  1. I was sleeved on 9/26. I had Type 2 diabetes and was taking Januvia. The surgeon said my blood sugar would go down in 3 - 4 days. It dropped after two days.... VERY happy. My co-morbidities, sleep apnea and fatty liver will disappear in 3 - 4 months post surgery.
  2. Looks like he did a great job! Congratulations!
  3. @@ChronicJam, I think it's plenty of time.

    Sleeved December 2

Yes, it sure is. It takes awhile for the swelling to go down.

    Dec 16th surgery date

I would make sure to check the total # of Protein grams of what you're eating and drinking. It should be between 60 & 80 grams. I use unjury Protein shakes + SILK unsweetened soymilk to boost the amount of protein in my diet.
  6. @@heynowkc, I got the ISOPURE at The Vitamin Shoppe.

    Help....please

I use a spreadsheet to log what I eat and drink. At the end of the day, my Protein grams (google protein + whatever you are eating) have to equal at least 60; my liquids have to equal at least 64oz. I don't drink anything with more than 5 calories/cup. I take BariatricAdvantage vitamins: 2 of their caramel Calcium citrate chewables (one in the morning; one at night), and a capsule, Ultra Multivitamin with Iron, which I take at lunch time. That is it!

Need to lose 14pds to get VSG date

I suggest getting a good tasting 100% Protein isolate Protein powder (for example, UNJURY), Torani or Da Vinci sugarless flavorings, sugarless puddings, FAGE sugar free low fat yogurt.... piece of cake. You can easily do this by Dec. 29th.
  9. Many people have trouble getting enough Protein and liquids the first week or so after surgery. I found the Isopure (40 grams pre bottle) drinks helpful because I could drink those and get my liquid and protein in at the same time.

    How do you eat after?!

The first few days, I needed to sip the Isopure (40 grams of Protein in a bottle) drinks very slowly, all day, or I didn't get in enough protein. After 4 days I was given the go ahead to eat whatever I could tolerate (advised me not to start with steak). As long as I took tiny bites and paused between each one, I could stop on a dime and stop eating before feeling overly full. It's also important not to eat and drink at the same meal. Wait at least 1/2 hour after eating before drinking.

When you're on the pre-op diet...

No. Just log the grams of Protein (should be 60 - 80/day) and the liquids, at least 64oz/day and take your Vitamins. That's it.

    Surgery on the 8th

You're having the sleeve, NOT bypass, which has more surgical connections. It's very safe.
  13. Just use the SEARCH function. I didn't need to get mentally ready... I already knew I was making the best decision to live a better longer life.
  14. @@alwaysvegas, it's so great that you did this before you crossed over into having diabetes!

    So discouraged -see pics

It sounds like you've already made up your mind. Get another doctor-- one that supports you. I had to. I'm very glad I did this.
  16. I was in my early 60s and was diagnosed with diabetes. I found out about the sleeve and did research. I found out that there was a scientific study that said that one is more likely to get rid of diabetes for good if you haven't had it for more than 4 years. I was having trouble keeping my blood sugar under control even with considerable effort and was coming up on having diabetes for 4 years. It was a no brainer for me.
  17. I don't mind sharing that I've had WLS, particularly with people that look like they are struggling with their weight. My primary care doctor didn't tell me about the sleeve (I didn't like the idea of bypass), and he pointedly discouraged me from having WLS. I got a new doctor as a result. I heard about the sleeve on "My 600lb. Life", researched it and decided this was doable. I'm very happy I made that choice. Maybe I can help others that have a health problem and want to be around longer for their own sake and/or that of their family.

    You look SO good!
  20. I just mixed some flax seeds in my eggs or whatever I was eating. If it continues, I would call your doctor.
  21. @Katcloudshepherd Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I've heard great reviews for Dr. Victor Gutierrez--- he was trained in Israel and specializes in microsurgery. I've heard the scarring is minimal. I might be checking him out after I lose all the weight.
  22. @dc0520 Hey, keep the faith girl! If you're under 40, your skin does bounce back better!

@@Ladiec2, I agree. Also, you may want to check out, if he doesn't or can't do the surgery, would your nutritional appointments still count, or would you have to start over?

You could use the time to get your head straight from the addictive thoughts. That would be necessary anyway for you to keep weight off long term. I recommend the book, "Emotional First Aid" (the bariatric one) by Cynthia Alexander.
