  1. Super excited for you as you start your journey! I was banded 7/6/14 and have lost a total of 95 lbs....I had all those same fears a day 101 questions, but as I adjusted to a new way of eating and living they quickly go away. If you follow the "rules", change your old habits, and truly learn from the experience about your negative eating habits you will have great sucess. I stayed in close contact with my surgeon for the first year and now I go every couple of months when I'm feeling too tight or too lose. It will take you a little while to learn your band and how your body responds, but give it time and I hope you have as much success as I have had!

  2. Hey everyone!!!!! It's getting exciting that most have had their bands and the rest is about too.... I was wondering for the ones that did have their bands what did u take to the hospital with you. I have an overnight stay and I was just seeing what you brought or would've brought. Thanks :-)

Congrats on your upcoming date! I'm 12 days post op and feel super! I'm hungry a little bit but nothing crazy and any initial pain or soreness is all gone! Easy peasy!!!

I didn't have to stay the night but I know while I was in recovery all the sounds and stuff going on around me were really annoying...I think it was the anesthesia wearing off that made me agitated. I would bring headphones for sure next time! Oh yeah and I'd bring something to wear home that it didn't matter if I wore a bra. When I left I looked at my husband and said I hope we don't run into someone we know...because the girls are hanging lose! I just couldn't move really well.to get it on.

I bet you are going to great like everyone else and I look forward to hearing how well you are doing in a couple days!!

  3. This is my second day after surgery and still having periodic gas pains/heartburn and it is very painful to bend over and touch the ground. It takes me about 30 -45 min to drink a 11 oz protien shake. Is this normal?

Why are you trying to bend over and touch the ground????? Stop it :)

I was banded last Tuesday so I am 4 days out. I have not switched back to my regular shakes yet because I thought they were a little to thick and scared me. I've been drinking Isopure carb free drinks and spread it throughout the day. Isopure also has a thinner shake and I split the serving into two and just do 6.oz at a time. I've been getting meeting my Protein goals each day with ease!!

  4. My surgery is July 14, 2014. I have been on the pre-op diet for 13 days but I cheated a little. The Protein shakes made me vomit. I drank carnation instant Breakfast 2x daily and ate a low-fat dinner like grilled chicken or salad but not everyday. Will this impede my surgery at all? I am really scared.

I cheated ....a lot on my preop diet and I felt the same as you probably do right now. I was so nervous that my surgeon would know or ask. ...or that I would wake up from surgery and have nothing done because I had messed up the preop. None of that happened...he didn't ask...and there were not any problems. at this point I would stick to the diet 100% and follow your surgeons recommendations to the t!! I'm not saying it's ok that you/I cheated but don't worry yourself too much. The great news is despite all of my preop cheating.... I've done really good post op! I'm really hungry but more terrified of puking up the food that I shouldn't eat so this time I'm following the Dr's reccomendations 100%! Congrats on your upcoming surgery!!

  5. On my 1 day clear liquid diet in preparation for the surgery tomorrow. Hospital just called to confirm. I'm so nervous and pensive and feeling like i'm on the precipice of something amazing!!

We're renting a recliner so I can sleep at night - cause if i sleep in my own bed my 3 year old will CERTAINLY jump on my stomach at night. And we just can't have it.

But seriously??? I'M. SO. HUNGRY. I. CAN'T. THINK. STRAIGHT. All this clear liquid is NOT cutting it. GOSH.

Very excited for you and it will all be worth it in the end! I had my surgery on tuesday and I'm feeling pretty great today...still hungry though. Get up and move around as soon as you can and it will help.speed things up! Good luck!!

  6. Great !! I just came yesterday from my surgery. So far great.Mostlymy shoulders were sore. Had my husband put Ben Gay on it. Took care of that problem.I am going into work today hopefully it will be ok.Good luck today.

Your are a tough cookie! I had mine placed yesterday and I can say I am not planning on heading into the office tomorrow !! I didn't / don't have the gas pains that many people experience but the soreness on my left side where the port is pretty rough. For the most part I'm just having a hard time getting in and out of bed or out of the recliner. I am really suprised at how good it feels once I am up to just walk around a bit. I didn't realize how swollen I would be on the outside. I have a pretty nice lump sticking out of my left side. All and all it hasn't been too bad! Anyone else notice that absolutely every single commercial on TV is about food? ???? Geeeeeze!! Thank goodness for dvr!

  7. @@newme62633 Thats very exciting for you! Let us know how it goes!

I was really reluctant to tell people in the begining but, as it has gotten closer I have gotten more comfortable talking to people about my choice. I figured people would have their opinions and I was not really interested in it! I've gotten more confident in my response and my decision whihc has helped any negativity I have encountered. My aunt is the most critical of my decision becuase she has had a failed lap band her slef. However, she is also the very first person to tell me how to "cheat." I'm not so sure she followed the rules very well and that is probablly why she had complications. I still politely say thanks and assure her that I have done my research and this is the best decision for me!

  8. @@Aliciafl2014 I do the shakes 4-5 times per day...and really it's more like 3 times a day! At first I was coutning down the hours until I could have my next shake and now I am having a hard time getting through them. If and when you do have to go on the pre-op shakes I would reccomend variety! I made the mistake of just getting the chocolate. I new I didnt mind the taste and it was safe. It's getting old now. chocolate shakes and chicken broth..whith some cyrstal lite in between!

You should call the Drs office and ask what your pre op diet will be like so you can start preparing now!

  9. I have my surgery on July 10th...I have 2 weeks preop diet but it is 2 shakes and 1 small meal a day. Everyone is right it is much easier during the work week. Today is particularly hard but I am holding on.

I've been catching up on all my sleep, cleaning, an HBO has a free preview this weekend. I've never looked forward to Monday so much! I'm going to go online and look at all the great clothes I can purchase when I finally start loosing the real weight! Maybe plan a vacation where I won't be more worried about what I'll wear than having fun! Got to keep busy !!!!

  10. My surgery date is July 8th but my doc has me on a 5 day diet I start July 1st on all liquids and then on July 6th I go to Clear Liquids. But They told me I was to drink 5-6 Protein shakes a day while on the all liquid diet. Can anybody tell me what is a good Protein Powder to use or Protein shake .

My surgeon requires me to use Bariatric Advantage and I have to do 4-5 shakes per day. I have been having trouble getting the 4th shake down. Its tolerable. 2x per day I can mix it with a cup of skim milk which makes it taste a little bit better! Whatever you choose just make sure it has high protein and low carbs. Good luck!

  11. Hi everyone I made through my first day of my liquid diet. I'm glad four of us are getting banded together. I started the gym yesterday, i did 30 min on the bike 20 min elliptical. I'm trying to stay busy go to be early. Thanks for you advise

That is great! I am on day 4 and so far so good...Hang in there and take this opportunity to listen to your body tell you when your body is hungry vs just wanting to eat! I've learned so much in just 4 days. I can definitely see that what I usually identify as hunger is more about me just wanting to put something in my mouth. I would love to get to the bottom of why it's the worst at the end of the day!

  12. Thats my plan as well. I figured if I can keep busy, like I am at work, then maybe it wont be so bad. I've gone to bed super early the past two nights which is also making me feel better in the AM. I figured if I'm asleep I can't eat! Ha! Have you been doing any excercise up until this point? I wish I could say yes...but I have not! I know I need to add it in.

  13. Hello! My surgery is also July 8th.... seems to be a popular date! I'm on day three of the liquid diet and like you Fhawkins...the evenings are so tough! Something is happening at the end of my days that are making me want to stuff my face with anything and everything that is around me! I'm not really feeling hungry, but rather am just looking for some variety and the taste. Even though it has only been three days, it is interesting for me to see how automatic my eating is even if I truley do not need it! I think it is great that there are three of us here with the same surgery date and hopefully we can stick together and offer each other some support!
