I am only a month out and recently flew to Seattle. Before surgery I should have used a seat belt extender but I was too stubborn to so I pulled and pushed the seat belt and sucked in what I could to finally get the thing buckled. This past flight was so much better, I didn't have to struggle at all to get it to buckle and the belt didn't feel like it was cutting into my skin. It was great!

I was just wondering if there were any single men in their 20's to mid 30's who were looking to connect with someone. I would love to meet someone who has been through this journey as well.

Try taking your records to another physician, a lady in my support group had to change hospitals/surgeons last minute and her insurance as well as our doc honored all the work she had done with the previous physician and she was able to have surgery within a few weeks of changing docs. Worth a try

I am scheduled for August 19th in Texas! I am SO glad I found this site!! I am finding it very comforting to see other people going through this journey to! A lot of people don't understand why you are having the surgery when you tell them about it, especially kids around my age (22). So I'm glad there are people that understand exactly why I am doing this I can talk to now!

Metabolic syndrome: yet another co-morbidity gastric bypass helps cure. Madan AK1, Orth W, Ternovits CA, Tichansky DS. Author information Abstract BACKGROUND:The metabolic syndrome is a group of risk factors predictive of cardiovascular diseases. The rising number of obese Americans has increased the prevalence of metabolic syndrome. This study investigated the hypothesis that the incidence of metabolic syndrome is decreased after laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery.
METHODS:The charts of all patients who had undergone laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery during a 6-month period were reviewed for the presence of the diagnostic criteria for metabolic syndrome, both preoperatively and at least 1 year postoperatively. The National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III (NCEP ATPIII) criteria were used to define the metabolic syndrome. These criteria included elevated blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and waist circumference.
RESULTS:Data were available for 53 patients. Before laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery, 32 (60%) of the 53 patients had metabolic syndrome, as defined by the NCEP ATPIII criteria. No difference was found in the preoperative body mass index between patients who had metabolic syndrome (47.4 kg/m(2)) and those who did not (49.8 kg/m(2); P = NS). The percentage of excess body weight lost after at least 1 year was 78% in patients with metabolic syndrome. After surgery, only 1 (2%) of the 53 patients had metabolic syndrome (P <.0001).
CONCLUSION:Metabolic syndrome is quite common in patients undergoing bariatric surgery. The results of our study have shown that laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery resolves metabolic syndrome in most patients. Metabolic syndrome should be considered another co-morbidity that improves and is cured after gastric bypass surgery.

I love, love, love this book. As a nurse I am used to researching everything I get involved in and this book has answered the majority of my questions and concerns. This website has also helped me a great deal preparing for my surgery. I highly recommend anyone who is interested in bariatric surgery read this book.

So, I am stating the obvious, but for some people massive weight loss is an emotional roller coaster and can be very vulnerable feeling. I would not want to be swimming with the sharks in that headspace.... but again, maybe I just suck at online dating but it was unbelievably disappointing for me.
I started to actually think that i have a terrible personality which is weird after a lifetime of obesity when my vibrant personality and smile were the things people DID find attractive through all the fat. After sorting through the obvious liars, out of shape, no attraction type... a few times i found men I thought I would like to get to know. We would have a few dates and I would hear "there is no chemistry". I thought how strange - you want to see me often, have been telling me how beautiful, sexy, funny, charming, fun to talk to I am - and all of a sudden. no chemistry? Then it finally hit me - things weren't moving fast enough for them. what they meant to say, it has been 3-4 dates and no sex...ah ha, now I get it. Once I realized that I stopped doubting myself so much.
I would not have wanted to be so vulnerable to all that while in the middle of a major transformation. It was hard enough even after I feel so confident in my looks and weight etc now.

I am pre-op but asked my surgeon specific to this question. PCOS for 10+ years, blood SUGAR levels normal, however free blood INSULIN level generally from 55-75 and VERY insulin resistant even with metformin. He told me that most women with PCOS will normalize their insulin levels within a month or two of surgery AND that I can expect normal monthly cycles for the first time in my life..
