No worries you will be hydrated by IV. Aspirin is an irritant to the stomach. So it is understood that aspirin on an empty stomach would make you ill. Stop worrying. It will be ok. This is what we all have been planning for. You can do this! Rest tonight, the new you begins tomorrow

    Welcome

Hello everyone, thank you for inviting me. My surgery was April15, 2014. I had a 2 week liquid only diet in which I could have have Protein Shakes with either fruit or milk but not both at the same time. Sugar free Jello, and sugar free popsicles ( my savior). Day of Surgery: My initial check in time at the hospital 12:30, they did not take me into the back until 1:30, and I did not go in for surgery until 4:30. I remember entering the OR but nothing else until they woke me up in recovery at 7:30. I had my RNY and also cholocystecomy (gall bladder removered) The had trouble regulating my blood pressure (it was high during and post surgery, pre surgery it was low), So they gave me 2 doses of Labetolol, and then a dose of heparin which the next day started my unpredictable menstrual cycle. (ughh). At about 9 pm I asked my awesome (she really was) recovery nurse to please go and get my husband, I knew he must be beside himself with worry. ( he was). I finally got transferred to a room at 11:30 pm . I have 3 dermabonded ports, a JP drain and another drain 1 day Post op : slept ok, nothing by mouth until after Upper GI. Upper GI cleared at 11:30. 12:00 pm first meal: 1 sugar free popsicle, 12 oz G2 light (took me 24 hours to finish) and chicken broth( did not touch it first meal) It all just seemed like a lot of food. Walked 3 times. Catheter removed. Md says dont worry about Protein, worry about staying hydrated. 2 day post op: Walked 5 times. Took shower. Discharged home in the evening. Went through drive through and got meds. Went home and rested. Walked around home several times to keep activity up. 3 day post op: Walked around home, changed bandages on drains. drank half a cup of broth, 2 popsicles and G2 gatoraid. Bored, but easily fatigued. Sleeping in recliner since discharged home 4 day post op: Still gassy, but better at times. walked around block with hubby. 1/2 cup of strained creamed Soup, Water and gatoraid so far

    April 2014 Post-op

Hi ladies sorry that your hospital experience was so bad. My surgery was April 15. I spent 2 nights in the hospital on a surgical floor. It was actually relaxing. I couldn't have come home a day earlier. The pain was too great. I am still very sore on my left side ( i have 2 drains & 3 Ports), but this reclining sofa has been a good investment

    CAN'T DECIDE!

I was stuck between both surgeries too until my MD asked me if i have or have had indigestion, acid reflux or heart burn. Sleeve increases all those symptoms. I decided on the Rny Gastric Bypass. I am 3 days post op

well I'm now 24 hours post op . My surgery ran late because ths OR was running behind. Didnt get into recovery until about 7pm. Woke up in a lot of pain, but my doc gives his patients morphine PCA pumps. Got to a room about 11:00 p m. I have 2 drains and 3 ports. Tummy is numb. Pain is better. I am walking with less pain. I am currently laying on my hospital bed comfortably watching Forest Gump. Lol. The first 18 hours are rough but it does get better.

How did you find out you had GERD? I have had incidences of severe indigestion and heart burn. My doc asked me on my initial visit, if I had any incidence of reflux, heartburn, indigestion or gastritis. I told him yes and he said the sleeve has the tendency to increase these symptoms .

    April 2014 pre-op group

Good Morning ALL! Took the first pre- op shower yesterday, and have taken the second one this morning. Clear liquids only all day. The hospital is supposed to call today and give me the time I have to be there, but I think that I saw 11:00 on a paper somewhere in the doctors office. I am working today and I hope my stomach does not growl too much The hardest thing for me during my pre op diet is still cooking for my family and not being able to eat. Ughhh, that was rough, but also a view of the next few weeks. I am looking forward to not being hungry at some point. Some days were better than others where the hunger was concerned, but drinking something does normally help.

Good luck with everything. I'm having the bypass on the 21st. I week from tomorrow! I guess post op is kinda similar except for, in the long run, you'll still have to monitor your sugar. I don't think there's dumping with the sleeve. My surgery is April15. I too went into this process thinking sleeve, but my doctor changed my mind also due to GERD. Hope you have a safe surgery and a speedy recovery!

    New, Nervous, and Anxious

@@britleigh, They scheduled my surgery before I had my EGD. My EGD was already scheduled, and I had already fulfilled all my other requirement except my EGD so they submitted for final approval. My final approval came back before I had my EGD and I actually had my Pre Op visit the Tuesday before I had my EGD. FYI lemon is my favorite calcium chew. I absolutely hate the chocolate Peanut Butter.

I think it depends on your surgeon. Mine didn't have a preop weight loss requirement. I am on day 10 and have loss 5 percent.

    New, Nervous, and Anxious

Hi Britleigh, I am also at the Davis clinic. Dr Robert Davis is my Doc. Dr Primono did my EGD on last Friday. It was a piece of cake you don't remember any of it. They give you propaphol. My date is April 15. This liquid diet is killer. They will allow 1 protein bar as a replacement for one of the shakes. They will also give you recipes for protein shakes. you can use water or milk but the rule of thumb is if you add fruit no milk. you can have this much sugar free popsicles or jello as you like. it is very hard and I have cheated a couple of times but only thing I did do was eat something high in protein like a piece of grilled chicken breast, or piece of grilled fish. Don't know if that affects anything.
