  1. Do they really still make patients drink that sticky, sweet, nasty syrup??!! I thought there was something different now. It even makes 'normal' people sick. I find it hard to believe they would still want you to do it that way when surly they must know your situation...I'd ask first, and then I don't think they would have enough influence over me to partake in something that would make me dump...just saying...
  2. I could not have had a better experience than I did...very little pain, no nausea or vomiting, no dumping and no foamies. I could have written the above post by Terry1118, just I am not finished losing yet. I know I will sail there! I am also type 1 diabetic, and high Col; BP; BS; all well under control now. This is by far the best thing I ever did for myself. (And here I thought the total hysterectomy and the total knee were the bomb!) 72 pounds since I started the pre-op diet June 1st, with surgery July 1st. My motto is 'You can do anything you want to; you just have to WANT to.' GO FOR IT!
  3. We diabetics are familiar with a product easily found in any drug store, its Glucose Tablets. Just a chewable little flavored wafer that has 45 carbs each and relives a low blood sugar. I usually carry 2 with me when I walk.
  4. Ok, another 'funny for others' tale. My husband and son, plus my sister were all there when I came out of recovery into my hospital room. I was of-course, nearly incoherent and in between mumbles, they thought it was great sport to ask me questions. They said "It's 3:00, where have you been?" I said, "Filming General Hospital." They said, "What can you eat?" I said "Sparkle gravy." They said, "Who is coming to see you?" I said, "Jon Bon Jovi, he is coming off tour to see me." How do I know? HUSBAND TOOK A VIDEO WITH HIS PHONE!
  5. I have the ok to use them from my NUT and the bariatric teaching nurse in our monthly seminar group. The only thing they say is the now we cannot absorb 42 grams of protein at a time, so half is enough either straight or in your water.

    Hello

My RNY was July 1st, and I am doing better than great! Minimal pain and no nausea right from the beginning, never hungry. Resumed most around the house things like laundry and cooking for the family, driving and getting out around the second week. Stab wounds healed nicely. I LOVE my Premier Protein shakes; and step away from my sugar free/ fat free puddings. Down 22 pounds since surgery day. I AM TRULY BLESSED.

    helppp

Only 2 weeks out, but a 1/4 cup of any kind of fat free " cream of " canned Soup in a mug with your choice flavor of low sodium broth, warmed slightly, satisfied me soooo much....
  9. Hi everyone, 9 days out on RNY and this topic of head hunger is fascinating. Yeah, its got a hold of me already too...but I have decided to figure a way around it that works for me. I am going to try to look at the world filled with food in the same way I look at other wishes in my life that I'm NOT getting. For example, Caribbean Cruises, fancy cars, big diamond rings, a front row seat at a Bon Jovi concert...you get the drift...BECAUSE: I already got my biggest wish!! My surgery. My second chance. SOOOOO, I take a deep, delicious inhaling smell of that grill, the baked goods, the popcorn; and enjoy that the best I can! Ain't goin' in the pouch anyway! And oh, yeah, no one said it was easy! But for me, it's doable for now...hey...where's my headphones????????

    Pre-surgery meltdown

My surgery is in 2 days (July 1st) and I must say, I'm not nervous or scared. At the very beginning of this journey, I said a prayer and asked God that if this is what He wants and this is what is best for me, THEN OPEN THE DOORS. Everything has fallen right into place. So, I have no reason to doubt that surgery will go fine. Also, I too have had a total hysterectomy and THAT was a difficult operation and recovery. I also am diabetic with several more health issues. Everyone is right. Before surgery, ask for something to calm you down. They know that's common. Best of luck to you.
  12. Well, I am looking forward to all of those things as posted above, but right now, being the summer temps here are always 90 and higher, I am REALLY looking forward to getting rid of this enormous, hot, miserable, twisted, tight, size 46DDD BRA!!!!
  13. I haven't had my RNY yet, (scheduled for July 1st). I am the cook and baker of the family and I have been thinking about what could happen (dumping) if I absentmindedly taste things while cooking...or worse...baking. I was thinking maybe a cheap box of ear-looped dust masks from the drug store might be the answer to prevent this. Any thoughts? Also, I was wondering if there is a card or bracelet indicating you are a WLS patient in case of emergency (for EMT's) or to show at eateries so maybe you can be charged less for a smaller portion. And lastly, don't you think your local gyms or YMCA's should offer WLS folks a discount? Just sayin.
  14. OH....I wasn't even thinking about staples! Sorry. My RNY will be done with dissolving sutures, but you are right that is a very important point. I have since found out that many surgeons do issue cards so WLS patients can pay less for smaller portions. Yay!
  15. Well, Roostertail2, I was concerned that in case of an emergency, things could get worse if EMT or any medical personal did not know, and lets say, pumped your stomach or gave you any thing that is going to make you vomit. Even dosages might be different. I worked 15 years in a major hospital, and I guess that is what made me think of it.
  16. Thanks for the comments, and terry1118, I am sorry to hear about your dumping episode. If it is anything like a bad diabetic reaction, I have a pretty good idea. I believe it will remain my deepest fear about this surgery. However, I guess it is also what helps keep us in check. =)

    no more "normal" food ever?

nasucat, I feel the same way. I'm soon to get my surgery date for RNY and the same thoughts invade me constantly. I HAVE to do this for my health; diabetic, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc. But it boggles the mind to think that you cannot eat anymore. Obviously, that's not entirely true. I'm just gonna throw this out there and say, maybe my problem is that I don't trust myself around food. I am a fabulous southern cook and baker. The Paula Deen of my family...so to speak. I don't want to feel left out...felt that enough in my life. While I'm not on the fence, I truly understand your concerns. Many nice people on here that are vets, so listen to what they say...I am.

    Don't hate on fluffy people

Oh how I love the word 'fluffy'... I see it like this...these women are just SO happy with themselves now, that the mirror side is how they hated themselves then. They probably did not mean any un-kindness toward you...BECAUSE...they are looking at you as one of THEM now, thinking that you think the same way; that you too will say the same kind of things when you get to goal. Almost a compliment, really.

For the love of sweet Jesus.....

REALLY!!?? You need to take a chill pill, Madam Reverie. This place is for everyone to learn, vent, talk and enjoy the camaraderie of all of us in this unique situation. Everyone else here is seems so happy to help others as they were once helped themselves. If you don't fit this 'mold' anymore, well...goodbye...

    Psych evaluation in the morning

Mine went well, I guess. She talked about the surgery some, and my weight, some. Mostly she talked about the stress in my life. A whole hour about bills, traffic, relationships and obligations and my siblings. Not too impressed. Gotta go back next week and fill out a 250 questionnaire to see if I am angry or depressed...(What??) I was thinking before I left the office, "And I missed General Hospital for this?"....

    Romantic Relationship-Secret Surgery-Bad Timing

Guess what. You can't control the world. You can only control YOU. I think you are going to be making a big mistake if you don't tell this "great guy". How could you ever have an intimate relationship if you cannot trust him? With a big secret or a little secret, it shouldn't be a secret between the two of you. I know, its still early in your relationship, but think about it, if things progress along, and he finds out your 'secret' at a later date, then it might destroy what you have built. How would you like to find out a 'big secret' too late of his? Cross dresser? A wife and kid? Child molester? If he takes a hike after you tell him, then surly, you will know he wasn't the ONE. Don't cut off your nose to spite your face.
