    New to the group.

Welcome! What surgery did you have and how are you doing? I'm having bypass on 8/11 and would love to hear some helpful hints

    My story

Welcome! Don't sweat the sleep study, it's no biggie. They put little sticky pads in multiple spots (scalp, chest, legs) then hook everything up to a machine...and then expect you to fall asleep! You lie there thinking "there's no waaay I'm gonna sleep" but you do. Then after a few hours they wake you to attach a mask to see what settings allow you to sleep better. I had no complaints about my experience, except that they woke me up an hour after they said they would. I had to take my kids to school and ran out of there with the sticky pad glue still on me

    Missing....

I'm still pre-op but I'll tell you what pre-op classes taught me. We were told no carbonation EVER because it can expand your pouch/sleeve/whatever and cause damage. Check with your nut to see if maybe you could drink flat pop. Ewww flat pop just sounds nasty.....lol.
  4. Congrats! Keep us posted as to how you're doing. We pre-op patients will be rooting for you

    Miserable - Relationship Sucks

After I read your post I thought a bit about what you said. Yes, there is a lot more going on here than I can really share in good conscience because they are too private and sharing them would be a betrayal to him, even in a forum that is relatively anonymous. There's no drug use, cheating, he doesn't drink or beat me or anything like that. I just had the revelation that having this surgery is opening up a whole can of worms for me. It's bringing to the surface things I have suppressed over the past 20 years, things I didn't want to deal with or think about that I pushed to the subconscious level. And I think that is what is happening to him too. And it's not very pretty. Totally understandable! And I feel your pain as I'm also married to a passive-aggressive guy I hope everything works out for both of you.

    Miserable - Relationship Sucks

My favorite professor told our sociology class: "Let me save you $10,000 in therapy. The only person you can change is you." Sounds like there is more to this than the smoking issue.

  15. Read the wording very carefully. Mine said "weight loss surgery excluded EXCEPT for cases of medical necessity" or something similar to that. Contact the utilization department of your insurance and obtain a printed copy of their exact wording. Hope that helps.

  25. It's a sort of meat substitute made from wheat gluten. You can make it at home with vital wheat gluten (which you can buy at some supermarkets in the organic section or at other sorts of smaller organic markets), or you can buy it prepackaged. I'd say homemade is better. It's a great low carb, high Protein option for anyone who doesn't suffer from celiac. Thanks - I'm learning a lot every day
