hi there!!! are there really gay people here?!?!?!?
defibvt replied to anninva's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello fellow travelers and LGBT Community. I've been on this site for awhile and just found this forum. Yes, I am gay, living in Texas... of all places. Not a native, moved here with my now husbear, from Wisconsin. I am a self payer, as being an ICU nurse, working in a hospital, my insurance sucks, and does not cover Bariatric Surgery. I will be traveling to Tijuana, Mexico on March 1. I have done my research, picked the right doctor and weighted the pro's and con's. I will be sleeved and looking forward to a healthier and more active me. My husbear has been supportive, although I will be going alone (long story), he might join me down there for my recovery. -
@@Duxx1 How did the surgery go? I have my sleeve scheduled for 4 weeks after yours, March 2. Looking forward to hearing about your progress.

February/March 2015 Self Payers in Mexico
defibvt replied to defibvt's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My sister had her surgery done here in Texas last July and has already passed her goal weight. My insurance does not cover bariatric surgery, yes I work for a hospital and my insurance is sub par. I've been researching my options and self pay here in the States is just too expensive. I hope to hear more on your progress with setting up your surgery. For me, it almost feels surreal. I saw the loop that my sister had to jump through and it seems just so much nicer. In planning for the late winter months, I am hoping to avoid the spring break crowd and allow me time to spend my spring and summer as much as possible outside to gain the momentum of recovering and weight loss. -

That you for the well informed post. I have sent my information in to A Lighter Me as well. I have been in touch with Katy Floyd. I will give her a call to answer my questions I am hoping to have my VSG in March. I have heard great things about Dr Elias Ortiz. Your post has given me the reassurance I needed and the confidence to go ahead with this. Thank you once again Shizwiz for the detailed information. -
Did you fly to and from San Diego? If so, how soon after did you fly home?

This is my first post to this group. My sister has had a successful gastric sleeve done in July 2014 and has lost over 70 pounds. Back in November, when I had to re-sign up for insurance, the UHC representative assured me that I would have coverage. I scheduled an appointment with my sister's doctor and the day before they called and stated I indeed did not have bariatric coverage. They did offer me the self pay option and at present, I do not have the ability to make 'another' car payment. She mentioned to me that this group has been helpful to her and that others have gone down to Mexico to have surgery. If I have to pay my max out of pocket for the surgery, I might as well see what my options are. So basically, what I am asking is: 1 Is Mexico an option I sure pursue? 2 Is it worth fighting your insurance for coverage? 3 Has anyone had any experience with going to Mexico for treatment? (I have done some basic google searches and there appears to be many, and their patient reviews are interesting???) Thanks in advance.
