. I finish my pre op tomorrow with EKG, CXR and blood work then surgery!!! I have 3 women that I work with that had the bypass all within the last year, they all look so beautiful and healthy. I've been looking at all the youtube video transformations, gotta say I'm a little worried about the Hair loss though! Some seem to have it worse than others. Anyway, off to buy some gas ex and order my Vitamins, I'm getting the "Celebrate" vitamins. We were given a few different choices and these seemed to taste the best and have to take less of these than the others. People have made negative comments like " you have to take these vitamins every day for the rest if your life!" Like that's such a big deal...... I take blood pressure meds every single day, and wear a CPAP every single night, I'd rather give those up and take my vitamins every single day!!! Have a great day everyone!!

Started my liquid diet today, so far ok but I do feel a little light headed. All I did was pee today lol and I was so busy at work so it kept me occupied. I also got the chicken Soup ( chicken broth) from a Japanese restaurant, that helps since everything else is so sweet. Surgery is May 8th, I have an appt with the surgeon again tomorrow, then pre op Monday. Also heard today that my insurance accepted everything..... Getting nervous now!! I'm an RN, hopefully I'll be a good patient lol!
