I remember those days in the beginning. I was convinced that he really didnt take any stomach out! Its hard to feel full on just liquids. I promise you'll feel your resistance once you are on solids. Just keep following the instructions!

I'm new to these forums, but I've done quite a bit of reading regarding post-op diets. My understanding from my NUT, and my surgeon is that the post-op diet is not intended to be "low carb." That is very clearly stated in my educational paperwork. However, so many threads seem to just freak out over eating ANY carbs...even claiming to gain x amount of pounds from eating a cracker, or stalling for weeks because they drank a glass of wine. Quite frankly, it starts to read like a pro-ana website sometimes! I thought this surgery was not only a tool to help us loss weight, but also to help us develop a healthy relationship with food. By all means, eat HEALTHY, eat CLEAN, eat WHOLE FOODS. These include complex carbs found in veggies, fruit, and whole grains. Now, I admit I'm only 2 weeks out of surgery, so maybe my views will change, but I do not believe that we should punish ourselves. Learn moderation, not abstinence!

oh boy I so feel your pain! Im 3 weeks out now and life is getting much better. 3 Weeks seems to be the magic time... you start to get your life back! That first week was so traumatizing for me. I cried and cried. Thought I ruined my life! But as soon as I was able to eat "real" things like refried Beans, oatmeal, etc, life got better. Last night I ate some sashimi from our favorite sushi place... sashimi is super soft and went down beautifully! I felt like I was on cloud nine! I ate 3 pieces and was stuffed! I still cant believe it.
Also, that first week I never felt full or any restriction from my sleeve either. I was convinced that it wasnt working. But everyone assured me that I would feel it once real food came into play and sure enough, thats the truth. Yogurt is too much like a liquid and it just slides on thru... wait til you have some tuna or something like that, 1/4 cup and you're stuffed! its crazy!!

@@Karen Scott - Karen - my doctor and his assistant both told me the day after my surgery to NOT expect weight loss the first month... they suggested that I stay off the scale for at least the first 3 weeks. They explained that the surgery backs up the Water in your system and you will retain water from the swelling. And your job for the first 3 weeks is to get in what ever kind of liquid and Protein that you can get in... that you should try to limit the carbs and sugars - but dehydration should be my only concern for the first 3-4 weeks. They told me that once I progress to chewing chewing chewing my solids - then I will start to see the weight loss come off... they said that most sleeve patients will see the majority of their weight come off between the 2nd and the 6th months.... and that depends on the amount of exercise you do verses the proper foods that you eat. So I wish your doctor had shared that with you... I have gone against his wishes and weighed myself out of curiosity - but I know in the back of my mind that the stagnant scale is only temporary. I have a friend that had this surgery in May of 2013... and she started near my same starting weight - she said she didnt lose much at all until about her 3rd month... when she could start working out in a gym... but to date she says she has lost nearly 160 lbs!!! And my doctor said its MUCH better to lose slower - he suggested 2-3lbs a week ONLY so that your skin can try to keep up. So please dont get discouraged - you gave your body the jump start it needed... now wait and let your body figure out how to live the rest of its life on what you have done.

Loristi reacted to erp in Drinking Alcohol... It's not worth it!
Just to keep it in perspective, alcohol dehydrates you. After drinking your body retains Water. There is no way you drank 17,500 calories to gain 5 pounds in one or two days. The change on the scale is very temporary as long as you eat on plan and drink your Water.< /p>

Loristi got a reaction from Kandis SupaStar Hill in I feel like I can eat too much for 2 weeks Post Op
Im almost 2 weeks out and I can only eat a few little bites of pureed meats and only a half of a scrambled egg... but yogurt? I can eat a full 4 oz no prob. (I eat slowly still, making it last about 25 min). same with thinned mashed potatoes. Is this normal? Can I eat that much of those things because they are thinner? I stop when I feel satisfied/done but thats at 4 oz or so.
im worried that Im over eating! But I honeslty dont feel full or satisfied as quick as I do with eggs.

    Today is Day Seven post-op.
Doing great. Came home from hospital Day Two.
Day Three was my big WTF?! day. Got it all over with then.
Day Four felt great. Exercised a little on my elliptical.
Day Five did 3 loads of laundry, light housekeeping,
Day Six felt good too. Sloughed off ... napped a lot.
Day Seven (today) ... more laundry, walked with the dog for 15 minutes outside, and had a long afternoon nap.
Water drinking is great, Protein was up to 74 grams today (started at 29 grams on Day Two).
Am happy I took 2 weeks off. Getting stronger all the time.
Feet don't hurt, knees don't hurt, walking faster, smiling more, kissing hubby all the time. He's kissing me back.
    Kiss yourselves.

Loristi got a reaction from Summer Rain in The ol' straw debate. Do you use one?
So im a few days post op and am having a hard time getting all my fluids in. Before the sleeve, I basically ONLY drank from a straw. I have a million reusable cups with straws in my house and always used to drink tons of liquids. Now, im struggling to get 24 oz of Water in!
So, Im wondering if I should try using a straw and see if it helps. But Im afraid its going to give me gas and therefor hurt! I dont want anymore pain! lol
So, if you use a straw, when did you cave and try it? Should I just go for it or be a good patient and not use it?

So sorry you feel crummy. Hang in there and remember that this is temporary. Just like the flu, something you have to get through but will feel better.
There does seem to be some magic around posting on here how bad you feel. Seems like every time I read a post like this, shortly after the person re-posts and says that they suddenly feel a lot better. A superstitious person would find a correlation between those completely unrelated things. Just sayin, you should probably listen to @@Comeflywithme, she's providing a lot saner advice than me. But I hope I at least made you smile. :-)

OK --- it gets better....much sooner than you think. First of all, the "bad pain in your chest" is GAS. You HAVE HAVE HAVE to walk it off --- it's the only thing that really helps. Try Gas X strips -- but honestly, they did nothing for me, the walking helped TREMENDOUSLY!!! Walk every two hours --at least! Walk during the night also. take small sips of Water constantly and think Protein first. By day 7 -- IF you follow my lead and walk walk walk, I guarantee you'll feel super great!!
WALK WALK WALK WALK WALK WALK WALK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck, let us know how you're doing.

So I had my surgery yesterday surprisingly I wasn't nervous or scared and It was over before I knew it, it only took my Dr. an hour to do my sleeve which I thought would take longer. Today they started me on step one diet tomorrow advancing me to step 2 but other than the severe gas im doing ok. Hope everyone else surgery went well and have a quick and safe recovery

got the call this morning that my check in time is 6:45 tomorrow AM. I cant believe its finally here. Im a nervous wreck and thrilled at the same time. Im already struggling with not being able to binge eat anymore... isnt that weird? Its like a death of a friend. I only had to be on liquids for a couple days and already Im having inner tantrums about it. I just pray that this passes and that I can be successful. Im so scared of failing.

Well I got my surgery date and its Aug. 22nd! That gives me just one day shy of 2 weeks before starting back to work. I have to make this happen, im a teacher, too and just can't take the first week of school off. Thankfully, the first day is a thursday (minimum day schedule) then Friday is our early out day, so even if im really tired or whatever, I only have to make it thru 2 half days, basically, then get 2 days off before going back to full days on Monday. Im so excited!!

Yep, I'm right there with you I think it's because we've failed at everything else (weight wise) and we don't know what success is - at least I dont. But, I do know that I cant do it by myself, that I have tried a million times. So, the Sleeve is what I'm gonna do. What I'm hoping for is that eventually I will be able to have a bite or 2 of my favorite things, but the restriction from surgery will keep me from binging - which is really what caused me to get where I am now. My surgery is on Friday and Im sooo looking forward to this new chapter!
