  1. Hi, I have had both. I had a lapband 5 years ago but it slipped 18 months ago and embedded itself in my stomach. The lapband caused me soooo many problems plus all the constant fills and unfills I don't think there is much comparison. I would opt for the sleeve every time! Obviously this is due to my personal experience and I know others love the band. Good luck with whatever option you choose. Jess Xxxxx
  2. Hi, I had my op on 22nd April and have just under 40lb to lose. I had already lost lots of weight with a lapband but it had to be removed. Hoping the sleeve gives me the tool to get to the size I want to be. Good luck in your journey! Jess Xx
  3. Wow - you look amazing. Well done!

    Restless Legs?!

It can be caused by dehydration and a lack of salt. Try drinking more Water and see if it helps. My Mum has it and tonic water helps her - it's the quinine in it. Jess
  5. I am here at the hospital and am 2 hours away from the surgery. The nerves have kicked in now - it has just been excitement up until this point!! Looking forward to it being over. Jess Xx

    Why Band to Sleeve?

Hi, I was also banded in 2009 and got down to my goal weight. I had the band removed in July '13 as it slipped and when the removed it the found it had begun to embed in my stomach. I have chosen to have the sleeve as it is a lifelong tool without all the fills and unfills even though I am only around 25 lbs above my goal weight I knew that gradually my weight would have crept up. Let me know if you have any questions - I am self funded so can't answer anything on insurance. Jess Xx
  8. Hi, Thank you for all the good wishes. My surgery went well with no complications. I had a lap band removed 8 months ago so there was a risk that the scarring on my stomach may get in the way but my surgeon said the scarring was minimal so he was able to do a normal shape sleeve. I have all IV drips removed and am sipping Water and cups of tea. They even tried me with some consume but I could only manage a few spoonfuls. One more night in hospital then home tomorrow. Jess Xx
  9. Hi, Reading your post was like reading my story. I too thought I would be able to maintain my weight after the band was removed. Looking back I don't know why I thought that as I always struggled with hunger and carbs pre-band. The hunger returned day one after the band was removed! I have sleeve surgery on 22nd April and cannot wait! This time I will have a tool for life Jess Xx

    Port flipping, considering sleeve

I had my band removed in July '13 after having terrible issues from slippage. I am also having sleeve surgery on 22nd April -can't wait!!
  11. I have waited 9 months and gained around 35 lb. can't wait until 22nd April!
  12. I had the band 5 years ago and achieved my goal weight in a year. I was soooo happy with the band but after getting a stomach virus 2 years ago my band slipped, and I had massive problems with acid to the point where I was choking in my sleep and vomiting. After a time with total unfill I eventually had the band removed in July 2013. I tried to maintain the weight but have failed! I have sleeve surgery on 22nd April. I can't wait to get this lifelong tool without the hassle of fills and unfills etc. Jess

at goal weight band to sleeve

Hi Band07, Not sure if you can put it into words but.... What differences do you feel between the band and sleeve? I am a bit scared at the thought I might not lose weight with the sleeve! I am really hoping it will be a lifelong tool for me. Jess Xx

Anyone having the sleeve in april?!

It's almost April!! I have my surgery on 22nd April and can't wait. I have a few days off work for the Easter holidays for a few days leading up to my surgery and looking forward to spending quality time with the family - only my husband knows about my surgery. I am starting to buy everything I need for the hospital, just need some slip on pumps (saw the tip somewhere on this site) for slipping on to come home in. Eek - good luck everybody, looking forward to sharing our journeys Jess Xx

at goal weight band to sleeve

Hi, I had a band nearly 5 years ago and was successful at losing all the weight. I had a serious band slippage 18 months ago resulting in all the Fluid taken out and then having it removed nearly 12 months ago. Since then I have put on around 30lbs and my surgeon has agreed to a sleeve operation - it's on 22nd April. I haven't told my family - only my husband knows because I know they will not understand. I had my pre-op yesterday and the first comment from the nurse was "you don't need bariatric surgery you look fine" annoying!! I really made the band work for me but I am looking forward to a life long solution! Counting down the days now! Jess Xx
