    more restriction?

Hi, I think you should contact your Nut about this. I have days like that, but I'm only 8 weeks out. Good luck with it though.
  2. Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone would be able to shed some light on my plight. I was sleeved on 16th June 2014, and everything went really well. No post op pain, no complications, following diet restrictions etc. Then last week I started getting flank pain over the lower right side ribs directly over the stomach area. It usually feels mild in the morning, then intensifies in the afternoon. I have a lot of nausea after eating anything at all, and with some foods I get the chills, sweats, rapid heart rate and dizziness. But I wake up feeling hungry! I thought it might be my gallbladder at first, but after doing some research, I found out that the pain should be on the right side for gallbladder not the left like mine. I have been under a lot of stress over the last few weeks, and am wondering if this could be the cause. If it is, the pain is not helping my stress levels! Lol. I will contact my surgeon but not until I've had my medical on Friday for my visa application. (the reason for all my current stress)! I guess what I'm asking is, has anyone else experienced this, and is it normal?

Pain and nausea 8 weeks post op?

Thanks VSGAnn2014, I guess I'm conscious of sounding silly to my surgeon if this is just part of the normal journey for most. I will give him a call tomorrow, I just wont have the time to go in to see him until after Friday because his surgery is about an hour away, and my visa medical is about two hours in the opposite direction. So I guess I've been a bit silly waiting so long in the first place. I thought it would pass, but I'm not so sure now. I'll take your advice though and contact him asap.

    Post Op June 2014 Sleevers

Hi June 16th for me, just wanted to join the conversation. My surgery has gone really well, I feel almost normal. But my scale hasn't budged for the last week. I guess I need to change things up. I went onto pureed foods yesterday, and WOW! How full did I feel after having about 2 teaspoons of butternut squash! I had to really slow it down to get in half a cup.
  5. It's totally normal. I was lucky not to have much gas and bloating, but it is common. Everyone is different, it could be a day, it could be a few weeks. just follow your surgeon's instructions and you'll be fine. PS I hear walking helps. I walked around the hallway every hour or so when they said I could get up (same day) And I think that's why I didn't struggle so badly. But having said that, it does depend on how much gas your surgeon pumped into you and how your body deals with it.

    Vitamins

I use Nutrichew. It's more like a dissolving tab than a chew and it only comes in tangy orange. And I take 1 twice a day.

    Eating all the wrong things

Don't kick yourself please, It'll only leave you with bruises! What's done is done. This is all a part of learning, so pick yourself up. Forgive yourself for being human and start again. You can do this! You faced surgery, that takes a lot of guts!!! This is only a little bump in your road. When we learned to walk we had to crawl first then it took some stumbles and some falls to finally learn to walk. This is no different. You've had your first stumble, it doesn't mean you'll never walk or run. So back on the shakes and off you go again.
  8. I'm not sure what a giant hernia repair is as there are many types/forms of hernias ... I had a hiatal hernia repair which was corrected during the sleeve procedure. I'm not sure if the severity made a difference. I didn't even know about it until I was post. He basically told my he had to yank my stomach back down below my diaphragm and sewed the diaphragm up tight around my esophagus. Swallowing would be a little difficult for a week or so, but I'll be fine. I was. sorry, clearly I dont know how to choose the right quote. the previous post was meant to be a reply to this.
  9. Yip its like a hiatal hernia repair, just that it's really large and also tearing onto other organs so they said it's a "giant sliding hernia" They'll do exactly the same to me as they did with you just a bit more repairing to do. My surgeon said I shouldn't worry so much about the sleeve, it's the hernial repair that I should be more worried about. It's apparently rather painful? But your experience makes me feel a whole lot better about it.
  10. Wow! My surgeon said 3 to 4 nights in hospital! But I am having a giant hernial repair as well, maybe that's the difference?
  11. I think the pure number of responses to this post says it all!!! Don't think you have till you're 60+ to die from obesity related illnesses. My mother passed at 54yrs old my grandfather and uncle both at 60 and my brother on his 31st birthday! All from heart. We cant afford to wait for other people to get their heads around this LIFE SAVING surgery. She might understand it all later on, but till then you really don't need her negativity and almost bullying attitude around you.

June 9th Sleeve - Looking for friends!

June 16th for me. I'm right in the midst of the dreaded food funeral state of mind. And I cant even think about the surgery without feeling stressed out. I've taken 4 weeks off after surgery but if I'm up to it I'll go back earlier, I'm just worried about all the physical work like massage and waxing etc but facials etc should be fine. I'm so busy at work up until the day before surgery, that the time off will be welcomed
  13. Hi there. Sound's like you're doing everything right to achieve your goals. Congratulations on your amazing success so far! I have not been sleeved yet (June 16th for me ), You are exactly the kind of inspiration I needed today. The closer the date get's the more I question my decision, then just as I get cold feet, some wonderful person like you shares their journey and I remember why I want this for myself too. So thank you!
  14. Hi all, So I'm trying to get ready for my surgery next month and according to most post surgery patients, Gas-X strips are a must have, however, I cant seem to find any here in Australia. I can get the gel caps or the tabs, but not the strips! I tried to get some shipped in but they want to charge me over $79 for 18 strips plus postage!!!!! Does anyone know where I can find them in Australia, or any other suggestions or an alternative product to use? And if not, can I use the gel caps or tabs after surgery?

    BEST THING I EVER DONE

That's awesome George! Thank you for sharing your story. You've done so well!!!

    Gas-X strips in Australia?

Thank you all for your help, I'll just walk , walk and walk some more . I will get a few of the tabs to crush up if I need them, but it's a relief to know they aren't as important as I thought they were.

Only 6 hours to go.... eek

Wow!!! so excited for you!! Will keep you in my prayers for your surgery, I'm sure you'll do just fine. Let us know how you get on.
  18. Hi, So here's the thing. I finally got my surgery date last week, and I have all the normal doubts/excitement extreme thoughts that go along with this decision. But since getting the date I've managed to put my back out in two places,( T8 and lumbar) get a severe case of Gastro, and now I have an impacted wisdom tooth pushed through and causing infection and pain (I'm 39years old)!!! I mean wisdom tooth! REALLY!!! Is it just me, or does everyone fall apart before surgery??? Not sure if I should laugh or cry at this point..
  19. Tigermouse74

Falling apart before I even start!

Thanks sugarBomb, you're right, just bad luck. It's easy to get worked up when your emotions are all over the shop to start with.

    straws

You take more air in if you drink through a straw, and this can stretch your sleeve. Talk to your Dr or NUT and only use if they say it's OK.

    Best Scar treatment?

Hi, I haven't had my surgery yet, but I am a paramedical Aestheticion which means I work with scar management everyday.Firstly, for the first year after surgery, your surgeon "own's" the scar, and nobody can touch it without his permission. If anyone offer's to, WALK AWAY!!! The first step is to start using retinols (Vit A) on the scars, later you can have microdermabration, and LED light therapy and finally skin needling to break up the scar tissue and make it smoother. The color will get better over time and you will never completely get rid of the scar, but it will definitely look the best it possibly can. The best scar cream I've come across is Beaute Pacifique scars and stripe's, but I'm sure there are lot's of great ones out there. I hope this help you a bit.

    Aussie sleevers where are you?

    CPAP

Hi, I'm not sure where it all applies, I'm in Australia, and my Dr gave me some paper work stating that I was required by law to notify the Department of Planning and infrastructure. and that if I had an accident and had not informed them, my insurance would not cover me. It wont effect my license as long as I'm being treated ie CPAP, but if I stop treatment, even for one night, it's considered untreated and I could lose my licence. Also my Dr is required by law to notify the registrar of motor vehicles.

What's the skinny on the skin?

Loose skin is normally a part of weight loss surgery, but having said that there are some things you can do to help with the quality of your skin so it shrinks back better than if you just left it. Firstly take your EFA's (Essential fatty acids ie. Omega 3, 6 & 9) but be sure to stop at least 2 weeks before your surgery as it thins the blood and is not ideal for surgery. Use a great body moisturizer or Vitamin skin function oil, eat healthy vitamin rich foods (not high calorie food) you can go for LED light therapy treatments like the body bed etc for cell renewal and strength or even skin needling to help with collagen and elastin production. though this wont make your skin tight!! Also weight bearing exercise will make a huge difference as biggirlpanties said. after you reach your goal weight, you should wait about a year before going for any skin surgery, this is because the skin is an organ and can take up to a year (from goal weight) to shrink back as far as it can. then it's time to consider surgery.

    CPAP

I'm really interested to hear what others say about this. I would suggest seeing your sleep specialist again and maybe doing another sleep study. I'm also on CPAP at the moment and was wondering how to come off it after surgery and some weight loss. I worry about the whole divers licence thing as well. It's really important to me to keep my licence and I don't want to have problems after coming off the CPAP.
